sounds like a plan. l hope his mum has been availed of the donations and if palliative treatment isnt as costly as chemotherapy, can a more comprehensive empowerment plans be made to consolidate on quality of life.
That's a given but can only be thought of once we have an agreed definitive plan of action concerning our primary responsibility

It would have been good if it was restricted to the liver but unfortunately it has spread to other regions hence why it's at stage 4

This is quite sad sad

With what I have researched, stage 4 liver cancer is a terrible stage and chemotherapy won't help him much.
What I learnt was that he needs a combination therapy treatment of chemotherapy with sofernabine( couldn't get the spelling of the drug well) . he needs a radiation therapy and a surgery.
Surgery to take out the liver and get a donor for a new liver.
Chemotherapy and radiation to kill off the cells that have spread around his body.
He is too weak for this combination. Both will damage normal cells. IMO, chemo is a no no! his bones can take it. sad

This does not work for metastatic cancer. Talking from experience. My aunt started with a small lump in her breast and started this so called therapy. With all the food restrictions and what not. She did not make it. This was cancer that was still in stage 2 but she believed so much in chemo is a poison that kills good and bad cells while this was the miracle cure. She did not last 8 months after she saw the lump. By then, the thing had eaten into her breast so badly. Please, jump and pass this thing. Na smoke.

Seconded.

Is it possible we lay out the options for DJ and his family and let them make their decisions?

Exactly. In a reasonable healthcare system, this would have been done already. His family really should be front and center in the decision making process to be honest. At this time, it doesn't even sound like any of them or even DJ know what's really going on or the prognosis which is quite shameful on the part of the doctors.

DJ and the brother are in the know but no assurance that they understand the gravity of the situation.

We are working on finding specific details of what palliative treatment offered at LCC entails.

We will try and get a team together (possibly 2 field workers and any volunteer/volunteers willing to accompany them) to visit and present options to the family

Nice move.

I think it's better we let them choose. This is a crucial situation for the family and their opinion matters. Our prayers and support are with them.

Ladies and gentlemen,I am having a rethink regarding chemo and I have asked myself some tough questions over and over again and unable to come up with an answer.
If DJ was my younger brother Eze that I love to pieces, and at this present stage and with how frail he looks, what will I recommend?
Chemo?
This is tough,very tough

I am afraid folks
Very afraid
The prognosis For stage 4 liver cancer is very very poor even with chemo,I need to be frank
This is sad.
DJ if you are reading,we love you and are still believing for a miracle for you
I will use this opportunity to point you to The Lord Jesus Christ and ask for mercy and Grace
God has the final say.

If in this world only we have hope,we are of all men most miserable---Holy Bible.

Sorry folks,I often don't know how to sound politically correct

Please no one should quote this,I intend to delete it later

@babyosisi U just spoke like my aunt. Contacted her some hours ago to ask for her help cos she is a medical personnel in US. She said d same thing u said not even forgetting d God factor which is very crucial. Even said she will start prayer for DJ.

DJ there is nothing bigger than God if u do believe in miracles. He is the one with the final say. And surely He will lead us aright to the right path. Just believe and have much faith. He's surely on ur matter.

@r231 any hope so far regarding the info?

My prayer

Father Lord I come to you on behalf of DJ,a young man I have never met but whose situation has touched our hearts and brought hundreds together for a common purpose .
I know that you hear me when I call and you said that if I ask anything in your name not wavering, you will do it for your name's sake.
It is my desire that you touch DJ with your healing hands and cause a turning around of this situation.
Guide us all in the decisions to take regarding his care and most importantly we implore you Lord to have mercy on him
forgive his shortcomings and cause healing to flow in his body.
Let the angels of the lord surround him this minute and minister healing unto him.
Where medical science fails,we ask that you who can transcend all time and space go to places that science cannot go and cause a turning around for him that all the multitude of people reading this thread be encouraged by what you can do and all the glory and honor and praise be to you and you alone.
To anyone reading this thread and who has in one shape or another been a blessing to this young man,you shall have no reason to weep or suffer any debilitating illnesses.
may the Grace of. Our Lord Jesus and the love of God and the sweet fellowship of the Holy Spirit rest and abide with us all in Jesus name
Amen.

God over heaven and earth, there's nothing you cannot do. Pls help save DJ,give him new bones, new blood cells, new organs and a new liver. Lord have mercy on him, hear us as we cry. Your word says if two or three shall gather in my name I will answer them. Your word also tells us that you have given us all authority in heaven and in the earth that whatever we bind on earth shall be bound in heaven and whatever we loose her shall be loose in heaven. We lift up out voices and our hearts and we bind every spirit of cancer and any terminal illness in hammed adelodun's life. We release unto him good health.
Lord look upon your children and answer our prayers. In Jesus mighty name we pray amen!!

I'm afraid it's not in your place to decide what we can or can't do.
TeHN was set up because a group of individuals with common goal to help those in need decided to put a structure together in order to achieve set goals.
That desire still remains and our support group has grown beyond NL

This response is just unfortunate on so many levels TEHN may not foresee now.

