Politics / Oshiomole's Embarassment: See What The Bible Say by 1a2b3c: 3:01pm On May 29, 2019
Luke 14:10 The Passion Translation (TPT)

10 Instead, when you’re invited to a banquet, you should choose to sit in the lowest place[a] so that when your host comes and sees you there, he may say, ‘My friend, come with me and let me seat you in a better place.’ Then, in front of all the other guests at the banquet, you will be honored and seated in the place of highest respect.

Luke 14:10-11 New Living Translation (NLT)

10 “Instead, take the lowest place at the foot of the table. Then when your host sees you, he will come and say, ‘Friend, we have a better place for you!’ Then you will be honored in front of all the other guests. 11 For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

Luke 14:10-11 The Message (MSG)

10-11 “When you’re invited to dinner, go and sit at the last place. Then when the host comes he may very well say, ‘Friend, come up to the front.’ That will give the dinner guests something to talk about! What I’m saying is, If you walk around with your nose in the air, you’re going to end up flat on your face. But if you’re content to be simply yourself, you will become more than yourself.”

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission will begin mass metering for electricity consumers by May 1, to bridge the metering gaps in the country.

“The commission issued permits to MAPs on April 5, in accordance with section 4(3) of the MAP Regulations 2018, to MAPs that were successful in the procurements.

Religion / Daystar Church Gives UNHCR N10m For Conflict Victims by 1a2b3c: 8:41pm On Apr 02, 2019
Daystar Christian Centre has donated N10million to United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) in support of victims of conflicts in Africa.

The donation was made on Tuesday at the Daystar Christian Centre in Lagos.

Senior Pastor of the church, Sam Adeyemi, said that the donation was to support UNHCR in helping people forced to flee their homes because of conflict, violence or persecution in Africa.

He said it was the church’s commitment toward restoring the resilience of families forced to flee across the continent.

According to him: “When people flee their homes and leave everything they own behind, their needs become critical and their coping mechanisms compromised.

“Without help, they cannot access shelter, or even cooking utensils – let alone education and healthcare.

“Some arrive with severe trauma after facing unimaginable ordeals before and during flights.”

He added: “We need to do something like Jesus Christ did; he provided food for the hungry, he touch sick people physical and heals their sicknesses”.

“So our church (Daystar Christian Centre) has been involved in practical interventions in the community, building schools for children, providing bags for families that cannot afford, school fees for family that cannot afford, hospitals bills etc.”

He also pointed out the church has been involved in community development project since inception.

“We at Daystar are happy to support UNHCR’s work on the ground to provide emergency relief and support to our forcibly displaced brothers and sisters,” Adeyemi said.

He also challenged the church community to tackle humanitarian challenges around them like Jesus would have done.

The Assistant Communications Officer, UNHCR Nigeria, Mr. Gabriel Adeyemo, said the donation, which was about $30,000 was handed over to the UNHCR team in Lagos by the church in Lagos.

Mr. Jose Antonio-Canhandula, UNHCR’s Representative to Nigeria and ECOWAS appreciated the church for the donation.

He said the donation would be used to provide life-saving emergency assistance to families forced to flee their homes.

“Nigeria is unfortunately affected by this phenomenon, not only in North-East, but also the Middle Belt.

“Many displaced persons do not have where to sleep; no access to water; and access to healthcare facilities is very limited.

“They do not participate in the economy and cannot fend for themselves,” Antonio-Canhandula said.

He said the commitment of Daystar Centre to help uprooted families was truly appreciated and also demonstrated the spirit of sharing.

He said that the “centre had paved the way for other civic organisations to support our brothers and sisters fleeing due to conflict.”

Antonio-Canhandula noted that the world’s displaced persons had reached 68.5 million, adding an unprecedented level of over 25 million of them live in Sub-Saharan Africa.

He said that 76 per cent of the 68.5 million were women and children.

Mrs. Needa Jehu-Mazou, the Head of UNHCR’S private sector partnerships in Africa, said Nigeria is a very hospitable country and as foster in our entire plans for refugees problems over the year.

She also said “what Daystar has demonstrated today is phenomenal, really ground breaking.

“It is the first faith- based organisation in Africa to throw it weight and align publicly with the UN and commit funds to it.

“9% of all our income comes from the private sector globally. It was 423 million dollars last year and I’m very proud to count Nigerians in Daystar Church in particular among this donors.

