There was a Riot in Rivers state polytechnic Bori this morning as students prostested against the maltreatment of a final year Elect/elect student, Nsikak Effiong . It started when the 2013/2014 National Association of Akwa Ibom state students Election was about to be conducted, and everyone was asked to leave the hall (Except the eleco members) in order to start the election. The guy involved was one of the eleco members but was asked to go out also which he refused, according to him, he said he wanted to ensure dat the election was not rigged... A member of the eleco body then decided to invite the school security who on arrival started beating up the guy without asking questions, the guy got angry because of that and started fighting them. The security team then invited the C.S.O who then came with about 5 police men, when they arrived they started beating up the guy using rods, planks n gun... But the guy stood his ground, that he is not going anywhere... By that time he was already soaked with blood. But still he resisted them. The C.S.O had to call some ugly looking SARS guys, when they arrived, they talked to the guy n he decided to follow them. The insidence took place for about 4hrs before they finally took the guy.
Rumour started spreading this morning that the guy died in police cell because they refused to treat him so students started protested. when they got to school, they started destroying properties and when the C.S.O came out, the students pounced on him and beat the hell out of him while his security boys ran away... They dragged him with blood all over his body to Police station to confirm weda the guy was dead, when they got close to the station, police men started shooting teargas to scare the students away.. The D.P.O came out and told the students that the guy was still alive and took some students to go and see him inside cell.
when the students came back, they then matched back to school and started destroying properties and villagers joined them and started looting computer systems, flat screen tvs, generators and other electronics inside the school I.C.T lab.

It all started with the NAKISS election yesterday. This election has been postponed several times for lack of approval by Mr Emmanuel Deeyah, the embattled CSO of the Rivers State Polytechnic, Bori. He finally approved the election to hold on 1st of October 2014 (a national public holiday when all government institutions should be under lock and keys).

As usual, security personnel were on ground to maintain law and order and ensure a free and fair election.

On arrival to the election hall, there were rumours that some students of the association came for the election with fake ethnic receipts, so it was decided that all the students should leave the election hall (except the ELECO members who were to arrange the hall) and would be readmitted into the hall on display of their LGA I.D. letter.

Nsikan, who was an ELECO member entered the hall and Robinson, one of the security personnel and CSO's right hand man ordered him (Nsikan) to leave the hall. He (Nsikan) said he had the right to be in the hall being a member of the ELECO. Robinson resorted to pushing him out of the hall, but Nsikan stood his ground and wedged himself on a desk. The other security men came and joined in the struggle to push him out of the hall but they couldn't. One of the security men then put a call through to the CSO. On his arrival, he went straight to Nsikan and landed slaps on him and joined the others to push him out. In the process of the struggle, he (CSO) lost his pinky finger. He finally called on some policemen and reported the incident to them; they then came and joined in the beating of Nsikan who to this time hadn't left his spot, hadn't uttered a word and hadn't lifted a finger. All sort of weapons were used on him. Finally, CSO called on SARS to come into the situation. On their arrival, their commander approached him and he then stood up and followed him. As he was about to descend the stairs, beatings resumed. Nsikan stood His ground again and decided to hang onto the stairs. At that spot he was beaten until he collapsed with blood gushing from his nose and other parts of his body. It was at that point he was carried to Bori police station and locked up.

THIS WAS THE GENESIS OF THE PROBLEM

Its a good news because it shows nothing positive can come out without violence and force. The poor guy would have been left to die in cell without treatment and this is an innocent student going by op's story.
