You engine takes both synthetic as well as semi-synthetic oil. 10W-40 viscosity. Recommended brands are: Fuchs TITAN XTR 10W/40 High Performance Semi-Synthetic Engine Oil Mobil Super S 10W-40 Semi Synthetic Motor Oil Motul 6100 Synergie+ 10W-40 Gasoline and Diesel engine oil Technosynthese Castrol Magnatec 10W-40 Semi-Synthetic Engine Oil meets ACEA A3/B3 All the above, bar the Castrol come in 5-litre sizes, Castrol comes in 4-litre. Considering your 2,4 (118kW - 4G69) engine takes a tad under 6 litres, (5,8 litres) I'd be inclined to go for any bar the 4-litre Castrol. The Castrol @ 4 litres costs more than the other 5-litre brands. You'll only need to buy an extra litre to make up the quantity your engine needs, if you buy Castrol, you'll need 2 more litres! The oil grades listed are for US / UK cars, Nigeria is hotter than most parts of the US, but the 2,4 engine, even operating in Nigerian climates will never reach a point where the 10W-40 oil will be broken down by high operating temperatures, the 2,4 engine isn't high-revving enough. The same grade is used in Texas and Arizona, and it's not an issue there either. |

Thanks a lot Sienna, Can I get these oil grades readily in the market? I have been using the car for about a year now and I have serviced it twice with mobil oil. The car drives great and I am really enjoying it. What is the recommended frequency of servicing and oil change for the car? Thx |

Wale, those oil brands should be easily sourced in Nigeria. I'd recommend Mobil 1, though it seems you've already been using Mobil products. As for service intervals, it's pretty much listed here: miles recommended service 7,500 1 item to Change, 1 item to Replace, 1 item to Service / Inspect 15,000 1 item to Service / Inspect, 2 items to Inspect, 1 item to Replace, 1 item to Change 22,500 1 item to Service / Inspect, 1 item to Replace, 1 item to Change 30,000 2 items to Replace, 11 items to Inspect, 2 items to Change, 1 item to Service / Inspect 37,500 1 item to Change, 1 item to Service / Inspect, 1 item to Replace 45,000 1 item to Service / Inspect, 2 items to Inspect, 1 item to Replace, 1 item to Change 52,500 1 item to Replace, 1 item to Change, 1 item to Service / Inspect 60,000 3 items to Change, 1 item to Service / Inspect, 13 items to Inspect, 2 items to Replace 67,500 1 item to Service / Inspect, 1 item to Replace, 1 item to Change 75,000 1 item to Replace, 2 items to Inspect, 1 item to Change, 1 item to Service / Inspect 82,500 1 item to Change, 1 item to Replace, 1 item to Service / Inspect 90,000 2 items to Change, 2 items to Replace, 1 item to Service / Inspect, 11 items to Inspect 97,500 1 item to Service / Inspect, 1 item to Replace, 1 item to Change 105,000 2 items to Inspect, 3 items to Replace, 1 item to Change, 1 item to Service / Inspect 112,500 1 item to Change, 1 item to Service / Inspect, 1 item to Replace 120,000 2 items to Replace, 13 items to Inspect, 1 item to Service / Inspect, 3 items to Change 127,500 1 item to Change, 1 item to Replace, 1 item to Service / Inspect 135,000 1 item to Change, 1 item to Replace, 1 item to Service / Inspect, 2 items to Inspect 142,500 1 item to Service / Inspect, 1 item to Replace, 1 item to Change 150,000 1 item to Service / Inspect, 2 items to Change, 2 items to Replace, 11 items to Inspect 157,500 1 item to Change, 1 item to Service / Inspect, 1 item to Replace 165,000 1 item to Service / Inspect, 1 item to Change, 2 items to Inspect, 1 item to Replace 172,500 1 item to Replace, 1 item to Service / Inspect, 1 item to Change 180,000 2 items to Replace, 1 item to Service / Inspect, 13 items to Inspect, 3 items to Change 187,500 1 item to Replace, 1 item to Service / Inspect, 1 item to Change 195,000 1 item to Service / Inspect, 2 items to Inspect, 1 item to Change, 1 item to Replace To go more indepth, take a look at this link: http://www.driverside.com/servicing/mitsubishi-outlander-2008-5644-13072-0 It's a newer model, but give or take, it will be pretty similar to your 2003 model. |

Thanks Sienna, you could help me investigate for both 120,000 and 127,000 cos the mileage on the car is just above 126,000 as at this morning. I bought it at about 100,000 and I didnt do the checks recommended in your post. Thanks once again. |

Siena I drive a 2004 Kia Sorento mileage is about 65000 it is a 3.5 L V6 bought it last year but I dont think I am using the right oil cos it seems like the oil drys up faster than it should I guess the oil I am using is too light I would like u to give me some pointers for the best oil I could use. |
Re: Sienna, Jenju: What Is The Best Oil For My Suv? by Nobody: 10:00pm On Dec 17, 2008 |
Zorro, what grade oil are you using? I can't imagine an engine so young, with so little miles should be so thirsty. You could even run 5W-40, and it should be fine. Whatever oil you use, don't run a 30-weight oil, like 5W-30 or 10W-30 - too thin. 10W-40 is recommended, but if it's using it so quickly, then I'd advise running 15W-40. 20W-50 is thicker, and won't do any harm, however, it'll take longer to reach optimum operating temperature, and thus will offer less lubrication if you use too high RPM when cold. 20W-50 is generally recommended for older, hig-mileage engines. My car has covered 215,000 miles, and still doesn't consume oil, so between my oil change intervals (6,000 miles) I don't need to top-up. I'm running 10W-40 semi-synthetic. |

Hello Sienna, Top of the morning to you. I fairly recently purchased a 2005 Honda Accord 2.4L L4 engine. It is my first car and I intend using for a loooooong while so continuous maintenance is at the very top of my list. It had about 123k miles on it when I purchased it in April and now it has about 126k miles. My question(s) is: 1. What is the best oil to use? (The manual says 5W-20 , but does that also apply for Naija weather and at the current mileage) 2. What is the ideal mileage/time between oil changes? 3. Ideal mileage between transmission fluid change and what brand/type of transmission fluid is best? 4. Any other maintenance tips you can give would be highly appreciated. Thanks in adavance. |
