I'm delighted you didn't bring in the issue of fuel economy. However, these two crossovers will do decent jobs. The Lexus is however a better bet here. It looks chic and classy, more comfy, its a V6 engine so its more powerful and it comes in either fabric or leather interior. Its more expensive than the rav4 and if you can maintain its mechanical and electrical systems, body and interior, you'll surely get a good deal when selling off. The lexus is bigger than the RAV4 because the Lexus rX is a midsized crossover while the RAV4 is a compact crossover.
Some market variants of Rav4 second generation have ECU issue which if left unattended to would crash the gearbox.

However, if you're buying any of the crossovers, and irs a Nigerian used vehicle, be sure to take a very good mechanic to inspect it. Ensure its thermostat isn't removed, its radiator fan isn't running continuously instead it should make a run-stop-run-stop cycle, it shouldn't have Check engine light, airbag light, ATF light continuously on or blinking in the dashboard.

OPfor you to buy one of those trucks next week is a bad idea because your reasoning is not smart.

You are looking to drop millions on a second/third hand vehicle you plan to use for a year and worried about the resale value!

Right now you sound like someone that can easily be sold on a piece of junk because you are in a hurry to buy for a short term use.

Change your mind to a car you will like to drive till the wheels fall off then go for a lexus RX 330/350 or a 2005+, 4Runner

The 4runner should be cheaper and more capable off road

If the Lexus has cloth interior it is not a real Lexus but a Toyota Ranier the just have the same body but the engine suspension and level of luxury is different.
