HONEYMOON IN PRISON
PART TWO
Omoyemi sat at the backseat with a passenger while Bimbo sat beside the driver. They were both afraid.
“Should I take you to a private hospital?” the driver asked them.
“Em—yes, em…er…no, just drop us at the garage over there,” Omoyemi said. She wasn’t herself anymore. Her heart was whispering the fact to her:
you are a murderer
“Nooo!” Omoyemi screamed suddenly as she thumped up from her deep thought. The passenger sitting beside her had just tapped her to call her attention to himself.
“Mrs Yemi, you are under arrest!” the man said.
“Under arrest?” Bimbo’s mother whispered. “What’s happening?”
The man began to laugh, as well as the taxi driver. Bimbo was shaking, filled with tears.
“This is sergeant Jato,” the young man said.
“And I am sergeant Dipo,” the driver said too. “You are charged with murder.”
“How!” Omoyemi shouted.
“You killed somebody, didn’t you?” the man beside Omoyemi said.
“I—I…how did you know?” Omoyemi said. She was already giving in.
“Before Yomi finally died, he called the police department and told us everything. Now we are driving you straight to the police station; from there, you would be charged to court and next, maybe Alagbon, or Kirikiri,” the driver said.
Omoyemi sighed.
“It was a case of attempted molest sir,” Omoyemi began to weep.
“Evidence,” sergeant Jato asked. “Why didn’t you give us a call while he was trying to force you?”
“I…I…”
Bimbo’s tears came down into her mouth. She licked the salty thing. Seemed she was used to such thing already since the past few months her father was arrested. Now she understood vividly that Yomi was dead. Bimbo pictured herself thrusting that knife she held into Yomi’s belly. If she had actually done that that day she was Molested, then she would have saved her mother from killing Yomi, because Yomi could have died by then, in her own hands instead.
“Please don’t take us to the police station,” Bimbo began to beg. She felt like telling them the news of how she was Molested by Yomi earlier, but she felt it was too early to do so. She would be ashamed all through her life if she shared it.
“No amount of pleading from murderers can stop the armed forces from performing their duty,’ they said. When they wouldn’t stop pleading for mercy, Jato pulled out a gun.
“This is pistol, I hope you know,” he said quietly. “If you dare utter anything more, you’re gone. So Phem!” He placed a finger across his mouth to make them keep silent.
Omoyemi’s world had shattered. Her brain could no more stay awake. She collapsed, right inside the taxi. Mr Jato rough-handled her until she regained consciousness.
Back in Yemi’s cell. He had begun to feel a great pain to his rib. He was feeling a sort of hurt right there. He remembered his family. He saw his wife lying dead when he closed his eyes. He saw his daughter shedding tears of blood.
“Nooooo!” Yemi screamed. He held the bars of the prison and shook it. “I want to get out of here!”
A female warder passed by. She stared at him for a while. It was Yemisi, one of those new warders under Yemi’s supervision few months back. She was still under training when Yemi was arrested.
“Criminal,” Yemisi whispered at last and passed on.
“Wh—what!” Yemi was shocked that she could call him such. Yemi had been very nice to her throughout the training period. He would even pay for her meal sometimes, just to create a sort of incentive for her for taking the risk to be a warder, being a lady.
“Did Yemisi just call me a criminal?” Yemi wondered.
Bimbo had wet her body with urine. Her school uniform had been soaked up. It was a Friday, so she had returned early from school. If it was other school days, perhaps she wouldn’t have gotten to see her mother when she returned, because she(her mother) would have fled the home before her return.
“We are already approaching our destiny,” sergeant Dipo said.
“Yes, just a hundred metre ahead,” sergeant Jato responded.
Omoyemi began to beg them again.
“Please, I beg you in the name of God who created you, don’t take us to the police station. Please! take us to somewhere else, please!”
“Somewhere else?” the two men began to laugh. The faces of the mother and child shone. They didn’t understand the reason for their laughter.
“I am not taking you to the police station before now, but to a place where…” Dipo paused. Jato slid the edge of his hand across his neck to pass the message to them that they were going to slaughter them like ram.
“Why?” they screamed.
“Because you killed somebody!” they said.
“Please don’t kill us!” Omoyemi shouted. The butt of Jato’s gun landed on her head. She collapsed.
Yemi’s head rang in the prison. It was as though someone had just thumped his head with a hammer.
“Oh my head!” he held it with both hands.

Omoyemi regained consciousness after a few minutes. Her eyes made everything around her go swirling. She had conditional whirlpool in

her head. Shockingly, a man was rushed in. It was Yomi. He was bleeding profusely. He was still alive.

"Unbelievable!" Omoyemi screamed. At least she now knew she hadn't murdered anyone yet. She was still in doubt whether Jato and the

purported Sergeant Dipo were policemen as they claimed. Her doubt was cleared when she saw Momoh and two of his men step in.

"You think you can run away?" Momoh said and pointed at her. "We are everywhere, that's what you should know. We are like a web that

any insect cannot be free from once it has stepped its feet in."

They began to wonder how everything was so perfectly planned such that Momoh's men came to the bus-stop at the nick of time to pick them up. How did they know? Bimbo and her mother wondered.

Momoh laughed into Omoyemi's ears and turned around to Bimbo as he squeezed her neck and threw her at the floor.

"You! Haven't you told your mother what your uncle did to you?"

