The Trouble With The Buhari Manifesto BY ABIMBOLA ADELAKUN by Nobody: 12:26pm On Jan 01, 2015 |
Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari’s manifesto caught my interest because of the mantra of “change” his party has been chanting. For Buhari and his All Progressives Congress, “change” is their theory of everything – that isthe ideology that undergirds their various propositions for the country. There is therefore no better place to confirm their commitment to change than their manifesto.www.punchng.com/opinion/viewpoint/the-trouble-with-the-buhari-manifesto/ 144 Likes 22 Shares |

Just like the author of this piece states, Buhari is a disaster waiting to happen. Cluelessness will not be enough to describe this man. 135 Likes 7 Shares |

Buhari is obviously not in government, so I expect him to be oblivious of certain realities. You can't describe how the sitting room is from outside the house. The real problem arrives when you can't describe the sitting room from inside... 115 Likes 10 Shares |

Buhari had this same manifesto in 2011. When it came time for the presidential debate, he was so badly prepared I realised he never read the document as he could not answer intelligently questions whose answers were right in the manifesto. Even if he read it, illiteracy will make it impossible for him to understand it talk less of articulate it. Imagine Hausa Fulani endorsing true federalism and devolution of power. Aburi acord comes to mind. 107 Likes 9 Shares |

Where does he expect the money to fund these lofty ideas to come from considering Nigeria’s mono-economy is currently experiencing a downturn? He'll borrow now. That's all he knows how to do 36 Likes 1 Share |

Nobody expects PDP agents to like the well articulated Manifesto. But they are all happy with Jonathan's inability to present to Nigerians his plans for seeking re-election. Nigerians are unitedly voting Buhari for Change. We can no long dwell under the burden of Corruption. Sai Buhari. 114 Likes 9 Shares |

Another paid bigoted writer. In one sentence, he praises the manifesto and in another sentence he was asking for details of good agenda. Should he not know that programs will come during execution phase? Talk of looking for dirt in distilled water! 43 Likes 3 Shares |

I am.sorry but the writer is shallow in his analysis. Instead of tackling the actual points in the manifesto and providing alternatives..... he's just using bogus words to make a watery conclusion of negativity. I'm even curious to know his background. I have more research to do... We shall get to the bottom of this matter. By the way, GEJ's New Year speech this morning is bereft of ideas. There was nothing on his plans (if any) for Power, Refining, Security and on tackling Corruption. That's the manifesto PDP has for 2015. 66 Likes 3 Shares |

Buhari is totally lacking in idea of running a democratic style of government. He is a socialist just like an average core-muslim. He has a plan of social welfare program for poor so that he will steal the money from Niger delta states to feed millions of hausa-fulani urchins. Here in eastern nIgeria,we do not want social welfare program. We need a good ground to bring up idea and make as much money as we need. Buhari will be better as a governor of northern state and not a president of Nigeria. 101 Likes 12 Shares |

egift:well articulated yet fraught with gramatical errors.. Well articulated yet exhumed and repackaged from 2011 without considering the changing times and conditions. I think you should be worried more about the writer's negative assertions and provide answers to them 51 Likes 4 Shares |

Buhari is not the messiah As the author said Buhari's plan did not create a platform for citizens contribution If Buhari thinks we would accept the era of monkey(ND) dey work baboon(Arewa) they chop based on our oil wealth, then he is in for a rude and brute shock SW youths This below is what you guys need and not VP position 1) Resource Control 2) Fiscal Federalism 3) Privatization 4) Political Federalism 5) Decentralization of Nigeria 6) Restructuring of Nigeria 6) Institutions giving detail account of their financial/other activities to the public through their websites/panels for public scrutiny every 3months. Which are the fastest route to I) economic diversification, ii) citizenry prosperity iii) political stability iv) reduce corruption These 7 points are the basis of True Federalism which can help Nigeria become a Super Power and a first world Nation. 53 Likes 5 Shares |

Well done - you have done well They are all politicians but we are no longer gullible The part that's so funny is how he will persecute corruption and eliminate it - unleSs he starts killing them without honouring the court system or kidnap them the way he kidnapped Dikko. This is democracy and rule of law must take it's stand. GEJ has given the court it's independence and has never interfered so it's left to the judiciary to do it's job To the APC ewarriors pls ask your pay masters how their representative will tackle corruption and distribute the thousands of Naira to Nigerians 36 Likes |

LRNZH: why do you need to know thw writers background. Am guessing you feel every Swesterner must reason the way you do right? Mr Abimbola has raised salient questions as to the viability and workabilty of Buhari's manifesto. What are buhari sets of action plans to acheive this goals. How does he intend to go about fulfilling all this juicy promises? Does he have the ready answers to all Nigeria's ails and how does he wish to convince us that he is really abreast with the issues confronting the nation. All we see yet again in this exhumed manifesto are just the usual campaign promises without substance of action 30 Likes |

thekingsmen: You're the one with a sectarian tint. You're thinking SW and religion when you hear background. What makes you think I'm from the SW? By background I mean her experience and education. Her analysis is weak to be honest. While stating what she feels about the manifesto, she did not focus on the points in the manifesto and how it should be presented, strength and weakness. You do not critique objectively without providing alternatives. It maybe that packaging her argument coherently is not her strong point. Lest I forget, you're silent on GEJ’s New Year speech. Like I stated, I'll try to dig more on this manifesto matter. 11 Likes |

@passingshot I think you are unfair to the author. She is a regular columnist on the backpage of the Punch on Thursdays. I'm a frequent reader of her opinion pieces and I can say with full confidence that she is an unbiased, nuetral political commentator. She has consistently criticised the Jonathan administration so I doubt she is a paid hack. Instead of shooting the messenger rather look at the message. Buhari should up his game and gain more insight on the workings of the nigerian economy. Only by doing this can we the citizens be convinced that we can entrust GMB with our mandate as a viable alternative to this poor pdp government PassingShot: 33 Likes |
