It seems you guys has a lot of issue with Jim second wife and not tradition. first son or last, you cannot inherit a man till he is dead. Maybe they should wait till the man is dead before bringing their brother home for burial.
But they should make sure that is his first house built on the land he inherited from his father and not a compound he acquired on his later years.

Now , my cousins are from polygamous home, when the dad died, he the first son was very much alive and inherited their fathers first compound which is a bungalow and not the 3 story building just across the father built in his later year. That was was shared between the two wives first sons. There were no issue with anybody cos that is tradition.
I am not sure you are well rooted. If you are,you won't be saying this or are you one of those. ALAWOTU. Those that never return home.

Her argument is more plausible than yours . . Prove her wrong instead of playing the "Alabuotu" card.

Anyways, Jim's sons are just being foolish . . They will still loose out at the end. SMH.

Mukosolu is the enstranged first wife, her three sons are the first, second and third sons of Nwobodo.

The second wife seem to have a stronghold over Jim, rumour is rife in Amechi that she has a diabolical black magic *grins* influence over Nwobodo,as Nwobodo showers her too much favour, while he treats his sons with disdain.

Amechi Awkunanaw people clearly are sympathetic to the first wife and her sons, and seem to be in support of the two sons action.

Polygamous family Life drama! The hustle is real. No man should marry more than one wife, if he intends to have a chance at peace of mind.

And what is your own arguement. Yours is that a tradition that has stood for centuries will be turned back because of chief jim. You are still a learner. There was a case at Anambra state where a man with three wives willed his obi to the his second son . The said son is first son of his second wife. When the will was made known. His kinsmen challenged the will and refused to accept it. What happened. The will was reversed and first son eventually took his rightful place in the obi. I still maintain. Whether chief jim likes it or not. He can either accept this now or accept it in death. Whether you are a defense counsel for chief jim is a different matter.

whether Jim Nwobodo inherited or bought the land it is his obi. The son that'll inherit the obi is not the first son by birth but the most seniour who is still living when their father die

My friend, you are a joker . . Sometimes, some of you talk like illiterates. Traditionally and legally, Jim has the right to determine whether he wants his dead first son to be buried in his compound, especially when the son died before him. He even acquired a land, built a house on it for the purpose of burying his child, and you guys are here talking rubbish. There is no igbo tradition that says that a dead son must be buried in his father's main compound.

I have a grand uncle whose case also resembles that of Jim. When the first son from the first wife died, he acquired a small land near his Obi (palace), built a bungalow on it and buried his son there. The man is also a high chief from one of the biggest towns in Anambra state.

Jim's sons from the first wife are fighting a losing battle with their father. Foolish Africans!

very correct! And from a 'female', congrts! This aspect of the traditional igbo inheritance system is what I have been sieving the comments here for.

My understanding is that the first child would loss his right to inheritance only if he never had a child, especially a male child. If he was married and had children, no matter how old the children are, the Obi is reserved for those children.

No, your understanding is wrong.

When a first son dies before his father, he loses his claim to first son inheritance to the second son who automatically becomes first son with all the right and privileges that once belonged to the first son that died.

If the first son had a son before he died, his son is only but a grandchild of his( the dead first son's) living father, and would have no direct right to the dead first son's father inheritance.

He would be seen as an appendage by his uncles, and if they be of good heart, they would give him some things out of sympathy and the love they have for his dead father, but if not, he might end up empty handed and the sky would not fall.