Bimbo was dumbfounded when she heard it. She knew he was talking about the sexual harassment of his uncle which had robbed her of

her dignity. She was keeping it from her mother earlier, just to make sure that her mother wouldn't get more emotional injuries.

"Bimbo, w-what? What did he d-do to you?" Omoyemi asked in tears. She must have guessed what he did to her. She had sensed it earlier.

Momoh didn't allow her stay long in a pensive mood before breaking the sad news:

"So, your daughter didn't tell you how she enjoyed her uncle on bed," Momoh said, smiling. Omoyemi jittered and turned to her daughter.

"I w-was raped," Bimbo whispered. An outburst of tears followed.

"By that beast?" Omoyemi said, pointing angrily at Yomi. A slap rocked her neck from behind. She went down flat.

"You still have the gut to speak, abi?" Momoh shouted at her. Omoyemi held her neck in pain and shed tears.

Jato and Dipo laughed and said, "Oga Momoh, we did it perfectly, driving at breakneck speed to make sure we got to the bus-stop before

they depart. Pay us our fare and let's leave."

"Sincerely you guys did a good job there," Momoh said as he began to put his hands into his pockets. He settled them and they left,

promising to come again anything he alerted them of any dirty job.

One of Momoh's men stepped on Bimbo and made her a footmat.

"Oga Momoh, but this girl fine well o. Make we sample am one by one nah!" said the young man who just stepped on her.

"Shut up!" Momoh shouted at him. "Let her uncle keep doing it with her," he added.

"Nooo!" Omoyemi screamed.

"She has no choice!" Momoh said. He turned to Yomi and said, "Yomi, you have no wife, so we are giving you two wives now for free.

Polygamy for you Yomi! Enjoy them while they last. We will take you all back to your home now."

"Sir, why are you doing this to us?" Bimbo asked audaciously.

"Because you deserve it," Momoh said. "You wanted to kill one of our men--Yomi. Ha! ha! ha!" he laughed.

Yomi could have died by the blow, but he was quick to get his phone and put a call through to Momoh who quickly arranged for some men

to block them on their way. They fell headlong and here they are.

If Momoh and his men hadn't attended to Yomi to give him first-aid treatment, he would have passed on.

Momoh didn't hestitate. He drove them all back to their houses and put Yomi in care of Omoyemi and her daughter.

"Take care of him, okay?He is our egg and If anything happens to him, then forget Yemi who's like an egg in our hands too. Give Yomi

whatever he wants until he is okay. Two of my men would come over here to live with you as from today."

Tears flowed down the cheeks of mother and child as they stood face to face with their enemy, Yomi, the greatest traitor on earth as he

appeared to be to them.

He isn't a Nigerian.
Infact he was born WITHOUT A SILVER SPOON.

But to mark his birthday, more than 2 Thousand Years After His Death,
We have to go to such extent we wouldn't go for the richest man in the world.

His Birthday Is Worth Celebrating,,
Because He Led a Selfless Life.

He died for you and me, despite the fact that we are NIGERIANS.

In Nigeria,

At least two chickens per family will lose their lives today.
At least 68 million chickens will end in soup today
At least 34 million knives will be put to use today
At least 136 million litres of blood will flow today (Chicken blood)

Continuation...

Yemi watched as Yetunde’s tears poured down. It was something unimaginable; crying for what reason? Is Yetunde affected by his imprisonment in any way?” Yemi thought.
Yemi could not hold himself anymore. The curiosity was more than what he could bear. He burst out asking, “Yetunde! What is happening?” Surprisingly, Yetunde appeared before the iron bars again and shouted, “Never in your life should you call my name, you criminal!”
“What have I done to you, Yetunde?”
“Shut up!” she screamed at him and pointed at his face. “Mind you, indeed the DPO is feeding me with all the information about you—how you met the AIG, pleading not guilty before him and so on…”
“So… the DPO is feeding you with information!” Yemi’s face expanded at her revelation.
“Why won’t he?” Yetunde bawled. The next moment, her eyes were bringing those tears again such that she had to bury her face in her palms.
Yemi was overwhelmed with suspense as he sat on the bare floor and gave his head a hard knock.
“The Assistant Inspector General of Police must hear this,” Yemi threatened.
“You will be surprised,” she said. “In fact, you will die in few days.”
“I don’t care!” Yemi screamed like a mad man. “Death at this moment is now better to me than life.” Yemi held the gate with his hands and shook it violently. Yemisi began to laugh.
“Silly man, says he is moral, yet he can’t allow the gate to remain in peace. Even your moral counterpart, Aluko, is also currently getting his own fair share of your evil plots. Wicked hypocrite!” she screamed.
Yemisi’s words cut a deep incision into Yemi’s heart. A tiny droplet of tears fell off his face as he said, “I haven’t done anything immoral.”
“Keep quiet!” she bawled. “I wish you are dead in the cell!”
She left hurriedly.

Benson's heart pounded rapidly. He bulged his wide eyes to prevent tears from pouring down further, but when that would not do, he placed his dark eye glass on his face and looked like a man again.

"I will do it," Benson agreed eventually. He clicked his teeth continuously. He had Bored earlier to stop killing, immediately after shooting his fiancee back then. Although rumour had it that she didn't die in the process, yet Benson found it hard to forgive himself.

Tunji turned to the other three men and screamed, "Get them done now!"

