In a quest to win the war against Islamist terrorist group, Boko Haram, President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday, January 26, 2015 has expressed confidence that there will be delivery of new weapons to the Nigerian military this week and this according to the president, will move faster in two weeks’ time towards halting insurgency in the country.
The president made this disclosure while paying a courtesy visit to the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Gambari, in his palace as Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential campaign kicked off today in the North-Central region of the country with Kwara State being the first stop.
This Day reports that President Jonathan in his statement assured Nigerians that the current Boko Haram insurgency will be curbed in the coming weeks.
In his words; “You have observed us for the past four years. Yes, we have security challenges relating to the Boko Haram saga mainly in the North-east although their excesses extend to some parts of the North like Abuja, Sokoto, Gombe and Kano. But it is mainly in the North-east. We are working hard and we shall surely bring it to a halt.
“As far as the military is concerned, even as we are talking, we are expecting more platforms this week and next week.
“I believe that in the next two weeks or so, we will be able to move faster than we are moving.
“We have intervened in so many areas; agriculture that touches the life of an ordinary Nigerian is one of the areas that we have been working very hard.
“We are trying to move agriculture to the next level; a level that young graduates will be able to embrace” Jonathan said.
Meanwhile, a new rise to the Boko Haram attack on Monguno Barracks has it that, the Nigerian military were informed of an impending attack on Monguno barracks, yet the soldiers in the area were taken by surprise.
