Nokia Announces N97 Touchscreen Phone! by texazzpete(m): 10:34am On Dec 02, 2008 |
Nokia has a new flagship phone. The N97 packs a 3.5-inch, 640 x 360 pixel (that's a 16:9 aspect ratio) touchscreen display with tactile feedback and QWERTY keyboard into this sliding communicator with an "always open" window to favorite internet or social networking sites. Nokia calls it the "world's most advanced mobile computer." To back up the claim they've dropped in HSDPA, WiFi, and Bluetooth radios, A-GPS, a 3.5-mm headjack, 32GB of onboard memory with microSD expansion (for up to 48GB total capacity), and a battery capable of up to 1.5 days of continuous audio playback or 4.5-hours video. 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss glass and "DVD quality" video capture at 30fps http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/02/nokia-unveils-flagship-n97-phone/ This should be nice! |

Re: Nokia Announces N97 Touchscreen Phone! by 4peace(m): 5:23pm On Dec 02, 2008 |
WHAT DO WANT INFRA FOR. I DON'T LIKE THE PHONE BECAUSE OF THE LOOK(LIKE COMMUNICATOR) AND PROCESSOR |
Re: Nokia Announces N97 Touchscreen Phone! by engrhamid(m): 5:32pm On Dec 02, 2008 |
I don't really fancy infrared too but i knew it can't have all features |
Re: Nokia Announces N97 Touchscreen Phone! by Nobody: 5:41pm On Dec 02, 2008 |
yes it wont ve infrared but go this fast-paced world of ours, who should be talking about infrared? Anyway if u're looking for a COMPLETE phone check out n95. . . i think that phone has everything (infrared, flashlight, radio etc) |
Re: Nokia Announces N97 Touchscreen Phone! by nguage(m): 6:28pm On Dec 02, 2008 |
$700? and there goes my iPhone. |
Re: Nokia Announces N97 Touchscreen Phone! by texazzpete(m): 6:28pm On Dec 02, 2008 |
n.oxide: It's also two years old, built like a brick, lacks touch interface and has abysmal battery life. So yes, it's a superb phone but it isn't perfect. Every Nokia fan should be thinking about getting the N85 instead which is actually way better than the N96. |
Re: Nokia Announces N97 Touchscreen Phone! by DualCore1: 6:50pm On Dec 02, 2008 |
In this age and era, someone is looking 4 infrared as a should-have feature of a nov-2008-announced fone?! Pray tell, would u want it to have a floppy disk drive? Tht'ld b kEwl innit? |
Re: Nokia Announces N97 Touchscreen Phone! by Nobody: 7:11pm On Dec 02, 2008 |
@dual core I'm nt surprised, it seems u now dislike nokia phones esp d n95 due 2 ur recent face off wit pc guru. Sha i'm not a nokia fan, though i'm posting wit a nokia phone SE preferred |
Re: Nokia Announces N97 Touchscreen Phone! by engrhamid(m): 7:22pm On Dec 02, 2008 |
As far as i'm concerned, a phone is two years old is meaningless to me. So far it has all i need, forget that story. If i'm opportuned to sell my n70me n get enough, the phone i'm buying next is n95 |

Re: Nokia Announces N97 Touchscreen Phone! by DualCore1: 1:30pm On Dec 03, 2008 |
honsule, make that N96. N95 would soon go extinct, me thinks. |
Re: Nokia Announces N97 Touchscreen Phone! by ExInferis(m): 2:13pm On Dec 03, 2008 |
naijafan: i think its going to be forcefeedback haptic tech, the sort that vibrates when you tap on the screen. Blackberry has patented its SureType tech, which anyway was flakked. meanwhile anyone seen that Simpsons episode making fun of Apple (Mapple in Springfield), the fanboys and steve jobs (Steve Mobs)? absolutely hilarious, being an Apple person it stung a little but on the whole they really nailed it. unfortunately YouTube pulled it but it should still be there somewhere, like on hulu.com. meanwhile, N95 may now seem like crap, but its one of the best phones Nokia ever made. |
Re: Nokia Announces N97 Touchscreen Phone! by honsule(m): 2:34pm On Dec 03, 2008 |

Re: Nokia Announces N97 Touchscreen Phone! by Nobody: 2:44pm On Dec 03, 2008 |
Honsule n96's unneccesarily expensive and just offers few new features.just wait till a better phone is out. |
Re: Nokia Announces N97 Touchscreen Phone! by Nobody: 2:54pm On Dec 03, 2008 |
The N96 was suppose to succeed N95.but the specs are far lower than its predecessor(N95).but the nokia tube is better since you wanna buy an expensive phone though don't know much it is.

Honsule do you know the price of the PS3? |
Re: Nokia Announces N97 Touchscreen Phone! by ExInferis(m): 4:57pm On Dec 03, 2008 |
pc guru: the 5800 isnt a high-end device in the league of say the N96/N85, and its practically a cheapo given its price tag. its primary appeal is just being the first Nokia S60 touchscreen device. having said that, I'm getting one. so it seems my prediction that Nokia is going for Linux in future high end phones is confirmed (and i did suggest Maemo). the following is from Reuters: "BARCELONA (Reuters) - The world's biggest mobile phone maker, Nokia, could start to use open-source Linux software on its more expensive phone models, a senior company official said on Tuesday. "In the longer perspective, Linux will become a serious alternative for our high-end phones," Ukko Lappalainen, vice president at Nokia's markets unit, told Reuters in an interview on the sidelines of the "Nokia World" industry conference. Linux's role in the handset industry is growing as Google has introduced its Linux-based Android platform, but Lappalainen said Nokia was likely to stick to its own Linux development. Nokia uses Linux maemo software in its niche offering of Internet tablets, while it uses Symbian software for its phones. "I don't see anything in Android which would make it better than Linux maemo," Lappalainen said. (Reporting by Tarmo Virki)" http://www.reuters.com/article/internetNews/idUSTRE4B16IO20081202 |
Re: Nokia Announces N97 Touchscreen Phone! by texazzpete(m): 5:19pm On Dec 03, 2008 |
The N85 is a FAR better deal than the N96. All the features (minus the practically useless DVB-H) for lower price, with a FAR better screen (OLED vs LCD) Also with better battery life and faster processor. |
