"DON’T BE THE NEXT VICTIM” — How Nigerians Can Beat 419, Scammers and Fraudsters in 2026 From fake job alerts on WhatsApp to “EFCC refund” calls and “inheritance” emails, fraudsters in Nigeria are getting smarter. But so can you. With millions lost yearly to 419, online scams, and fraud, security agencies and consumer groups are urging citizens to adopt a “verify first, send never” mindset. Here’s a powerful, practical guide to protect yourself, your money, and your family: 1. KNOW THE MOST COMMON 419/ SCAM TRICKS IN NIGERIA TODAY 1. Job Scam: “Urgent hiring. Pay N15,000 for ID card/training.” Real companies never ask you to pay to get a job. 2. Loan/Grant Scam: “FG N100,000 grant. Send BVN + OTP.” No government agency will ask for OTP or password. 3. Romance/Investment Scam: Fake profiles on Facebook/TikTok promising love or 20% ROI in 7 days. 4. “EFCC/CBN Refund” Call: “Sir, you qualify for compensation. Send N10,000 processing fee.” EFCC/CBN will never ask for money. 5. Fake Bank Alerts / POS Scam: You get a fake credit alert, then the sender pressures you to release goods. 6. WhatsApp Hack: “Bro, send me the code that just came to your phone.” That code gives them access to your WhatsApp. 2. 5 GOLDEN RULES TO AVOID BEING SCAMMED Rule 1: VERIFY BEFORE YOU TRUST Call the company directly using the number on their official website, not the one in the message. For banks, use the number on your ATM card. Rule 2: GUARD YOUR OTP, BVN, NIN, PASSWORD Your OTP is your signature. No bank staff, CBN, EFCC, or “agent” will ever ask for it. Once you give it, your account is gone. Rule 3: IF IT’S TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, IT IS Double salary, free iPhone, N5m grant, foreign lover sending dollars — pause and investigate. Rule 4: CHECK THE LINK Scammers copy bank and government sites. Look for `https://` and the correct spelling: `gtbank.com` not `gtbnak.com`. Don’t click links from strangers. Rule 5: REPORT FAST The longer you wait, the harder it is to recover money. Save evidence: screenshots, account numbers, phone numbers. 3. WHERE TO REPORT IN NIGERIA 1. NCC: Dial 622 for fraud complaints, or report via NCC Consumer Portal 2. EFCC: info@efcc.gov.ng. EFCC has zonal offices in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Kano, etc. 3. NIBSS/Your Bank: Call your bank’s fraud desk immediately and ask to place a “link and block” on the fraudster’s account. 4. Nigeria Police: Visit the nearest station or Cybercrime Unit. Keep the incident report. 5. NITDA: For data breach and identity theft cases. 4. PROTECT YOUR PHONE AND MONEY 1. Enable 2-Step Verification on WhatsApp, Gmail, and Bank apps 2. Use Bank Transfer Limits and transaction alerts via SMS 3. Don’t save card details on unknown shopping sites 4. Talk to elderly parents: Scammers target them with “your son is in police custody, send money” calls The Cybercrimes Act 2015 and EFCC Act make internet fraud, identity theft, and obtaining money by false pretence punishable with prison terms and fines. Convictions have been secured in Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt in the last 12 months. Many victims feel shame and stay silent. But scammers count on that silence to hit someone else. Speaking up and reporting helps police track accounts and save the next person. Final Word from EFCC: “Fraudsters prey on desperation and greed. If you are struggling, reach out to legitimate agencies, not miracle links.” Stay Alert. Stay Alive. Don’t fund crime. |
FG Moves to End Prostitution and Brothels in Nigeria Through Law Enforcement, Economic Reform, and Rehabilitation Courts back crackdown as FCT, Lagos, Jigawa record raids and convictions ahead of 2027 The Federal Government is intensifying efforts to curb prostitution and the operation of brothels across Nigeria, with a renewed focus on law enforcement, human trafficking laws, and social welfare programs aimed at addressing poverty-driven sex work. While prostitution remains a contentious issue, Nigerian law and recent court rulings have made it clear: the business of prostitution and brothel-keeping is not protected, and agencies have the power to arrest, prosecute, and shut down offenders. Nigeria does not have one single federal law that says “prostitution is legal.” The legal position differs by region: 1. Criminal Code - Southern Nigeria: Sections 223, 224, and 225 criminalize procuring women for sex work, keeping a brothel, and living off the earnings of prostitution. Section 225A also makes it an offense for a man to “knowingly live wholly or in part on the earnings of prostitution” or to “persistently solicit for immoral purposes” — punishable by up to 2 years imprisonment. 