Should its petition at the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal fails,
the State of Osun chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has
concluded plans to unleash unprecedented mayhem that may warrant
the declaration of a state of emergency by President Goodluck Jonathan.
According to insider sources
within the party hierarchy in the
state, at a recent meeting held at
the residence of a party chieftain
in Osogbo, the state capital, it
was resolved that if the party is
to have any appreciable showing
at the 2015 general elections, the
All Progressives Congress (APC)
currently at the helms of affairs
in the state must be dislodged at
whatever cost.
The source further stressed that the PDP chieftains at the meeting
further reached an accord on the need for each and everyone at the
meeting to put to good use all their connections and influence to see to
the fruition of their plan.
At the meeting, one of the chieftains was quoted to have expressed his
hatred for the incumbent governor of the state, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola,
to the extent of even suggesting his total elimination by spiritual means.
He was said to have promised to get across to his spiritual consultant in
faraway Gambia, who in his calculation, should be able to cast a spell on
the governor to terminate his life.
A new twist was however, introduced into the whole argument when he
was asked on why he did not suggest that to the party ahead of the
August 9, 2014 governorship election held in the state.
The party chieftain was said to have stuttered in his response, but
eventually came up to say he never knew the party could end up being
the petitioner, as they had earlier been assured that the election would
be a mere formality, as the power that be in Abuja and the presidency
had put a plan in place to announce the result in favour of the party
candidate, Senator Iyiola Omisore, irrespective of the people’s wish.
Other options considered at the meeting were compromising the
members of the tribunal to give ruling in favour of Omisore and
possibly going for the broke by opting for total breakdown of law and
order to make the state ungovernable for the governor and the APC.
The latter option was said to have gained the support of virtually all in
attendance at the meeting with suggestions coming from all directions
on how best to have the plan executed without any excuse for failure.
Roles were thereafter shared out to various individuals, with the sole
aim of giving teeth to the plan.
The source further revealed that a particular notorious chieftain of the
party was assigned the role of rail-roading the presidency into the plan,
with the aim of providing necessary logistics for the plan to succeed.
The said chieftain was said to have promised on the grave of his mother
to have Governor Aregbesola removed, while boasting of his past
exploits in getting things done with the help of his cronies at the
presidency.
A prominent notorious political thug was also considered for the role of
having his men positioned in strategic cities, towns and villages across
the state to foment trouble simultaneously with the use of explosive
devices to create the impression that the state was at war.
Some of the security operatives brought into the state during the
gubernatorial election have also been pencilled down for roles in the
plans, as they would be saddled with the responsibility of arresting all
APC leaders once the mayhem starts by labelling them the perpetrators
of the crisis.
It was in their calculation that once the mayhem starts with the backing
of the presidency, the president would have no option but to declare a
state of emergency with an administrator deployed to replace the
governor.
