Cambridge Agency Confirm Buhari
Studied Hausa.
As far as rumours and questions
around the educational certificate of
the presidential candidate of the All
Progressives Congress (APC) General
Muhammadu Buhari don’t stop, the
University of Cambridge Local
Examinations Syndicate (UCLES),
currently known as Cambridge
Assessment, has confirmed that Hausa
language was among the other
subjects offered in 1961.
Cambridge Assessment made the
revelation in an answer to an email
investigation by Naij.com asking the
agency to validate the secondary school
certificate result, which was released by
Government College Katsina.
The agency rejected to reveal the Buhari’s
personal achievements, stating that the
agency answers only to appeals that come
directly from exam applicants.

“ We can only confirm or verify results
at the direct request of or with the
permission of a candidate. This is in
accordance with the provisions of the
Data Protection Act 1998 and section
40 of the Freedom of Information Act
2000 ,” Cambridge Assessment explained .
In their email, the agency said that
“Hausa” was accessible as a subject in
their exams in 1961.
It is said in a statement: “ The
organisation also confirmed that
according to the Regulations for 1961,
African Language papers, including
those for Hausa were set for the West
African School Certificate.”

Cambridge Assessment is a not-for-profit
organisation. It was the precursor of the
West African Examination Council (WAEC)
that today gives the General Certificate of
Education to students who pass their
secondary school certificate exams.

The inquiry was held because of the
claims and suggestions by opponents of
General Buhari, comprising officials of the
ruling Peoples Democratic Party and
online critics, that the certificate results
published by the APC presidential
candidate were fake
.
General Buhari was forced to address
journalists on Wednesday, January 21 st ,
to debunk rumours which were accusing
him
of no education.
So APC presidential candidate asked his
secondary school to issue his results to
the public.
A.A. Adeyinka, a professor of educational
foundations at the University of Ilorin and
some other persons had claimed that
Hausa was not offered as a subject in
WASC exams until the 1970s.