** ** ** ** ** **

""Get me out of here! " Yemi wouldn't stop screaming as if he was possessed with demon. He pulled hard at the cell gate, disturbing Yetunde the rude warder. She came close and screamed at him:

" Are you mad Yemi? Why have you chosen to disturb the peace here? "

" I want to see the AIG! " Yemi kept screaming.

" Of course you will... you will see him tomorrow, but bet me, you'll be dead."

"Shut up! " Yemi yelled back at her. She was speechless as she withdrew. When she returned, she had a bowl of water with her.

Momoh’s new men came to Tunji’s place to see him.
“You have to be very careful,” Tunji warned the band of killers Momoh had just hired.
“We shall be,” they replied excitedly.
“Listen all of you, I am Mr. Tunji, a pretending governorship aspirant, waiting to do it under the aegis of the Friendship Party. But only one man can hinder me as soon as he is alive.”
“Who’s that, let’s go and hack him down?” said one man whose voice was made rough with the influence of Indian hemp.
“Mr. Yemi, the warder,” Tunji declared. “You must have heard of him before.”
“Yes!” they said. “Is he not that warder who set that Deinde criminal free?”
“Yes,” Momoh spoke. “He’s exactly the reason why I bring you here!”
“Oga, give us the work. We will kill him!” said one of the killers.
“But he’s in the prison,” Tunji said.
“Whether he’s in the rat hole or in the Lion’s den, we will get him there oga. Just…tell us business…”
Tunji gained much confidence with the way they were communicating with him. Only one of them wasn’t talking at all. Tunji was surprised about that. Tunji ignored the silent one and kept talking.
“So, what are your names?” he asked.
Momoh stepped forward to do the introduction:
“To my left here is Snakemaster, who knows how to use poison to kill. Here to my right is TeejayBobo, a knife specialist and there is…”
“Benson,” the quiet one spoke for himself. It seemed he was absent-minded all through.
“Good!” Tunji said. “See, if you can do this job perfectly and I win the election, I will make you all my commissioners.”
“Just like that?” the killers exclaimed in ecstasy. It was beyond their imagination.
Tunji and Momoh took time to explain the location of Yemi’s ward to the killers. However, they assured the two politicians that they would not just go to the cell directly but would also get the map of the structures of the whole prison.
“The Chief Prison Warden office has the map, we will get it from there,” said Snakemaster.
“We will kill that fool!” Teejay assured.
“Bring him alive if possible,” said Tunji. “I will believe it more if you bring him and I see him with my two eyes because seeing is believing. I will cut off his neck myself. But if you can’t bring him alive, just kill him and…”
Benson suddenly asked, “But why should you kill him at all?”
Tunji rose up and faced Benson squarely with an audacious face.
”What rubbish are you saying?” he said. “You mean I should let Yemi live and ruin my political ambition?”
“That’s not what I mean sir,” Benson said. “I’m thinking maybe you should simply let that innocent warder fly out of the country with his family instead of killing them.”
“Shut up!” Snake Master yelled at Benson.
“Wetin dey do you sef?” Teejay also yelled at him.
Tunji turned and moved in circles. He returned and put his lips close to Benson’s ear and said, “You can leave—now.”
“But why sir?” he asked, surprised.
“You don’t have the mind to kill,” Tunji told him.
“I have the mind sir,” Benson said. “I can do it.”
“You can’t!”
“I can sir—try me,” Benson said. “I only brought up that suggestion because I thought that was the best way, but sir—I’m very very wrong.
Tunji released a grin.
“Alright then, Killer Benson, I have another mission for you.”
“Another mission? Me alone?”
“Yes of course!” he said. “You won’t go with them to take that warder away, but you will go for another killjob.”
Benson was looking sober. It seemed he didn’t want to kill.
“Have this picture,” Tunji gave him a picture. “Can you see the girl inside it? You will kill her for half a million!”
“Half a million?” Benson exclaimed. He hadn’t earned as much as that before, but when he stared into the photograph with him, he lost his joy.
Benson did as if to return the picture when his eyes made an eye contact with the image of the girl in it.
“I can’t do this,” Benson bared up his mind.
“Why? You don’t kill girls?”
“Y-yes I—I don’t,” Benson managed to say.
“Shut up!” Snake Master attacked him. “Is it not last two weeks you just killed your girlfriend?”
Benson maintained a perfect silent when he heard that. Soberly, he seemed to be reflecting on the memory; how he had shut his girlfriend whom he saw on bed with another man while he was on an armed robbery operation.
Benson’s sweat fell on the photograph of the innocent girl he was asked to kill...

Without hesitating, Yetunde emptied the water at his face.
"What!" Yemi screamed. "What is this mess? Are you treating me like a prisoner?"
"That's who you are, wicked man!" she began to weep again. "I wish you could be dead tonight!" she emptied the dirty content of her mind and left without saying more.
Yemi took pity on himself. He felt he should be calmer, else he would run mad.

The face of 'the other Yemi' suddenly set on her husband's face. Yemi shed tears again. It has been a while he saw his wife and his daughter last. He wasn't even sure if he would see them again.

"How is Bimbo feeling right now?" Yemi thought. "And innocently, she would be rendered fatherless. Who will then fill the vacuum of fatherhood in her life--no one?"

A gecko was preying on an insect. Yemi's full attention was on the struggle between the gecko and the large insect--a praying mantis.

