THE Lagos State Government says it has started massive grading and surface dressing of its inner roads.

It added that the work would complement the over 300 road construction going on across the state.

The Commissioner for Rural Development, Cornelius Ojelabi, during an inspection of some of the roads at the Iba Local Council Development Area, said the government decided to grade the roads as a palliative measure.

He added that the state government could not immediately construct new roads in the areas due to paucity of funds.

He said, “Presently, the state has over 9,000 roads that need to be constructed or upgraded, but the funds are not available. As a result, the government is constructing roads in phases with available resources.

“But the governor approved that the roads should be made motorable for the people by grading them to make commuting easier.”

He said the grading of roads would be done in all the five divisions of the state.

He added that over 100 roads were expected to be graded at the end of the first phase of the exercise.

The commissioner also urged residents of the areas to protect the roads by channeling their wastewater properly into the soakaway in their homes, instead of channeling it to the roads.

“No amount of money spent to construct or grade will show if people don’t desist from the unwholesome habit of channeling wastewater to the roads,” he said.

Ojelabi urged community leaders to ensure that residents channel their wastewater appropriately.

The commissioner was at Adolph Road, Oduduwa Street, Funsho Bakare Street, Akanni Ogundare Street, Olubiyi Street, Orelope Street and Lateef Ogunyoro Street, among others, to inspect the level of work done on the road grading.

my brother please advice tinubu and fashola that grading of road in ojo local govt in lagos in this 21st century is an eyesore. Pouring of red mud every where in lagos that will not cost them anything is wickedness of the highest order. Whenever it rains in these places then their will be no going out for that day. Durring the dry season dust from the red mud will athourmatically turn everything to red mud which is also an eyesore.
