Former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and former military head of state, Gen, Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) are the leading candidates for the All Progressive Congress (APC) presidential primary election. Daily Trust reports. Credible sources in APC told Daily Trust that the two are the front runners for the race but cautioned that the other aspirants are formidable candidates. READ ALSO: APC Blasts PDP Over Guber Primary Other aspirants are the Governor of Kano State Rabiu Kwakwanso; the Publisher of Leadership Newspapers, Sam Nda-Isaiah and Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha. Daily Trust sources affirmed that the states tilting strongly towards Buhari are his home-state of Katsina, Kaduna, Bayelsa, Rivers, Lagos, Borno, Nasarawa, Jigawa, Kwara, Zamfara, Ogun and Osun. While the sources listed Atiku’s support base as Delta, Akwa Ibom, Benue, Yobe, Plateau, Taraba, and his home-state, Adamawa state. Kwankwaso’s base are his home-state of Kano and Kogi state because he is backed by his bosssom friend and former governor of the state, Abubakar Audu. Sam Nda-Isaiah is said to be strong in his home-state of Niger, while Rochas Okorocha’s home state of Imo is secured and he has an edge in other South-East states. For instance, while Atiku Abubakar’s camp has booked 4,000 rooms for his loyalists, Mohammad Buhari’s group has also booked 3,500 rooms for his own loyalists. Other candidates have also done the same for their loyalists. The national leaders of the party are also said to be playing a major role in who emerges as the party’s presidential candidate. Especially its acclaimed National leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. It is still difficult to say who will come out tops in the primaries between the duo. The answer will be known in the next 48 hours. Speaking to the Vanguard, the Director-General of the Atiku Campaign Organisation, Prof. Babalola Borishade said,“To be realistic, I believe that we have 65 – 70 per cent chances of winning.” However,the director of publicity of Buhari Support Group Centre, Dr.Chida Maduekwe told Daily Trust on phone that according to their projections,the former Head of State will have a 70 to 80 percent chance of getting the ticket.