If a praying mantis can't be set free despite its prayers, who am I to get freedom? Yemi thought childishly.
When the gecko swallowed the insect, he said, "So, this is how the law will swallow me."

Yemi was far asleep when Yetunde came with two men. She silently began to unlock the prison door. Yemi was scared when he saw the two strange people behind her. He feared that Yetunde was releasing him to them to be killed.

"Yetunde, what are you doing?" Yemi spoke edgily. She didn't give a response. She kept fiddling with the padlock. At last she was successful.

"What are you doing Yetunde? Are you releasing me to them to be killed?" he exclaimed.

"Shut up!" one of the men shouted at him and pointed a gun at his head. Yemi feared.

When Yetunde had fully opened the gate, the men beamed their torches on a long thick paper and traced a sketch made in it with their fingers.

"This is the way," one of them said. They were fully at alert as they turned towards that way, leading Yemi away.

Yemi had reconciled the whole scenario--a map; the prison map--it was kept in the Chief Prison Warden's office for ages. How did they get it? Simple! He must have given it to them. Yes! He really has a hand in the whole thing! Yemi reassured himself.

The two kidnappers wanted to ply a secret way found in the map, but they ran out of luck as they were surrounded by the wawares. There was a gun duel.

Teejay Bobo hit a warder with bullet and he died instantly. With fierce anger, the rest of the warders faced him and finished him off with unending release of fire on him. He gave up the ghost. Snakemaster didn't find a way out too as he was shot. Yemi too was shot on the leg, yet he had put up his two hands to show his surrender earlier.

Momoh picked up the information that the operation was futile. Tunji was paralysed with fear when he heard it. He was fed up. Immediately, he pointed a gun at Momoh and shouted, "Why? Why did you bring those incompetent...?"

"But they have experience!" Momoh debunked.

"Shut up!" Tunji screamed as he touched Momoh's nostril with the tip of the gun. "Doyou realise how much I gave them upfront? Now they failed woefully. At least they should have shot Yemi dead before they were shot dead themselves!"

Tunji was not concerned with the fact that the people he sent were killed. All that bothered him was that Yemi was yet alive. He bit his tongue and gritted his teeth in wrath. There was no way he would make his political ambition known while Yemi is still alive.

"I...er..." Momoh was out of words. "I promise to g-get rid of him my-myself. I promise to d-do it once and...and for all."

"Do it!" Tunji shouted. "If you can't do it alone, do it with Gbagi!"

"I will kill Yemi sir...just trust me," Momoh assured desperately.

"How do I believe you?" Tunji doubted.

"Same way I went for Deinde and got same, same way I will..."

The door parted ways immediately. The two hearts of the two heartless men skipped a beat. Gbagi walked in. They sighed.

"Yes...Gbagi, you are not a bastard!" Tunji said.

"How?" Gbagi asked. He was only there to blackmail Momoh. He was not interested in Yemi's case anymore. All he wanted was to get some money and go abroad to never return. He had gotten over #700,000 from Momoh earlier, all in the name of keeping his secret--the secret of Deinde's existence.

"Gbagi, you have to get ready to break through Alagbon Maximum Prison," Tunji said as if it was darn easy. "Get in there and kill Yemi, the warder once and for all. The game should have been over by now!"

"Alright sir," Gbagi said. "But oga, what will be my gain?"

"Name it Gbagi! You will be my commissioner if I won the upcoming election."

Gbagi laughed.

"Sir, you know quite well that it isn't possible. I am a wanted criminal, ex-convict. Are you sure you want to make an ex-convict your commissioner?"

Tunji smiled.

"Are most of us not worse than you are Gbagi? Don't deceive yourself, our hands are not clean, just as yours. Politics is a dirty game and those who play it are not clean, just as you are. Leave everything to me, Gbagi. Just get set to launch an attack at Yemi. Momoh will go with you. Infact, both of you should leave now..."

"But..." Momoh was trying to say something.
"Just...leave! LEAVE!" Tunji pushed them out and leaned against the door as he sighed. A bang was heard at the door. It's like Momoh was trying to come back inside, but no way.

*** *** ***

Yomi had fully recovered from his injuries and was back to his business. He wanted to have sex with Bimbo again, but she gave a strong resistance as she ran to her mother. Omoyemi, Bimbo's mother, was furious. She shouted at him and called him names.

"Agba Iya osi!" Omoyemi cried and wept. Yomi laughed.

Two of Momoh's men were permanently stationed in the house to oversee things from their. They were there to instil fear in the mother and her child and to monitor their moves.

Omoyemi had become a 'skeleton' of herself, since she was leaner than a shadow. Her eyes had shrunken and her jaws had taken the look of a 70-year old. She was fast getting old facially.

Yomi was definitely having the best time of his life with his evils. He would brandish his animal-like teeth and mock Omoyemi. On two occasions too, he had tried to force her to bed too, but she forced her way out.

"Life is sweet to eat," Yomi would sing. He had taken the full control of his younger brother's house and entire property.

Yomi was dissatisfied with Omoyemi for denying him sex with Bimbo or herself. He decided to teach her a lesson of her life. He asked the two bad guys to tie her to a chair while he molested her daughter. He had his way eventually this time, leaving Bimbo in a pool of blood.

