GAY-FRIENDLY MOSQUE OPENS IN SOUTH AFRICA
Gays & Christians Attend. Men & Women Pray Together
--Attorney Patryk Utulu

A respected Islamic scholar, Professor Hargey, has opened a gay-friendly mosque in Cape Town South Africa where gays and Christians can attend and men and women sit together for prayers. He called it "Open Mosque."

Open Mosque founder, Professor Taj Hargey has received many death threats but is unafraid. He is a professor at Muslim Educational Centre of Oxford, UK. Cape Town's Muslim community is divided. Some criticize him fiercely but hundreds of thousands of Muslim women from around the world have been voicing support for him and donating money for him to build another branch of the Open Mosque. A group of Muslims who tried to block mosque entrance were dispersed by police and warned to stay away or be arrested.

Prof. Hargey has also started a campaign in the U.K. to ban face "burqa" as France has done. When asked about his qualifications as a religious leader he said: "I have a PhD in Islamic studies from Oxford University, unlike my opponents who went to some donkey college in Pakistan or Saudi Arabia."

Professor Hargey told the BBC and AFP News Agency that:
(1): Open Mosque is for open-minded people, not the closed-minded
(2): It is not against Islamic teaching for women to pray alongside men
(3): Open Mosque is set up to help counter growing Islamic radicalism
(4): Open Mosque welcomes all genders, religions & sexual orientations
(5): It is not against Islamic teaching for women to lead mosque prayers

Prof, Hargey told BBC that he wants "to revive the original mosque of the Prophet Muhammad, where there were no barriers." He challenged any Islamic leaders to show where the Prophet Muhammad ever excluded women.
He said that the reduction of Muslim women to inferior status of sitting in the back of mosques "were innovation that came after the death of the Prophet Muhammad."

Prof. Hargey has been receiving death threats to kill him or castrate or hang him upside down but he mocked them as "the desperation of men who understand that their days of absolute power are almost over." He said he will build Open Mosque #2 soon. South Africa has about 737,000 Muslims, or 1.5% of the population.

People MUST know that a story is a story. There's nothing anyone or group can do to stop a story from being told. You can hold a grudge or rant or riot: IT WON'T CHANGE ANYTHING. The world has changed forever. There are too many avenues to tell any story these days. In the past anger/riot may intimidate some people. NEVER AGAIN.

THESE DAYS PEOPLE WILL REPORT THE STORY AS WELL AS REPORT THE RIOT ABOUT THE STORY. Even if you riot in Nigeria about a story or topic you don't like a 13-year old child CAN still SPREAD THAT same story to 10 MILLION PEOPLE via Internet/SocialNet. In less than 24hours that story would reached 2 BILLION PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD. How many people can you riot against? So, instead of complaining or attempting to CENSURE topics through impotent anger, people had better learn how to get involved. Argue your side of the story. SUPPORT. OPPOSE. NEUTRALIZE. That's all YOU CAN DO in this modern world.

I respect Christianity. I respect Judaism. I respect Islam. RESPECT IS OK. CENSORSHIP IS NOT. Reporting a story is NOT an offense. The story must come out whether we like it or not. So, Join the argument. Don't sit on the sideline and grumble because no one in the world is listening anymore