2. Penal Code/Sharia - Northern Nigeria: Prostitution is explicitly illegal in all Northern states that operate Sharia/penal code. 3. Trafficking Act: The Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015 targets trafficking for sexual exploitation. NAPTIP leads federal enforcement. 4. Court Backing: In 2024, the Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed a suit seeking to legalize prostitution, describing it as “an immoral act that is alien to the cultural values of all the ethnic groups in the country” and said there was “no reason to stop the Minister of the FCT and security agencies from arresting those that engage in such illicit business”. Recent Raids, Arrests, and Convictions Enforcement has been led by FCTA, Police, Hisbah, and Lagos KAI: 1. FCT, Abuja: The FCT Social Development Secretariat said over 27 commercial sex workers were arrested during raids on brothels* in the Federal Capital Territory. In May 2019, FCTA raided Caramelo nightclub and arrested *34 women*. Two weeks later, *70 more women* were arrested from different nightclubs in Abuja. 2. Jigawa State: The Jigawa Hisbah Board reported arresting *over 44 commercial sex workers* in one operation. 3. Lagos State: In a recent dislodgement operation in Obalende, the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps secured convictions of *12 commercial sex workers* for prostitution and breach of peace. They were sentenced to 8 months imprisonment. Earlier, a Lagos magistrate court in Ogba sentenced *6 women to 3 months imprisonment with a N40,000 fine option after a raid on an illegal brothel in Mile 2. Authorities say many arrests are made under “idle person” and public nuisance provisions, with some convicted to 1 month in prison or fines. FG’s 3-Point Plan to “End” the Trade Government and civil society officials say arrests alone won’t work. The forecast strategy includes: 1. Enforcement + Prosecution: Target brothel owners, pimps, and traffickers, not just individuals. The law already penalizes “operation or ownership of brothels” and trafficking. 2. Economic Alternatives: FCT and state welfare agencies say many women enter sex work due to poverty and unemployment. FG plans through NAPTIP and Social Development to expand skills acquisition, micro-credit, and rehabilitation for rescued persons. 3. Public Sensitization: Agencies are working with NGOs to change demand patterns, educate on health risks, and discourage trafficking of Nigerian women abroad. cd70fc0a With the 2027 elections approaching, state governments in Abuja, Lagos, and Northern states say they will continue “large-scale enforcement operations” to make cities “habitable for business”. NAPTIP says focus will shift more to brothel owners and trafficking networks under the 2015 Act. Prostitution and brothel-keeping are penalized under Nigerian law, especially when linked to procurement, underage persons, or trafficking. Recent data shows hundreds arrested in FCT, Lagos, and Jigawa alone. The FG says the long-term solution must combine policing with jobs and rehabilitation. |
Peter Obi the incoming Nigeria President, who will be the next President of Nigeria come 2027. Peter Obi is an experienced person who have spoken against the sufferings Nigerians are experiencing and have given his warning to those willing to listen: Peter Obi wants Nigeria to be a better place for Nigerians and foreigners to live in. Peter Obi have well expressed his idea to make Nigeria a Better Nation from consumption to production Nation: Peter Obi have proven himself to be a reliable person to Nigerians and is as refreshing to Nigerians like cold water in the heat of harvest time. Peter Obi is a honest man who have feed his hungry enemies food and given them a drink when they are thirsty. Peter Obi loves to help the widows, orphans, school children, poor people and the needy in Nigeria and abroad. Peter Obi have share his food with the hungry and have open his home to the homeless poor. Peter Obi have given clothes to those who have nothing to wear. Peter Obi loves giving to the poor and he has not close his eyes to the poor. Peter Obi is honest and do not want poor Nigerians to be helpless in their own country Nigeria: he has ensure Nigerians of improvement in the National Security of Nigeria when he becomes the next President of Nigeria after President Buhari. Peter Obi is an intelligent and sensible ruler who loves to defend the rights of the poor and he knows the rights of the poor: Peter Obi loves Justice, fairness and equity. For those undeveloped countries and develop countries who never wants Nigeria to have intelligent and sensible leaders will be defeated and confused. Those develop countries and undeveloped countries who are happy because of the troubles of Nigeria, will be turned back and disgraced. The surrounding nations insulting Nigeria by laughing at Nigeria and mocking Nigeria will soon be disgrace and humiliated. Nigerians from different tribes in Nigeria have come together to form alliances called the obidients, with the main purpose of supporting the honest man called Peter Obi to become the next President of Nigeria come 2027: the obidients are Nigerians and foreigners who wants Nigeria to play his role as the giant of Africa and who desire Nigeria to be a better place for Nigerians and foreigners to live in. HenryStarlife:Think before you talk and stop talking nonsense. Noisemaker |