Tunji and Gbagi, the cat and dog, lodged in a hotel. They needed to strategize on how to have a successful outing. They had to make plans, but contrary to this, Gbagi was speaking out of context.

"Momoh, why do you think I come to the den to meet you earlier?"

"I don't know," Momoh said.

"I was there to get #500,000 from you to travel out of this country."

"You must be joking, Gbagi," Momoh said in disbelief.

"Joking about travelling out or what?"

"Joking about coming for #500,000," Momoh made it clear. "Do you know how much I have given you before now? I have given you about #700k and here you are, still blackmailing me, huh."

Gbagi laughed.

"Em...you see, Momoh. You have to pay me the #500,000 or else Mr.Tunji will lose his trust in you."

"Why?"

"I will tell him that Deinde is still alive," he said pointblank.

Momoh gaped and gasped for breath. He hated hearing such statement so much. He felt everything could end once and for all. Swiftly, he pulled out his gun. He wasn't faster than Gbagi who had pulled out his too.

"Huh, huh, smart boy," Momoh said as he moved around Gbagi.

"Momoh, just give me the money and I will go out of your way finally. If Mr. Tunji asked of me, you can tell him I am dead, I don't care!"

For three minutes, they walked in circle close to each other with the guns pointed at each other. It reminded Gbagi of his encounter with Deinde that day.

Momoh knew it wouldn't just work. He had to come up with another idea on time, to save time.

"Okay, Gbagi you win. I will pay you the #500,000 but let us do the operation first," Momoh assured. Gbagi smiled in disbelief.

"How do you want me to trust you on this?" Gbagi asked, still pointing the gun at his face. Momoh lowered the gun, but Gbagi wasn't ready to do the same. He came straight for Momoh and pushed his gun into his head.

"Eh, Gbagi, you have to just learn to trust..."

"Who? You? How can I ever trust you?" Gbagi questioned ridiculously. "Were you not the one who sent thieves to strike and still called the farm owner after him? Or you think I am ignorant of how you set Deinde up? You set Deinde after Mr Smith and then set policemen after Deinde himself; isn't that the cause of all these unrest?

Momoh grinned. Gbagi looked at him in a strange manner.

"Gbagi, don't be so ridiculous," Momoh said as if he had no fear at all. "You should know that that's part of the game."

"And what is the assurance that you guys won't rope me in too?" Gbagi said concernedly. "After this mission, next thing for you is to terminate my life as you did to those policemen who arrested Deinde, isn't it?"

Momoh took time explaining to Gbagi that he was not in the list of those they would execute. Gbagi eventually accepted.

"But Momoh, I must get the #500,000 I asked for, else..."

"Else you will tell Mr. Tunji that Deinde is alive, isn't it?"

"Yes...exactly," Gbagi said as he lowered his gun eventually.

Momoh knew it was a golden opportunity to get rid of Gbagi once and for all. They had spent the rest of the day in the hotel chatting, but now Gbagi was asleep. Momoh gazed at the long pillow on the bed, just below Gbagi's head. He was going to place it right over his nose and suffocate him.

Momoh tried to pull it out of his head, but Gbagi held tight to it.
Momoh had to look for alternative. He didn't want to get Gbagi awake. He stared at his gun, but it was out of option. Using the gun would attract attention, he thought.

Momoh had to take chances. He would use it anyway. Momoh picked his gun and held on to its haft. He was going to pull the trigger and end Gbagi's miserable life once and for all. HE PULLED THE TRIGGER!
*** *** ***

Tunji had been waiting all day for the return of Benson, the man who was sent to murder Desola, Deinde's younger sister. He had just one reward for Benson if he returned--death. Mr. Tunji was fully prepared to kill Benson if only he returned for his balance.

"Where is that coward killer?" Tunji said in whispers. He was alone in the house.

Some kind of strange feeling crept into Tunji's mind. He began to perceive that Benson didn't perform the duty.

"That man dare not mess around with me!" Tunji said firmly. He put the hollow end of his gun beside his nostril and drew in a deep breath.
*** *** ***

Momoh was shocked when no bullet came out of the gun he had just triggered. Gbagi heard a clicking sound and his eyes flashed open immediately.

"Ha!" he screamed when he saw the gun with Momoh. If he hadn't secretly gotten rid of the bullets in the guns before he sleep two hours ago, he would have been shot dead by Momoh. Gbagi raised his head immediately from the pillow but Momoh had pounced on him. It was Momoh's last chance to get rid of him and he would make use of the opportunity judiciously.

Momoh pressed Gbagi's neck against the iron edge of the bed. He was going to squeeze life out of it. Gbagi shook and sent a punch into the air, but Momoh evaded it, still squeezing Gbagi's neck firmly. The breathing was hard to do. Gbagi writhed in pain and eventually yielded. Momoh was not ready to leave him yet. He pressed further. Eventually he left him, lifeless, when a considerable amount of foam had poured out of his mouth.

"Yes!" Momoh yelled and sighed. "Easy job."

Momoh didn't want to remain in the hotel that night. He began to work his way out.

"Hey waiter," Momoh called at the hall. "There's one little thing you need to see."

"Where?" the young man asked.

"Come with me." Momoh held the arm of the waiter and led him to the room. He pushed him in suddenly and locked the door from the rear with a key.

"Fix it!" he screamed and began to leave the hotel.

