Looking at U.S. history, it is clear that there is no precedent for postponing a national presidential election, even in the midst of foreign or domestic wars. Moreover, the President lacks the constitutional authority to alter or postpone a national election; the election timetable is specified by statute of Congress as authorized by the Constitution.

This is for an organised society that thrives on rule of law. Our own society is governed by the whims of those belonging to the largest party in Africa unfortunately. Until this is #Changed , do not expect any thing better.

Fool, throughout the duration of world war 2 there was no election.

This is why Franklin Rosevolt is the longest serving president in American history!

In every society someone must act to set precedent where non exist. I think that had to pen down Nigeria in the Guinness Book of Records.

The postponement, to me is not that bad so long as it does not tamper with the May 29 date.

Well let's hope and work towards the next election dates.

Franklin D. Roosevelt was the 32nd President of the United states from March 4, 1933 to April 12, 1945.

A record total of 12 yrs, Roosevelt is the longest serving president of the united states!

He died in office.

His tenure spanned the entire world war.

Go and read up on history and stop believing that bastard Muslim shill Barack Osama.

Sorry to disagree with you on your assertion that "our society is governed by the whims of those belonging to the largest party in Africa"

Until we all learn to respect the law and abide by it, be objective and say the truth even if saying it will harm us or put us at a disadvantage, our society will continue to be govern by the whim of whoever is in power irrespective of tribe, religion or political affiliation.

In other word don't expect the change you are canvassing for because that change is still a long way coming, APC or PDP but one is a lesser devil.

By all means please vote according to your conscience but why doing so pray that God will be done.

Nigeria is a co-join ethnicity that is existing and thrives in an atmosphere of "organized disorderliness"

no definite date can ever be set in Nigeria without any exception

even if Nigeria happens to be Saudi Arabia, trust me going to Mecca for aaj will holds at different day and month every year

Don't u think being reasonable pays a better deal than being intellectual? Intellectual conceit has plunged the whole world into chaos with large scale of atrocities being committed on daily basis. Man inherited the 'INTELLECT' here in the Gross Material World which should function as a servant of the Spirit to enable his Gross Material courses. But when man pushes his Spirit aside and thereby leave all decision and investigation to the Intellect which is bound to space and time, limited in its capacity to grasp and examine, the whole world must be thrown into ruin as we already have and witness today. Man should be spiritual according to his nature and point of origin, not intellectual! The Spirit knows "everything", both what's to come in hundreds of yrs from now. Therefore become spiritual and seek spiritual knowledge.
"MAN KNOW THYSELF!"

In Nigeria the President lacks such power too or did he Postponed the National Elections by himself? Was he the one who announced it?

Think, Think, Think, don't be quick to conclude.

Nigerian constitution allows INEC to do as it pleases, Schedule and reschedule their timetable. If memory serves, Jega asked for the postponement of said Election since late last year to enable him and his crew prepare well incase a clear winner did not emerge and another re-run election is necessary to determine the winner.

Can there be election in naija without Military presence? So if the Military is saying they won't be present by February 14 what really can Jega do to protect all his staff from expected violence (a trademark of naija politics).
