2015: Why Ndi Igbo Are Angry With Jonathan – Uko by LRNZH(m): 2:50am On Jan 06, 2015

MAJORITY of South-East and Igbo votes may not go to President Goodluck Jonathan in the February 14 presidential polls contrary to expectations unless the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) takes the complaints of the zone seriously, Founder of the Igbo Youth Movement (IYM) and Deputy Secretary of the Igbo Leaders of Thought (ILT), Evangelist Elliot Uko, has said.
To make amends and continue to enjoy the support of the Igbo, Uko urged President Jonathan to unveil his plans and blueprint and what he had done for the zone in the last six years.

In an interview with Vanguard, Uko said the polls would be fierce but assured that ‘’This time around, Ndigbo will vote right, we have learned painfully over the years that if we vote right, it will be well for everybody. Ndigbo do not want to make mistakes any more.’’

Asked if Ndigbo might abandon Jonathan this time, he said: ”I can’t say that, but I know that Ndigbo are angry with Jonathan. They think he is held hostage by a cabal. They wonder if it makes sense to put Nigeria in the hands of a man who is held prisoner and is easily manipulated by his aides.

” They say his presidency costs Ndigbo a lot as most Nigerians see him as using Ndigbo’s turn, they are also angry with his aides who lie a lot both to Ndigbo and to the man himself. Most of these very respectable individuals and credible groups from the Southeast, tell me they think Jonathan is taking Ndigbo for a ride. The characters who have convinced him that they will deliver Igbo land to him 100 per cent are the ones who might bring him down. While the APC is working hard on the Southeast, the PDP is busy boasting of easy victory.

”This might end up a very tough contest. These Igbo groups who tell me they will not support Jonathan again are not agents of APC, they are traditional Jonathan supporters who feel aggrieved at the way the PDP is behaving. They know Jonathan means well, they know he is a Godly man but they believe he trusts his aides too much and they have blocked him away from reality.

”Whether these accusations are true or not I don’t really know. People are also angry at the stupendous empowerment of ex-militants’ leaders who have all become emergency billionaires, they are all said to be acquiring estates overseas in order to become political god fathers.

”If these allegations are true, then, it is very wrong. Our people are asking, what are the score cards? They are wondering about whatever happened to the promised coal-powered power plants, 2nd Niger bridge, Onitsha sea port, Oguta seaport, Aba inland container terminal, etc.

Everybody knows that the 45 million Ndigbo can save him with their bloc votes or bring him down when Igbo votes are split. The clowns who are Jonathan’s arrowhead in Igboland are busy offending everybody by their arrogance which clearly stems from over-confidence while politicians are busy trading off Ndigbo for their personal deals as everybody is positioning for a slice of the cake. All these mean that the PDP must not take Igboland for granted. The election is just six weeks away and there is so much anger.

”Ndigbo want some respect and dignity. The people deceiving Jonathan in Abuja cannot deliver Igboland to him as they claim, they don’t have the credibility to be followed sheepishly, moreover Ndigbo want to see Jonathan’s blue print to move Nigeria forward. People want to know his agenda for the next dispensation.’’

Wow! When it would seem that jona would sweep the southeast. Interesting.

I like that this article is on a national paper as widely regarded as Vanguard. So that when our southeastern brothers read it, they're going to have a rethink and make informed decisions, rather than vote on mere religious and ethnic sentiments. God bless Nigeria.

That was exactly what Buhari thought in 2011 when he failed to campaign in the se/ss and see whert that got him. There are actually more igbos outside the se than within the se.That is why when you ignoramuses post figures of voters from each states and gloat over your supposed numerical superiority, I just laugh

Ndi Igbo need to spread their bets. Relying on GEJ and PDP alone is hedging their bets on one option alone. If that ship sinks, they go down en masse.

Sticking with GEJ/PDP has killed APGA. They should have joined APC during the coalition and had a say in choosing positions within APC.
The worst part is the Igbos are encouraging the tagging of GEJ's presidency as an Igbo one. The implications are profound- no Igbo Presidency again after GEJ until it goes round all other geopolitical zones. This is extremely foolish by all standards.