Trust me guys, this your move is a very wrong one, with implications even beyond those explained by babyosisi. Speaking from experience here...

My thoughs about all this will be a little lengthy and we'll again be discussing TEHN instead of DJ.

Do you need someone to help/ replace the third TEHN volunteer ( Mynd44 I think)? That can be worked out.

Don't pull the plug, if you do, it will haunt.

OK I see/ you guys aren't pulling out. Nice.

What and what wake up this cancerous cell

I am not a cancer specialist but the simplest way to describe this is this.

The human body is made up of cells .these cells continually undergo a cycle where they divide and then they die and new cells are formed.
That is normal.
There are substances capable of causing tumors and for some odd reason these substances could be introduced into the human cells.
When this happens, normal cells that ordinary will undergo the cycle of growth division and death will fail to obey that rule and begin to divide and grow uncontrollably without the normal regulatory mechanism.
If these substances are carcinogens ( substances capable of causing cancers) the individual ends up with a cancer if they not carcinogens the person will end up with a benign tumor that is not cancer.

The big difference between cancers and non cancerous tumors is that the non cancerous tumors or benign tumors grow just locally in one spot but the cancers ( malignant tumors) are capable of not just growing locally but these cells can travel through the blood vessels and lymph systems ( that clears infection from the body) and can be carried to distant sites to set up another cancer foci.they can also invade surrounding tissues as they grow.
The extent of their growth outside their primary origin determines the staging of the cancer and also determines the prognosis ( outcome)
Some cancers have better prognosis than others.

There are theories about who gets cancer and who doesn't and all the predisposing factors
Let me attempt to say a little on that

1 there are people who have cancers and certain tumors running in their families and are likely to get it
2. There are carcinogens in cigarettes, chewing tobacco, fumes etc
3.there is a particularly scary one in foods like peanuts and other grains called aflatoxin
4 there are benign growths that turn to cancer over time
5 over exposure to the sun and skin cancers in very fair skinned people
6 stomach cancers in Asian smoked fish eating communities well documented
7. Betel nuts in India with mouth cancers
8 soy milk and link to breast cancers
9. Cancers increasing with age
10.many many more

In Africa ,liver cancers are more common than in civilized countries
The main predisposing factors are

Untreated chronic hepatitis B
Alcoholism

How do you get hepatitis B?
It is blood borne
Don't share needles ,razors or any sharps, barbers and quack chemist "doctors "using the same razor and needles etc
Sadly some people get it at birth passed on from their mothers( no fault of theirs)

Not everyone who has or has had hepatitis B ends up with cirrhosis and liver cancer

Infact most recover
A small number ends up with these bad consequences.

Can hepatitis B be prevented?
Yes,there is a 3 part vaccine for hep B and every health care worker is encouraged to get it

Can you find out if you have hepatitis B
Yes
There is a blood test that can detect the antibodies to the virus.

Good news

Majority of infected people recover and build a lifetime immunity to hep B

Hi All,

In the spirit of openness and sharing absolutely all we know, we just received feedback this morning from a consultant with the BMI Healthcare UK that was contacted late last week (Friday). Only the consultant’s name has been redacted and the message is as received.
“The patient has incurable cancer. Whether chemotherapy is worthwhile is unpredictable.
Generally if the patient is poorly and is not well enough to work, get out of the house each day, (performance status of 3 or worse), chemotherapy is likely to do more harm than good.

if the performance status is as poor as it sounds he is unlikely to benefit from chemo and it will likely cause more rapid decline.

Regards
TeHN
The LCC oncologist and other doctors had to know this....but still re ommended chemo. I first thought they were all bandits...now I know they ae vultures...ruthless...money first anything else after. Any other way forward but chemo.

This thread grows fast I cannot keep up.
.
Seems like one suggestion on alternative therapy has been turned down already. Cant say. Couldn't read d over 20 pages that added today.
.
I know of a Pax herbal centre in Ewu, in Edo state.
It was set up by Monks, and I know that they have been into pharmacological and botanical research for up to 20 years.
I read their book, Nature Power written by Fr. Anselm Adodo.
There's also another, Herbs for Healing which doesnt seem to be in circulation anymore. They do publish magazines though I haven't laid hands on any recently.
.
I know they do have drugs that are Nafdac registered...and they have received commendations for the work they do.
.
I know of 2 people who have benefitted from there. One had skin cancer, the other breast cancer. They are both alive and well today.
.
I hope someone here can verify this info. Pax Herbal centre at d Benedictine Monastery in Ewu, Edo state.

Until our leaders are not allowed to go oversees for checkup and their family, Nigerian will continue to be a shadow of reality when it comes to healthcare, India is where they all run to, have they thought of what would happen if India never invested into their own health system, at least India is as corrupt as Nigeria but still have time to invest into health care system.