babesiosis:You are talking nonsense. |
HenryStarlife:You are talking nonsense. Tinubu is one term president of Nigeria and the last yoruba president of Nigeria. |
babesiosis:Or tinubu supporters are the last people to discuss politics with. When it comes to tribalism, you tinubu supporters are at the forefront, no doubt about that but you see politics_ No be Una thing. All what tinubu supporters know how to do is make noise on social space... |
Christistruth03:Are you Drunk? Your pride is deceiving you. |
helinues:Your pride mind is deceiving you. Let’s stick to facts, not 'epistle/mischief': Tinubu didn’t grant live interviews before 2023: True. He did Chatham House, BBC, Arise, but avoided town halls. Nigerians still voted based on track record as Lagos gov + party manifesto + VP debates. Nobody asked 'no video = no competence' then. So why is the rule different for Obi? If 'track record + policy' was enough for Tinubu, it should be enough for Obi too. Provide video of Obi answering governance coherently: Obi did Arise TV 15 Aug 2022, Channels Town Hall, BBC HardTalk, 20+ interviews 2022-2023. He broke down debt-to-GDP, subsidy removal timing, power sector unbundling, agric value chain. You can disagree with his answers, but 'no coherent answer' is false. 'No video you’ve watched' is true for you. That’s different. Employer won’t hire someone who doesn’t know duty: Correct. Good employers check CV + past job performance, not just interview vibes. - Tinubu’s CV: 8 years Lagos gov, IGR grew 10x, BRT started. - Obi’s CV: 8 years Anambra gov, left ₦75bn cash + investments, Anambra was 1 of 3 states not borrowing for salaries 2014. That’s audited 'duty performance'. Interview is 1 hour. Governance is 8 years. Which is better CV? Glaring mischievousness: The mischief is applying 2 standards. If 'no live interview' didn’t stop Tinubu, then 'I haven’t seen Obi’s video' shouldn’t stop you from checking his record. So answer this: As employer, will you reject a candidate with 8 years audited success but few interviews? Or hire someone with good interview but no executive record?" |
helinues:Govt doesn’t check 'how many Yoruba/Igbo align' before security policy. It checks 'what will reduce deaths'. That’s why Delta amnesty happened despite few Ijaw support. You said ESN/UGM = EndSARS aftermath. So cause is known. Prosecution handles crime, dialogue/reform handles cause. That’s Yar’Adua playbook. MEND bombed Abuja 2010. 'Regional militants' also trespassed. Didn’t stop amnesty. So my comparison isn’t 'Igboho = Kanu'. My comparison is 'Govt method'. Govt engaged Igboho politically and released him. Govt engaged Delta militants with amnesty. Govt engages BH with Safe Corridor. Same method can apply to SE to stop more deaths. Crime will still face court. |
helinues:Let’s stick to the discussion like you said. The topic is Obi’s competence, not my ability to find YouTube links at 1am. Provide video or it didn’t happen: That’s not how facts work. If I say 'Tinubu said subsidy is scam in 2012', I don’t need to drop video instantly or the quote becomes false. It means I should provide source later. You also said 'Kanu would have been hanged for EndSARS' - where’s your video/court verdict for that? We’re both guilty of 'no video yet. Farmers will suffer because food price is coming down: That’s economics 101, not gaffe. If food price crashes below cost of production, farmers plant less next season = future scarcity. Buhari’s CBN, World Bank, and FAAN have all warned about that. You can disagree with Obi’s solution, but calling it 'no clue about governance' is wrong. It’s literally Agricultural Economics 101. No record of him answering governance questions accurately: There are hours of Obi town halls, Arise TV, Channels, BBC interviews from 2022-2023 where he broke down debt profile, subsidy, power sector, agric. You may disagree with his answers, but 'no record' is false. 'No convincing record to you' is opinion. Can’t handle party heat, will run from insecurity: Yar’Adua was called 'sickly, can’t handle stress'. He did Niger Delta amnesty. Jonathan was called 'clueless'. He reduced BH territory in 2015. 'Handling heat' ≠ competence. Results do. So instead of 'provide video or shut up', let’s debate: Which Obi policy on security, economy, power do you think will fail and why? That’s the real discussion. Video hunt is distraction." |