“We also have incredible other donors in Nigeria like 2 baba who support us immensely, financially and so many other ways,” she stressed

Politics / Kano Rigging Template Won’t Work In Adamawa Rerun Polls, PDP Warns by 1a2b3c: 12:07am On Mar 28, 2019
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has warned those attempting to reenact the Kano rigging template in the Governorship Supplementary election in Adamawa state, that they will do so at their own peril.

The PDP alleged that it has full details of how the All Progressives Congress (APC) has hired thugs and miscreants from other states with instructions to cause confusion, invade polling units, disrupt the electoral process, snatch ballot boxes, engage in ballot stuffing and assist the APC to allocate votes for its candidate, with the assistance of compromised INEC and security agents.

The national publicity secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, said PDP has also been made aware of “how the APC has cloned Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), which they plan to use to manipulate the process for their candidate.”

Ologbondiyan in a statement told “APC and its thugs to bear in mind that there is no way they can be allowed to repeat the evil they committed in Kano in Adamawa State.

‘Our field agents, who have been at alert, have full knowledge of the planned movements of the APC thugs and our members and supporters are ready to resist them and use all means, necessary and legitimate, to defend our votes, even in this supplementary election.”

The PDP said that by law, it’s candidate, Ahmed Fintiri, has since March 9, 2019, won the Adamawa state governorship election, having scored the highest number of valid votes and secured the statutory 25% in two-third of the state.

“This validates the known fact that Adamawa state is home to the PDP and this supplementary election, though unnecessary, will reinforce our victory.

“The party therefore directs our teeming members and supporters to come out en-mass to vote and defend their votes from the polling unit to collation and the final announcement of results.

Politics / Ganduje, El-rufai Want To 'assist' Adamawa APC With Election Thugs, Says PDP by 1a2b3c: 9:17pm On Mar 27, 2019
A press statement, which Tahir signed and made available to SaharaReporters, reads in part: "We were reliably informed and we verily believed that APC Government of Adamawa State was boasting that Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State and Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State promised to assist them with thugs to invade Adamawa State with a view to manipulating the process of the rerun to ensure victory at their side at all costs.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says it has uncovered the plans of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to violently disrupt the Adamawa State supplementary governorship election scheduled to hold on Thursday, March 28, 2019.

At an emergency briefing on Tuesday night in Yola, Barr. Tahir Alhaji Shehu, PDP Chairman in the state, alleged that governors Nasir el-Rufai and Abdullahi Ganduje of Kaduna and Kano states respectively, were coordinating to import thugs to Adamawa state during the supplementary polls.

"In view of the afore-stated, therefore, we find it necessary to draw the attention of all security agencies to take note and put eyes on this issue."

He also charged the electorate in the 44 polling units affected by the supplementary polls to be calm, and to turn out in their large numbers to confirm the PDP candidate, Ahmed Umar Fintiri, as the next Governor.

But Mohammed Abdullahi, Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, dismissed the allegations, saying: "Since we came on board, we have never used thugs, not even during campaigns.

"I think by this frivolous accusation, PDP has simply exposed its plans of employing the services of Nyesom Wike and Samuel Ortom who are known for violence to achieve victory at all cost. On our part, we are calling on our supporters, especially the youth, to conduct themselves peacefully because elections are temporal."

Also adding his voice, Barr. Shagna Pwamaddi, APC Legal Adviser, said: "You can accuse Governor Bindow of anything but political thuggery. We'll have time to assess the allegation properly this night and respond tomorrow, especially considering the names mentioned in the allegation."

The head teacher of Okotie Eboh Primary School 1 where seven-year-old Success Adegor was sent home for non-payment of school fess, has been suspended by the Delta state government.

The suspended, according to WARRI TODAY, followed the head teacher, Mrs. Vero Igbigwe’s inability to explain why she demanded for the money when the commissioner for basic and secondary education, Chiedu Ebie, visited the school on Monday.

The school is located in Sapele, one of the major towns in the oil rich Delta state.

The video showing the poor little girl going home from school had embarrassed the state government, leading to many government officials, Austin Ayemidejor airport project director; Sapele local government chairman and the state commissioner for education, visiting the school and the parents of the poor girl.

The viral video has also brought the poor girl to limelight as celebrities in the persons of Mr. Jollof, AY and many others have vowed to sponsor the little girl to university education.

The chief press secretary to the governor, Charles Aniagwu, had earlier, in a statement said the Delta state government operates a tuition free primary and secondary education, so there is no basis for sending the girl away from school in the name of school fees.

It was however, later learnt that she was not sent away for school fees but for examination fees.