"I must shoot this Benson right over his nose!" Tunji said, daydreaming. He was eager to kill. He roamed about in the large parlour like a policeman on a patrol mission. "That Benson is too weak, I shoudn't have sent him at all. His eyes, his face...he is too sissy."

Tunji began to feel that Benson had been arrested by the police, else he should have come for his balance of #300,000 long ago.

"Oh, Benson! Benson! Benson! You are a dead man! You must get a bullet on your head if I set my eyes on you..."

Benson heard him. He had been lingering at the door for quite some times now, so he heard it all. Fear had frozen him behind the door all the while. He was in trouble.

Benson shook like someone having the Parkinson's disease. He feared for his life. If only Benson knew that Tunji was the only one indoor, he would have entered in to attack him at once, but he thought that Momoh was with him.

Why did this man want to kill me? Benson wondered. He raised the picture of the innocent girl to his face--the picture of Deola whom he was sent to kill. He shook his head and turned round, leaving the place immediately, never to return anymore. He looked more like an innocent gentleman than a killer--Mr. Tunji was right afterall.

The waiter was shocked when he saw the foam in the mouth of the lifeless man on bed.

"Yee! Mo rogo!" he exclaimed in the yoruba dialect. "What am I doing here?"

The young boy dropped the food in the tray and rushed for the door to bang it open. His adrenal gland was at work, secreting much hormone.

Gbam! Gbam! Gbam! the boy gave the door some hard knocks as he wept aloud.

"Someone should open this door, please!" he screamed in tears. He turned his head around again and saw the guns on the floor. No one would exonerate him from this, he thought. He was a bird trapped in a cage.

"Who's there, please open this door!" he kept on screaming. Suddenly, he felt a grip on his shoulder. He froze when he saw the hand owner--Gbagi.

"Don't you want to keep me company this night, Jamiu?" Gbagi said with a smile.

"Ja-Jamiu is n-not my n-name sir...it--it is James sir."

"Ha! ha! ha!" Gbagi laughed. "James or Jamiu, what is the difference? Ha! Ha! Ha! That big fool thought I was dead. How did he easily fall for that foam I made from my mouth? Ha! Ha! Ha!" Gbagi laughed aloud again. Then he beckoned on James whose face was beaming with horror already:

"James, oya let's go to bed till tomorrow." He pulled the waiter close to himself as if he was his wife. Horror!

Momoh could not go to meet Tunji immediately. He had to cock out a story to tell him to calm the man down. Momoh smiled when an idea flashed through his mind. He now had a lie to tell Mr Tunji.

"Have you done it? Have you attacked the prison?" Tunji was quick to ask.

"Actually no, sir," Momoh replied reluctantly.

"Why not?"

"Because Yemi has just been transfered from Alagbon to Kirikiri sir."

"How do you know?" Tunji said.

"Gbagi bribed his way into the prison sir; I was hiding at a corner, then eventually he came out and informed me that Yemi was no more there?"

"Are you sure of this? And where is Gbagi?" Tunji asked, showing much concern. Momoh was short of words, though he had thought it out earlier.

"Gbagi and I were given a hot chase and a bullet sank into his head from behind."

"Aah!" Tunji exclaimed. "Do you mean Gbagi is dead?"

"Exactly sir," Momoh said.

Mr. Tunji sat quietly. Eventually, he spoke:

"Well...that's not my headache, his life or death doesn't add any value to my life." Mr Tunji had just sounded inhumane. "So...Momoh it means you'll have to break into Kirikiri yourself, or is it not Kirikiri he was relocated to?"

"Yes it is, sir...but we don't need to bother," Momoh said with his face radiating a dirty smile, such kind that formed on his cheeks anytime he was going to tell a lie.

"Why not? Without Yemi's death, I can't campaign at all. The FP primary election is fast approaching. Yemi must not see a single poster of mine."

"So true sir," Momoh said. "Don't worry yourself because the warder is going to be hanged soon."

"Are you sure, Momoh?"

"Yes I am," he replied.

"And if he isn't hanged on time, Momoh, what will happen?"

"You can trust me," Momoh said. "I know how to hang people myself."

Tunji smiled. He had trust in Momoh who was an expert killer.

"Nobody knew that you are the killer of Mr. Aluko's wife, Momoh. You hanged her on the line like a wet cloth on the wire. Her blood dripped down like water from a wet cloth. Everyone thought Sade hanged herself..." Mr. Tunji paused and resumed, "Momoh, you are my personal person. I shall make you my deputy," he said with no tone of humour.

Momoh didn't believe his ears. It was beyond his ken that Tunji could say such thing.

"S-sir, don't flatter me at all," Momoh said seriously.

"I don't flatter people, you should know."

"But I didn't complete secondary school. I was a drop out."

"That doesn't matter, Momoh," he said. "Let me tell you this; the current governor didn't attend secondary school at all."

Momoh opened his mouth. He couldn't believe what he just heard.

"He didn't attend..."

"Secondary school," Tunji completed his speech.

Momoh asked Tunji how he knew that fact and the man took his time to tell him:

"I was the person who helped him to get the forged certificate he used. Not only secondary but also Bsc certificate."

Momoh was surprised that Tunji knew the governor that much before he was elected. He asked, "Sir, I thought you are just getting to know
the governor few months back. How come you are saying that you helped him procure the certificates eight years back?"