helinues:If Igboho was 'punished for threatening not acting', why did FG release him without court conviction? Is that not political solution? If ESN/UGM are 'terrorists', why did FG create Operation Safe Corridor for BH terrorists? Are they less terrorists? If Kanu EndSARS role deserves hanging, why did govt dialogue with militants who killed more soldiers before 2009? Answer those without tribe, then I’ll listen to why Obi is wrong. Because right now, FG’s own actions contradict your 3 points. |
helinues:How did Igboho name appear on DSS wanted list? Why will tinubu pardon Igboho? Make you self dey think before you talk |
helinues:Was Tinubu in Coma when Sunday Igboho was put on wanted list by DSS and later pardon by tinubu government? Hypocrite |
Peter Obi’s recent statement that he would pursue dialogue and seek the release of Nnamdi Kanu as part of efforts to calm tensions in the South-East has drawn loud criticism online. “You can’t negotiate with agitators,” some commentators say. “Releasing Kanu is weakness.” But history — and recent government actions — tell a different story. Shaming Obi for proposing what Nigerian leaders have already done is not just inconsistent. It ignores the facts of how Nigeria has actually achieved peace before. 1. Yar’Adua negotiated with “agitators” — and it worked In 2009, President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua faced a Niger Delta crisis: pipeline bombings, kidnappings, attacks on oil facilities. The militants were labeled “agitators,” “criminals,” “enemies of the state.” Instead of only military force, Yar’Adua’s government opened talks. On June 25, 2009, he announced a 60-day amnesty. Militant leaders like Asari Dokubo, Tompolo, and Boyloaf dropped arms, surrendered, and entered a Disarmament, Demobilization & Reintegration program. In exchange, they received training, stipends, and development promises. Result: Pipeline bombings dropped sharply. Oil production rose from ∼700,000 bpd in 2009 to over 2 million bpd by 2010. The Niger Delta Amnesty Programme still runs today. Whether you agree with all its outcomes or not, the fact is clear: negotiation with armed agitators restored relative peace and revenue. No one today shames Yar’Adua for “talking to militants.” He is praised for choosing dialogue over endless war. 2. Tinubu’s government has also pardoned and engaged controversial figures* Criticism of Obi often ignores what is already happening: Sunday Igboho: Yoruba nation agitator Sunday Adeyemo, aka Sunday Igboho, was arrested in Benin Republic in 2021 and detained. Under the current administration, he was released and has been moving freely in Nigeria since 2024. No trial. No public condemnation of “pardon.” "Repentant” Boko Haram: Since 2016, the federal “Operation Safe Corridor” programme has deradicalized and released thousands of ex-Boko Haram fighters after “repentance” and training. The Army and government defend it as a security strategy. Some returnees have been reintegrated into communities. If government can deradicalize and release Boko Haram suspects, and can allow Igboho’s freedom, then the principle of “dialogue + conditional release” is already established policy. 3. Why Obi’s proposal is not radical Obi is not calling for unconditional release of anyone convicted of violent crime. He has said dialogue is needed to address grievances driving separatist agitation in the South-East, and that Kanu’s continued detention fuels tension. That is the same logic Yar’Adua used: remove the symbol around which agitation rallies, address root causes, and give peace a chance. Facts that make sense: 1. Military crackdowns alone have not ended IPOB-related sit-at-home or violence since 2015. 2. Court processes for Kanu have dragged for years, creating legal and political uncertainty. 3. Every major insurgency Nigeria has calmed — Niger Delta, OPC, Bakassi Boys — involved some form of negotiation, amnesty, or political settlement. You cannot praise Yar’Adua for Niger Delta amnesty, accept “repentant Boko Haram” as policy, watch Igboho walk free, then turn around and shame Peter Obi for saying “let’s negotiate with South-East agitators and review Kanu’s detention.” That is not principle. That is partisanship. If dialogue is good for the Delta and Borno, it deserves honest debate for the South-East too — without name-calling. Nigeria’s unity will be built more on justice + conversation than on shouting down every leader who suggests peace talks. |

