The Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, Ekiti State chapter has said that the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Major General Mohammadu Buhari (rtd) does not believe in the unity and oneness of Nigeria.

The Ekiti State chapter of Afenifere also lauded the endorsement of President Goodluck Jonathan’s reelection by the Afenifere, saying; "Those interested in the restructuring of Nigeria must support the President’s reelection because he had the courage to convoke the national conference and he has promised to implement the report."

In a release issued in Ado Ekiti on Sunday, and signed by Chief A. Alonge and Chief Femi Balogun, the State Chairman and Secretary of Afenifere respectively, the group said it was wrong for someone like Buhari, who had refused to attend the Council of State meetings since 2007 to rule Nigeria.

"The last council of state meeting attended by Buhari was during the ratification of the disputed census figures, which shows that Kano State was still more populous than Lagos despite the fact that Jigawa was carved out of it.

"That's the same way he boycotted the Oputa Panel and he is also going to boycott the presidential election debate organised by the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria ( BON ), a statutory organisation comprising of all television and radio stations in Nigeria.

"If Buhari does not believe in the Council of State, he never believed in the Oputa Panel that was set up by the Obasanjo government and now Buhari is saying he does not believe in BON, it simply indicates that he does not believe in Nigeria as a country.

"How then can Buhari govern a country that he does not believe in?"

Speaking further, the group said; "Buhari demonstrated his ethnic bigotry on 13 October 2000, when he led the Arewa team to the Governor of Oyo State, late Chief Lam Adesina to confront the state over alleged killings of Fulani cattle rearers in Saki, Oke Ogun Area of the state.

"Ethnic champion Buhari had said that he was in Oyo State to express his 'displeasure about the incident of clashes between two peoples… the Fulani cattle rearers and merchants are today being harassed , attacked and killed like in Saki. In the month of May, 2000, 68 bodies of Fulani cattle rearers were recovered and buried under the supervision and protection from a team of Mobile Police from Oyo State Command.'

“Buhari went on to allege that 'some arrests were made by Oyo State Police Command in the massacre with their immediate release without court trial. This was said to have been ordered by Oyo State authorities and they were so released to their amazement. The release of the arrested suspects gave the clear impression that the authorities are backing and protecting them to continue the unjust and illegal killings of Fulani cattle rearers…'

"Then Buhari dropped the bombsell, he wanted 'immediate stoppage of the killings, justice and compensation to the Fulanis.'

"That was how far Buhari went in championing the interest of the Fulanis as if they were not Nigerians and the it is our advise to Buhari that he should continue to lead only the Fulanis. He can't even lead the Hausas, Kanuris, Tivs, Gwaris, Nupes, Jukuns and other tribes in the north."

I don't seee how the above indicate that he doesn't believe in one Nigeria. As Military Head, the General served with all integrity and honesty. What is it again?
