According to people wey too sabi, Katsaridaphobia na the fear of cockroaches.

Now, most people do find roaches to be disgusting and creepy. However, people with the phobia of roaches take this fear to the extreme. This is not the typical “bugs are gross” response that so many people have towards cockroaches. People with Katsaridaphobia have very severe responses to cockroaches, which will be discussed further on in this article.

Symptoms of Katsaridaphobia
Symptoms of Katsaridaphobia will vary from person to person, depending on their personality characteristics and state of mind. Furthermore, Katsaridaphobia sufferers can have any number of triggers, from actual cockroaches to just a simple photo of one. This and the severity of symptoms depend on the level of fear a person has.

Generally, symptoms of Katsaridaphobia include extreme fear of cockroaches, and just generally feeling uncomfortable or anxious when exposed to cockroaches, or any environment that they may dwell in.

If the level of fear is high enough, exposure may cause a panic attack. Panic attacks are heightened levels of fear and anxiety during which the sufferer experiences a variety of physical symptoms. These symptoms include rapid heart beat, difficulty breathing, weakness, fainting, dizziness, tingling or numbness in the hands, an extreme sense of terror, feeling a loss of
control, and chest pain.

I read an article titled 'Cockroaches: The insect we're programmed to fear' on BBC website. It is too long, no need posting it here. Check the link here http://www.bbc.com/future/story/20140918-the-reality-about-roaches

Few excerpts

Andrew Stein, a computer programmer who grew up in New Orleans but now lives in New York, also recalls once being trapped by a roach. One night in his newly renovated Brooklyn apartment, he heard a familiar scratch-scratch-scratch coming from the bathroom. “This was not a place I was expecting to see a bunch of insects,” he says. “But I thought, ‘That sounds like it could be a cockroach.’”

Investigating, he found a large American cockroach clinging to his bath towel. He spent the next two hours camped out in the hallway, trying to work up the courage to go back inside and kill the roach. When his roommate came home at around 2am, however, Stein saw a better way out: he paid his roommate $10 to dispose of the roach rather than face it himself. “That’s probably the most emasculating thing I’ve ever told anyone,” he says.

Roaches invade our homes and make those intimate spaces their own. As physical embodiments of filth and germs, they show that for all of our fortifications against dirt and disease, those efforts are ultimately futile. “They’ve really figured out how to exploit the opportunities we create, and in doing so, developed behaviours and life histories that prevent us from controlling them,” says Jeff Lockwood, a professor of natural sciences and humanities at the University of Wyoming. “In a sense, we loathe that which we foster.” Our very existence enables them to thrive.

Dirty, creepy, irritating things.

Nasty too.

But then again, those roaches are a measure of one's cleanliness and hygiene standards.

We dey o.

Just dey maintain the Katsaridaphobia. Horrible things. I think the worst piece of information i heard was that cockroaches can live with their heads cut off for up to 2 weeks and they can survive for months without food. I hate roaches.
