I wanted to reach out and stab him in the chest. It took me every muscle in my body to restrain myself. Plus, I didn’t have a knife. How did I come so close to committing murder? Let me take you all the way back to the beginning. It all started with a kiss (literally)…

As his lips unlocked from mine, there were a few seconds of loss where my head was still spinning and I wasn’t quite aware of my environment.

“Are you OK?” he asked with a chuckle


“Yes…yes” I’m fine I replied

“Let me take you to breakfast tomorrow” he said. It was more of a statement than a question. Before I could respond he continued, “There’s a really nice restaurant on Akin Adesola. They open really early. I’ll pick you up by 8am.”

He picked up his files from my desk, turned around and walked away.

I didn’t even get to tell him that I had a dental appointment by 9am the next morning and I wouldn’t even be coming in to work.

“Hay girl! What you up to?” Oluchi, my housemate came bouncing into my room like she does every evening after work “Who you calling?’ she asked in her ‘you know I never mind my business’ tone of voice

“Trying to reach my dentist on the phone,” I replied

“What? By this time?? You KNOW the clinic would be closed by now right?” She asked

“Yes but he gave me his personal number for emergencies” I replied, frantically dialing Dr Dare’s number again and again.

“Oh! There’s an emergency? What’s wrong?” She asked with a worried look on her face.

“Tunde finally asked me out on a date. He asked me to have breakfast with him tomorrow. Well actually he TOLD me to to have breakfast with him tomorrow. Anyway, the point is I can’t afford to miss it. So I have to reschedule my dental appointment”

Oluchi stared at me like I just told her a huge rat has been living under my bed.

“Urrrhhh… Lola, a date with a hot guy from work hardly counts as an emergency” She said “You’ve been complaining about this tooth ache for weeks. Why don’t you just go for your appointment and meet up with him later? Besides, you wont be able to do much eating with your aching teeth”

“Maybe I should send Dr Dare a text…” I said to myself

Oluchi sighed. “Ok. How about Dotun?” she asked

“Who’s that?” I asked distractedly, typing on my phone twenty words per minute

“Are you kidding me? The guy you said sent flowers to your office the other day!”

“Oh THAT Dotun,” I said, suddenly remembering who she was referring to. “Abeg leave that guy jor. All he sends me are flowers. Am I a goat?”