Tunji shook his head and swallowed his spittle. Then he confessed:

"Actually I know the current governor long ago before he was elected for first term. I was so close to him such that he promised to make me a commissioner if he won the governorship election. He didn't fulfill his promise eventually, instead he put his relatives into the posts available. When I challenged him, he told me that I was too young to hold any post. I begged him to give me a chance but he didn't listen to me, so I deflected to the Harmony Party."

Momoh was so much engrossed in the story that he forgot that the roofs of his mouth were ajar. He came to himself when a fly landed on his tongue. Reflexively, he spat it out.

"I'm sorry sir, a fly entered my mouth," Momoh apologized.

"I know," he said. "Next time you'll learn to shut your mouth when listening to stories. I'm going to bed," he announced.

Momoh was displeased. He wanted to get the whole gist--what led him back to the Friendship Party after leaving it eight years back? Why did he betray Aluko Peters? Is the Governor a party to the slaughter of Mr Smith, the governorship aspirant of the Friendship Party where the incumbent governor belonged.

"Silly little fly," Momoh said in frustration as he prepared to get to bed.

In the actual sense, Tunji had been into politics right from his youth. He was the Student Union President of his university while he was at his third year. Aluko was his friend who didn't support him at all. Aluko Peter was against politics so much that he didn't vote for him. However, Tunji regretted becoming the president of the student union due to a lot of setbacks he encountered while in the post--he was expelled by the school authority after being convicted of bribery. By then, his academic performance was already a write-off.

Tunji promised to kill himself because he felt he couldn't face the shame that resulted. Aluko found him in strong thought and pumped enough motivations into his brain. Tunji got back to his feet again and went back to the university to begin afresh.

Tunji had promised Aluko to do away with politics because it was a dirty game, but in a short while, he began to move with the politicians again. That was when he met the incumbent governor and made friends with him, though the man was quite older than him.

Tunji was discomfited when the governor didn't give him any post as promised. He hopped out of the Friendship Party and became a Harmony Party member. Four years later, he attempted to contend for the governorship election, but failed in the primary. It was a unanimous decision by his party members not to vote for him because of his past corruption record while he was the SUG President of his school. Tunji was so angry that he quit politics and began to look for his friend, Aluko Peters, who was already an established lecturer in a university.

Aluko Peter was then a senior lecturer, a Ph D holder. He believed so much in morality such that he didn't have to think too much before accepting his old friend back. Then, Aluko Peter was working on his book, Politics, A Poison To Black Races. Tunji was interested in the book such that he became the Editor-in-chief of the book. The book was widely acclaimed and lucrative, such that Tunji benefitted financially from it.

Then, just some months back, Tunji and some well-wishers came up with the idea that Mr Aluko Peter was the right man to take the governorship position from the Friendship Party which was having the governor on seat, having almost completed a two-term tenure.

Aluko eventually yielded to the pressure of his friend, Tunji and his wife, Folashade and agreed to have a turnaround. He was the only candidate to represent the Harmony Party, so there would not be a primary election in the party. Everyone wanted him to defeat Mr. Smith, the governor's candidate.

Aluko Peter began to play politics, but in a very fair manner, rejecting violence, despite all the pleas from Tunji his friend that he should employ it. Aluko rejected political thugs and expressed his displeasure whenever Tunji his friend had gone behind his back to employ them.

The current governor of the state knew that his party would fail if it was Aluko Peter that would indeed stand for the opposition party, so he began to fabricate a plan. His party mustn't lose the election.

To achieve this, he bought Tunji over again, assuring him that he would replace Mr. Smith if Tunji can deflect to the Friendship Party again. Tunji was greedy of the position and then began to find a way of betraying his friend, Aluko. First, to make him give up his political ambition, Tunji sent hired assassin, in the person of Momoh, to kill Aluko's wife. To his amazement, Aluko became stronger politically and assured the masses that he would win the election for his wife's sake.

When the governor of the Friendship Party told Mr. Smith to step down for Tunji, the man refused, despite the fact that the deputy governor's seat was offered to him. Then, with the consent of the governor, Tunji cleared him off his way, sending Deinde to do the job while himself was in the U.K.

No single soul suspected that Tunji had a hand in Mr. Smith's death because it was a perfect alibi. Now, since Deinde had confessed before his escape that it was Mr Aluko who sent him to kill Mr. Smith, there seemed to be no problem for Mr. Tunji for him winning the forthcoming election. But his mistake was that he allowed Yemi to see his face when he was kidnapped. He needed to terminate Yemi's life first before stepping out to the public to campaign for the election.

Mr Tunji reassured Momoh of the post he promised him once more, but this time, the latter was skeptical and pessimistic. He poured out his mind as he said, "Sir, so how will I get a certificate that I completed secondary school?"

The man laughed and said, "You surprise me sometimes, Momoh. What do you mean by this? Are you not the one achieving great great things like kidnapping and killing powerful people? Why is it that it is pencil and paperwork you are getting worried over? Don't worry your head Momoh. The same way I obtained a university certificate for the governor on seat, that's the same will we will get your certificate sqq both secondary and university. Infact, if you wish to graduate out of two universities at once, I will do it for you. All it will cost me is some million naira."

Momoh was feeling shy. He was scared that the man could spend the money on him and eventually lose out in the election. How would the man regard him if such happened? Would he not have some mixed feelings?

"Sir...don't spend such huge amount on me."

"Leave that to me, okay!" Tunji said.

