One metric people use to judge websites and blogs is Google PageRank update. Basically the “Google PageRank” of a page (website or blog) ranges from 0-10. This metric demonstrates how powerful a page is on Google Search engines. Most websites have a pagerank between 0 and 3 (inclusive) while the big sites have a pagerank between 7 and 10 inclusive. Webmasters works at building traffic and links in order to increase their Google Pagerank. This is because having a higher pagerank gives the site/blog an authority look.


The good thing is, most probloggers who understands and follow Google’s update knew it was only a matter of time before Google finally kills the pagerank. In October 2013, the famous Matt Cutts declared PageRank not being updated anymore but there was an update later in December of the same year 2013. However, recently (October/November 2014), John Mueller, a Google employee has declared that we will not see an update anymore for Google PageRank. Which means that the PageRank update is finally dead. This was stated in the English Google Webmaster Central office-hours hangout. You can take time to watch the full hangout which takes like 1 hour. There are so many other things you’ll learn.

So, if you are an advertiser reading this and you still judge a website/blog based on it’s Google PageRank update, you may have to reconsider that. Focus less on pagerank but more on a site’s/blog’s traffic and conversion. This would help you to price your adverts well and also place your adverts on well trafficked blogs. If you are a website or a blog owner, it’s time to focus less on your pagerank. Focus more on your blog’s authority in your niche. Focus more on conversion optimization rather than pagerank optimization.

A lot of things are changing on how Google ranks a site/blog on the search engines. You need to focus more on those. Now that we have Google pagerank update out of the way, we would see how things unfold in the next couple of months and years. Also, it is safe to know that Google now updates ranking system on search engine based on how converting your blog is on Google search. The more people find your blog on search engine and click to open, the more Google finds your blog useful and they tend to rank it more.
