Ahead of the 2015 general election: understanding where we came from.

Most countries were borne out of shared ideas and common identify, Nigeria was created to fulfil a business requirement - that of supplying goods and services to the Great Britain.

In 1900, Britain officially assumed responsibility for the administration of the whole of what we now know as Nigeria from the Niger company. And gradually, British protectorates were spread all over the territory. In 1914, the territories were amalgamated into one Nigeria. In other to take over the territory from the company, the British government paid the sum of €865,000 - a huge amount at that time. Incidentally, the Niger company is still around today, but known by a different name - UNILEVER.
