This is a good development as Onitsha city is being developed into a mega city. All shopping/trading centers should be moved to the outskirts just like it's being implemented already by the OCHA brigade.

Williams Street Traders Forced To Relocate To Permanent Site In Anambra

traders were ejected to a permanent and standard market at Ogbunike in Oyi Local Government Area of the state.

Some of the traders who were victims, decried government’s action. They stressed that it was illegal as the relocation case is still in court.

While others, who have relocated wondered why their colleagues would prefer to be paying huge rent when a standard market built with their contributing fund had been allocated to them.

The traders had been asked to move to the new site since 2009 and in spite of all efforts by the previous administration, most of them remained adamant leading to the application of force by the current administration that have, in its administrative policy, decongested and beautified of the state.

The Managing Director and Superintend General, Operation Clean and Healthy, Mr Kenneth Okonkwo, whose duty is to maintain clean environment cleared the air on the event of application of force on the traders, citing unkempt and dirty environment as the major cause.

Mr Okonkwo maintained that the brigade never broke into any shop but ensured that every shop opened has the owner on standby to evacuate his or her goods.

The new market, though looking abandoned, has every facility of a standard market in addition to enough space for parking of vehicles.

The shops were built with money contributed by the traders and the government which can accommodate over five thousand traders presently.

This is working, there is almost zero crime incidence in Anambra. This has pushed up more investors to the state. I think FG has a lot to learn from Anambra not just the security measures.

Buhari hails Anambra govt. for demolishing kidnappers’ homes

President Muhammadu Buhari has praised the government of Anambra State for deciding to demolish houses and property used for kidnapping purposes.

Mr. Buhari, speaking at the meeting with Nigerians in Diaspora in the United States of America on Wednesday, commended the actions taken by the states to tackle the spate of kidnapping in Nigeria.

In 2014, following orders from the state governor, Willie Obiano, Anambra State demolished various properties owned or used by kidnappers.
In May 2014 alone, a joint task force set up by Mr. Obiano demolished three houses belonging to some dreaded kidnappers in the state.
The houses demolished included a bungalow valued at N17 million, officials had said. The three houses demolished that month were all situated at Aguleri, Anambra East local government area under the supervision of the governor’s joint task force.

The job of the task force did not stop there, they have since continued to demolish other houses used for kidnapping purposes in the state.
Recently, in July, the police in the state demolished two properties used by some kidnappers in Umueri, Anambra East Local Government Area of the state.

bruh, I beg to differ. Just last week I was at onitsha (yes I was, I uploaded pictures on this thread) a group of stick carry hooligans tried to extort money from the Okada dat I was on. They just dashed into the road, held my moving Okada almost falling us. Thank God for the Okada man that balanced his Okada.

If these malls follow the growth story of SABmiller in the East, we could have 6 of these malls in the next 10 years rising to 20 malls by 2020

Thats what consumer culture can do for you.

1st of all I learnt the malls are Government owned unlike the ones built by Shoprite and other foreigners in other States like Imo and Delta. 2ndly I see no difference between Ariaria, Main market and Shopping mall other than condusive shopping environment. Anambra State can lease the spaces to Nigerians of various specialisation. For example instead of KFC we can have Crunchies as one of the fast food outlets in the mall. Mr Price or Max can be "Okey bros" . That way we create our own brands.

In fact I believe the future of our trade lies in creating more condusive trading environment and not waiting for Lebanese to take advantage of that space.
