The importance of learning to human race cannot be quantified. Of the two basic means by which humans can gain
knowledge, which include experience and book, the latter is within the reach of both the old and the young.

Today, books are available in various formats including PDF,
docx, pub and audio formats.

In ascertaining how great a man will be in life, the people with
which he associates and the books he reads are great
determining factors.

Taking a cue from the life of Bray Bradbury, early in life, I
learnt that self education is the best and that great lessons of
life are never taught in the four walls of the classroom.
Besides, anyone can educate him or herself almost for free.

" Libraries raised me. I don't believe in colleges and
universities. I believe in libraries because most students don't
have any money. When I graduated from high school, it was
during the depression and we had no money. I couldn't go to
college, so I went to the library three days a week for 10
years." -Bray Bradbury

Bradbury wrote a thousand stories in return. He was one of
the most celebrated 20th-century American writers.

If you are one of those who are yet to cultivate the habit of
reading, here are some reasons why you should drop what you
are doing and pick up a book today .

1. Books widen your horizon
Books are effective tools to boost knowledge especially in
areas other than your primary field. During my undergraduate
days, two of the three General Studies Courses I offered were
African Culture & Civilization and Philosophy & Logic. I didn't
read these courses just because I wanted to pass
examinations, I studied to gain knowledge. I wanted to
acquire information in areas different from my discipline and
therefore read each book three times.

I did not only get an 'A' in both courses, I was equipped with
the understanding of African culture, how Africa was painted
before the advent of colonialism and the subsequent
civilization that has taken place. I also learned how logic
works and when my argument is flawed.

If you want to travel the length and breadth of the world,
learn culture of different tribes and a new language, all these
without spending a fortune, read books.

2. Can land you your 'dream' job
Books contains treasures that youths especially should learn
to uncover. In this age, employers of labour look out for
exceptional candidates who will add value to their
organization. Candidates who can distinguish themselves from
others through the self education they've equipped themselves
with.

Top on the list of job requirements by Human Resource
professionals is excellent communication skill. These and
other skills can be sharpened through good reading habits.

Job interview sessions are greater percentage of the time far
from what you read in college. They are intelligent quotient
questions acquired from lifelong self learning. HRs recognize
intelligent candidates when they come across them

3. Boosts your self Esteem
Equipped with knowledge in diverse fields and polished
communication skill gives you confidence to speak to anyone
irrespective of the person's position. This boosts your self
confidence which in turn raises your self esteem. A feeling of
boldness and courage naturally engulfs you. The secret is not
to read just books that everyone is reading, if you do, you can
only think what everyone else is thinking.

4. Leaders are Readers
One of the secrets of every great leader is that they are all
prolific readers. Abraham Lincoln had only one year of formal
education, yet he attributed his success to his reading
appetite. Rick Warren, author of 'The purpose driven life', read
a book each day for greater part of his life.

Thomas Jefferson, who doubles as the principal author of the
declaration of independence and the third president of the
United States donated what could be regarded as one of the
most exhaustive personal libraries of his time to the library of
Congress.

The message is simple, anyone who wants to be a great
leader must be a voracious reader.

It is never to late to start "building" your personal library if
you don't have one. While college can present to you a lot of
opportunities, it will be ridiculous to think it will give you an
education. There is never an end to education, so start
developing the human capital today.

It is chiefly through books that we enjoy intercourse with superior minds. In the best books, great men and women talk to us, give us their most precious thought, and pour their souls into ours. God be thanked for books. They are the voices of the distant and the dead, and make us heirs of the spiritual life of past ages. Books are true levelers. They give to all who faithfully use them, the society, the spiritual presence, of the best and greatest of our race.

You are very right, with books, there is no limit to what you can know. With books, you can have the best adventures you ever wished for.

It's not have much the book will cost that's the problem because you may say "how much does the book cost anyway?", but it is how much it will cost your life for not reading the book. --Jim Rohn.
