FLYING EAGLES 3-3 DREAM TEAM The Flying Eagles and Dream Team ended the LMC Super 4 without a defeat after both teams played out a scintillating 3-3 draw at the Abuja National Stadium on Sunday evening as the curtain fell on the tournament meant to keep the country’s representatives in top shape ahead of continental assignments. The national U20 side got their goals via Prince Aggrey, Bernard Bulbwa and Chiderah Ezeh in the 28th, 54th and 74th minutes while the Dream Team relied on the goals of Peter Onyekachi and a brace from Oghenekaro Etebo in the 32nd, 45th and 66th minutes of the explosive encounter. Coach Manu Garba restored Joshua Enahoro to the starting XI after he benched the goalkeeper for Olorunleke Ojo in the last game with Dolphins and he also handed shirts to Musa Mohammed, Akinjide Idowu, Obinna Nwobodo, Prince Aggrey, Bernard Bulbwa and Taiwo Awoniyi while Samson Siasia overhauled the side that played the previous four games. Most of the players that travelled to Tunisia for a two-game foreign tour of the North African country started the match with Emmanuel Daniel, Azubuike Okechukwu, Erhum Obanor, Tiongoli Tonbra, Oghenekaro Etebo and Ajayi Oluwafemi among others on duty for the U23 team. The Flying Eagles had the upper hand in the early exchange and it was not a surprise that the team got the curtain raiser in the 28th minute after a great build up from Awoniyi who gave a defence slipping pass to Aggrey for the Sunshine Stars’ striker to shoot beyond the reach of Daniel in goal for the Dream Team. But it took only four minutes for the U23s to bounce back with the equalizer through Onyekachi whose left foot strike kept U20 goalie, Enahoro confused. The Dream Team went ahead in the 45th minute after the centre referee awarded them a penalty as U20 defender, Zaharadeen Bello was adjudged to have committed an infringement in the 18-yard box and Etebo converted the resultant spot kick. The first half ended 2-1 in favour of the Siasia-tutored lads. But about nine minutes after the resumption of the second half, Bulbwa's half volley ended at the back of the net despite desperate attempts from Etebo to ensure that the ball did not cross the line. The U23 side was back in ascendancy again in the 66th minute after Warri Wolves’ Etebo stabbed home the third goal for his side but the Flying Eagles showed they still had so much in their armoury as they got the equalizer in the 74th minute through FC Porto youth teamer, Ezeh after the striker planted a good pass from his captain, Mohammed beyond the reach of Daniel. The Flying Eagles finished the Super Four on top with 13 points while the Dream Team ended the campaign with nine points. Kano Pillars, Enyimba, Warri Wolves and Dolphins were third, fourth, fifth and sixth. KANO PILLARS FC 1-0 ENYIMBA FC League champions Kano Pillars gained bragging rights over Enyimba whom they pipped to the premier league title last season after they beat the People’s Elephant 1-0 at the Abuja National Stadium on Sunday through the strike of Christian Obiozor. In the final game of the Super Four, Pillars and Enyimba had a lot to play for with the winner guaranteed third place at the end of the tournament. Sai Masugida exerted their superiority over the Aba Millionaires when it mattered most again as their narrow win displaced Enyimba to fourth on the table at the end of the tournament. Both teams struggled to exert themselves on the game but it was Pillars that had the upper hand with the opening goal in the 40th minute through Obiozor for his fourth goal of the tournament and there proved to be none afterwards. DOLPHINS 1-2 WARRI WOLVES The Port Harcourt side saved the best for last but still lost against the Seasiders to end the Super Four with a 100 percent loss after they were beaten 2-1 by Warri Wolves in the final game of the tournament played on Sunday at the Abuja National Stadium. Unlike the previous four games, Dolphins came out to play and even led possession before taking a shock lead against the run of play in the fifth minute through Onyekachi Akakem , a defender who got his first goal on his debut for his team after a good assist from Victor Alegbe. The Stanley Eguma tutored side further threatened to wreck more havoc in the 13th minute after an audacious attempt from Emeka Atuloma from about 45 metres almost rested at the back of the Seasiders’ net before Okeimute Odah tracked back to tip the shot over the bar. Warri Wolves also had a golden chance to level proceedings in the 34th minute when Ikechukwu Ibenegbu opted to slip the ball underneath the legs of Dolphins’ goaltender, Sunday Rotimi. The ageless goalie managed to block the shot before one of his defenders intercepted for a goal-line clearance and danger was averted. Paul Aigbogun's Wolves were not to be denied an equalizer not too long after Sikiru Adewale netted his third goal of the Super Four in the 35th minute. He smashed a right footed shot past stranded Dolphins’ goaltender, Rotimi before Abu Azeez put the icing on the cake for the Seasiders’ winning goal in the 89th minute. Dolphins had another man sent off for a second bookable offence in the 58th minute after Atuloma got his second yellow card of the match and it was the club’s third red card offence in the last two games. The Port Harcourt side prodded the table with no points but they had their second goal of the tournament against Wolves after they had gone the opening three games without any goals. |

Awoniyi grabs N200,000 as Super Four MVP The Flying Eagles star has been voted the best player of the just concluded NPFL pre-season following his role in his team's triumph Nigeria U-20 forward Taiwo Awoniyi has emerged as the Most Valuable Player of the 2015 Super Four tournament and he has been rewarded with N200,000 by the League Management Company after helping the Flying Eagles to victory. Awoniyi pipped Christian Obiozor of Kano Pillars, the highest goals scorer of the tournament, to the award. Obiozor's sublime goals were the highlights of Sai Masugida's outing at the pre-season tournament. The Kalmar of Sweden striker scored two goals and provided several assists in his side’s romp to success in the Super Four as the U20s won four out of five games played. Awoniyi will be hoping to repeat his sterling performance in the 2015 African Youth Championship where Manu Garba’s lads are placed in Group A alongside hosts Senegal, Congo and Cote d'Ivoire. They will hope to emerge champions as well as secure a place at the Fifa World Youth Championship billed for New Zealand. 1 Like
