Is Asiwaju Tinubu Becoming Modern-day AFONJA? by Aksonman: 10:43am On Jan 15, 2015 |
I bumped into this TRIBUNE article about the historical role played by Afonja in Oyo empire and Ilorin, changing Yorubaland for ever. Somehow, I noticed interesting similarities with what is going on today; is Tinubu on the verge of playing the "Afonja" role in the Nigeria empire? In this scenario, Ilorin represents APC, and Oyo empire represents Nigeria Enjoy this read. Ilorin was a small town in the Oyo Empire by the beginning of the 19th century. Afonja, Baale of Ilorin, who also held the title of Are Ona Kakanfo of the Oyo Empire, rebelled against his king, the Alafin of Oyo, in 1817. (There is no space here for the reasons for his rebellion). In order to sustain his rebellion, he was desperate to build a large and powerful army. To that end, he did a number of desperate things. http://tribune.com.ng/columns/backpage/diran-apata-s-sunday-message/item/2843-historical-facts-about-ilorin-and-kwara-yoruba/2843-historical-facts-about-ilorin-and-kwara-yoruba |

This pieace of write up is an insult to afonja. Afonja never stole from the people contineously. Afonja never impose his family and inlaws on people. Afonja never tell lies. Afonja never fell sick like agric fowl. 1 Like |

Monimatic: Buhari had better be very careful. This false humility was what Tinubu used to destroy AD and caused division among the old generation of Yoruba leaders. When he was done with them they simply slidded into political oblivion and he became a 'god father' and 'kingmaker'. |