Nigerians Give Godswill Akpabio Two Choices: "Impeach Tinubu or Be Removed as Senate President" Abuja, Nigeria — Political tensions are rising across Nigeria as a growing number of citizens and opposition voices intensify pressure on Senate President Godswill Akpabio, demanding decisive action over the nation's economic and governance challenges. The calls, which have gained momentum on social media and in political circles, center on a bold ultimatum directed at Akpabio: initiate impeachment proceedings against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu or face efforts aimed at removing him from his position as Senate President. Critics argue that the National Assembly has failed to provide sufficient oversight of the executive branch amid concerns over inflation, rising living costs, insecurity, and public dissatisfaction with government policies. Many Nigerians believe the Senate leadership must demonstrate greater independence and accountability. Supporters of the Senate President, however, have dismissed the demands as politically motivated, insisting that Akpabio remains committed to legislative stability and national development. They argue that impeachment is a serious constitutional process that must be based on legal grounds rather than public pressure. Political analysts note that while calls for impeachment have become a recurring feature of Nigeria's democratic landscape, any attempt to remove a sitting president would require broad support within the National Assembly and strict adherence to constitutional procedures. As debates continue, all eyes remain on Akpabio and the Senate leadership. Whether the growing public pressure translates into concrete political action remains uncertain, but the controversy has once again highlighted the deep divisions and strong opinions shaping Nigeria's political environment. The coming weeks are expected to reveal whether Godswill Akpabio will be remove as Senate president on June 30th 2027 or he will initiate the impeachment proceedings of the president of Nigeria before June 30th 2027 as these demands represent a temporary wave of public frustration or the beginning of a larger political movement capable of reshaping the nation's leadership landscape. |
Jagabanfromcali:The Yorubas can try to sabotage peter obi but they will fail woefully because we the igbos will not give the yorubas chance to carry out their sabotaging intentions. |

Yorubas in NDC should watch their backs because we igbos are monitoring them and also observing their every move in NDC to see how they planned to sabotage peter obi because any evil intentions by yorubas towards peter obi will fail and not succeed. |
A Yoruba socio-political group has called on members of the Yoruba community to refrain from encouraging former Labour Party spokesman, Kenneth Okonkwo, to continue his public criticisms of NDC Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi. In a statement issued on Tuesday, the group expressed concern that some yoruba individuals who are politically opposed to Obi may be celebrating and amplifying every criticism directed at the former Anambra State governor, thereby deepening political divisions in the country. According to the group, while Kenneth Okonkwo has the constitutional right to express his political views and disagreements, supporters should avoid turning personal political differences into a sustained campaign against Obi. "We urge our yoruba people not to see Kenneth Okonkwo as a weapon for attacking Peter Obi. Political disagreements are normal in a democracy, but they should not be exploited to create hatred or division among Nigerians," the group's spokesperson said. The organization noted that some political actors and commentators who do not share Obi's political ideology appear eager to use the ongoing disagreement between the two former allies as an opportunity to discredit the NDC Party leader. The group stressed that Nigeria's democracy would benefit more from debates on governance, economic policies, security, and national development rather than personal attacks and political vendettas. It further urged yorubas to stop going to Kenneth okonkwo house to manipulate him to continue his fight against peter obi while urging political supporters across ethnic and regional lines to respect differing opinions while maintaining civility in public discourse. "Whether one supports Peter Obi, Kenneth Okonkwo, or any other political figure, the focus should remain on issues that affect the lives of ordinary Nigerians. We must reject politics of bitterness and embrace constructive engagement," the statement added. The group concluded by calling for unity among Nigerians and warning against attempts to use political disagreements to fuel ethnic or regional tensions ahead of future electoral contests. |