"But if you lose the election..."

"Sssh, we can't lose the election," Tunji said. "Don't you understand? The current governor will be leaving his post for me. He has made me his candidate for God's sake, Momoh. Please come out of your dream?"

Momoh kept quiet for a while. Now he wanted to know if the governor was in support of the death of Mr. Smith, the former governor's candidate, so he asked," Sir, but does the governor know anything about the murder of Mr Smith?"

"Leave that to me alone, Momoh!" Tunji was furious. "It is not for you to know such thing now. Just do what I ask you to do and it is going to be well with our souls."

There was silence.

Tunji began to get fever over Benson who didn't appear to give them feedback. He needed to know if Deinde's sister had been killed. He also needed to end Benson's life because he felt he was no more useful. When he asked Momoh about Benson, he was as clueless as the man himself. However, Momoh assured Tunji that he would locate Benson and make him pay for not returning to them.

"Don't spare him at all!" Tunji spoke with a critical face.
--- --- --- ---
Yemi lay on the hospital bed and stared at life from beneath the ceiling:

"What is life but a useless stick of toothpick injuring the teeth of those who have it? What is life but a broom that keeps scrubbing the dusty floor. What is life...?"

Yemi had wept out all the tears inside his gland. He was feeling excruciating pains right below his groins where two bullets had just been ejected from. He had had three bullets in his legs at too different occasions. Now it seemed he would become a limping man if at all he made it alive out of the prison.

Yemi's head rang anger, his face beamed shock, his noses breathe dizziness. The perception that the Chief Warder had a hand in his latest attack was driving him nut.

During the gun duel between the duo, Snakemaster and Teejaybobo and the police, Yemi had laid his hand on the map of the prison which fell from the latter's hand. Yemi thought it was the Chief Warden who gave the map to them.

Yemi kept the map. He would show it to the AIG anytime he met him again. He would tell the AIG to carry out a thorough scrutiny on Yemisi and the Chief Warden because it was Yemisi who opened his prison gate for the criminal while the Chief Warden was probably the one who gave them the map.

A love affair must be between the Chief Warden and Yemisi, he thought.

Yemi was still wallowing in thought when the doctor entered in and pointed at him.

"Mr Yemi, they are here...for you," the doctor said and began to walk away. The guests stepped in. They were carrying tough faces. Yemi was scared as they began to step close to him.

"Come with us," they said and began to pull him forcefully. He wriggled and yelled but they gagged his mouth and tied his hands and legs as they carried him out and sandwiched him into a Mazda car having two people in it already. They drove away quickly.

The journey to the unknown destination was long . Yemi’s heart pounded greatly. Now he believed strongly that his end had come. Bye to the world of suspense, bye to the world where the guilty reap the reward of the innocent and vice-versa; bye to the world of people who would want you for only what they needed. Goodbye, earth!
Yemi shut his eyes and lay cold. He tried to cease his breath so that he could die before time, but it was just too difficult. The long journey was soon over. The car had halted before a beach. They dragged him to the beach and made him sit on the sand.
“Who are you?” Yemi asked when his mouth was loosed.
“Keep quiet,” they shunned him. “We are sent by Deinde’s people to rescue you. Thank you for the job well done, for setting Deinde free. We are here to give you the balance of the work you have done.”
Yemi was shocked. Momoh who sent him the errand didn’t pay him a dime let alone giving him the balance. He knew at once that they were telling a lie.
“Sirs, what are you talking about?” Yemi asked.
“You know, don’t you?” said one of them. “We are sent by Momoh to rescue you. Deinde is now with us. We are sent to pay you the balance of the work you did.”
“Thank you Mr. Yemi for job well done,” another person said.
Yemi began to suspect that they were police. Perhaps they wanted to rope him into trouble.
“I told you I was forced at gunpoint to set Deinde free, so what are you talking about here? I don’t need any balance at all because I wasn’t paid for this bloody job. I am innocent.”
The men laughed. Yemi felt a sharp slap on his shoulder. He went down into the sand.
“Warder, you are dead today!” they said. “You-are-dead!”
“Who are you?” he asked them.
“Momoh’s men,” they said and fear struck him. Yemi began to feel that his family had been kidnapped by them too.
“Sirs, you can kill me, but don’t touch my family, please.”
“Ssh,” they made him shut up. Someone pulled him up jerkily.
“Say your last prayer!” he screamed.
Yemi was dragged towards the bank of the beach. Yemi knew he would soon be drowned in the water, but he needed to get some answers to the questions bothering his mind, so he asked them:
“Please tell me who actually sent you, are you working for the Chief Warden? Did he send you to drown me?”
They ignored him and kept dragging him in the fine sand.
“Are you going to drown me?”
“Yes of course,” said one of them. “You have been staying too long in the cell.”
“Please—please!” Yemi was shouting. “Tell me…are you working for the Chief warden? Did he send you?”
They grinned without giving him a reply.
“Please let me not die in suspense.”
“Do you care for suspense in death?” someone said.
“You will see the revelation when you get to hell,” another person said. They laughed.
Yemi was taken to the brink of the sea. Two men lifted him up while another man began to count numbers slowly. He was going to stop at number three and Yemi would be dumped inside the sea.
“Pleeeeaaasssseee!” Yemi begged for his dear life. They ignored him.
“…two…three!”
They threw Yemi away.