If GMB wins, which is likely, the Igbos may have politically checkmated themselves by sticking to GEJ/PDP.
GMB needs SE votes as much as they need him and APC.
I suggest Ohanaeze or APGA gets into some secret understanding with GMB and APC for this elections.
Thats a sure banker presidency for GMB with about 45 million SE votes.
This way they get something meaningful out of all these.

Edit: SE has ~7 Million Eligible Voters not 45 Million. Na typo. grin

GMB 2015 On Course.

What is the bigotry in asking an "acclaimed" anti-corruption crusader how he enlisted into the officer cadet of the Nigerian army without having the requisite qualifications?

So you are saying if Buhari enlisted into the army with forged credentials we should ignore it?

Continue to dream on dude.GEJ is already APGA's presidential candidate so no need hoping on any mumu deal.

What did Buhari do for the igbos during his first spell in office? Is it keeping shagari under house arrest and locking up Ekwueme and Ojukwu in jail?

How come the north in their decades of rule not deem it fit to build any international airport in the east or make any igbo man coas? You want us to join Buhari and Tinubu's private project and end up been used and dumped like Amaechi

At the bolded, you forgot to tell us about how many of his Hausa/Fulani brothers he sent to prison. By the way where did Umar Dikko from? In your bigoted mind he must be from Imo or Abia. The man he drugged and crated in a box.

You rather sink with GEJ than float with GMB is your assertion.
Same way you mention GMB's perceived mistreatment of Alex Ekwueme's is the same way I will remind you of GMB's commendation and elevation of Dora Akunyili.
I've forgotten the chief's name but the first crude oil lifting license to a local was to an Igbo man by GMB against all odds.
Edit: Chief Anyam-Osigwe is the name.

There are no permanent enemies but permanent interests in life.
The igbos generally do a poor job of being a pressure group and playing the politics of requesting for Gov't presence in the SE.

Instead of being headstrong like Okonkwo in Achebe's great book, calm down and play the politics.

Which official record said Igbo has 45million voters in SE? Lol. Igbos all over the world combined are not up to 45million.

Igbo vote in Yorubaland is counted as SW vote, not SE vote. The only time I love Igbo is during election. Regardless of their party affiliatiin their swell give us political advantage and bargaining privilege against SE, SS, NE, NC and NW.

It may already be too late for SE. That may be the reason some people would rather sink with GEJ. They'd rather look for any excuse no matter how silly or baseless not to vote GMB.
I was told by a very respectable role model of mine that in life, their is no permanent enemy nor permanent friend - only permanent interest. You build bridges to save your interest. For example, the US interest in middle east is Israel. To preserve/secure that interest, the US build bridges and made many arab (SAUDI being the chief) countries her allies. The same US many Nigerians see as a near-perfect country has Saudi (a country many Nigerians see as the home of evil) as her biggest ally in the middle east.

SE has the least number of voters, the least number of states (and by extension the least number of governors), the least number of senators, the least number of local gov. the least number of rep members. Yet not only do they refuses to build bridges to the north and west, they even foolishly create enemies (lagos deportation is a classic example). If there is a debate in senate today about whether igbo has used their presidency turn going by their support for gej, igbo will lose out because they are the least in numbers and made very little allies if any.
It will be interesting to see how only SE votes can produce an Igbo presidency.

This is why Igbo is pokitically in disadvantage. The only vote that count as Igbo is that in SE, regardless of party you vote for. Of all the regions you have the least headcount and least registered voters.

So where is your advantage....where is your appeal? None!

Uko shouldleave those charlatans who call themselves Igbo leaders alone;they think they know Igbo land better than every other person.
Many true Igbo sons, daughters and groups are beginning to sit down and analyse d GEJ presidency very well and they av come to d same conclusion that I have:that d gej presidency is the greatest scam ever played on the Igbo Nation since the colonialists traded her sons and daughters for hair combs and mirrors!
On Feb 14,many Igbo electorate would rather stay at home rather than vote in GEJ and a number greater than predicted, but maybe not enough to give him a majority vote, would vote GMB.
Let them continue deceiving Gej until he sees himself in the creeks of otuoke after may 29,2015
