Former Governor of Ogun State, Gbenga Daniel will have to slug it out the
South West Chairman of Mobilisation and Organization Committee of the
Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Buruji Kashamu over the party’s senatorial
ticket in Ogun East area of the state.
The two political leaders who have shown Interest in the ticket were screened
separately on Thursday at the Secretariat of the party in Abeokuta, the Ogun
State capital.
Speaking with newsmen, the former Governor said his decision to vie for the
seat was borne out of his desire to facilitate federal government presence to
the senatorial district.
Daniel said there is the need to build on some of the projects that could turn
around the fortune of the state facilitated by his administration while in office
from 2003-2011.
He contended that numerous projects initiated by his administration some years
back such as Olokola and the Mega City projects were not given adequate
attention by successive governments.
He argued that the senatorial district has not benefited from the federal
government support because of the inability of those in power to follow up the
project.
“If you remember, while I was Governor of the state, there were quite a number
of projects that we initiated. These are projects that have capacity to turn
around the state in all ramifications and with the best of effort, we all found out
that we still need some form of federal support.
“Unfortunately the government of today has not done enough, possibly because
they are not interested or because they are just not able to get the required
support.
While fielding questions from newsmen after he was screened, Kashamu said he
had worked tirelessly for the party and that he had everything it takes to
contest for the seat.
While arguing that the former governor must step down for him, Kashamu noted
