NIS Advises Nigerians Against Habouring Illegal Immigrant by zyzxx(m): 12:45pm On Mar 05, 2015
The Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS has called on Nigerians to stop habouring illegal immigrants, saying doing so can expose the nation to insecurity.
The Comptroller of NIS in Osun State Command, Mr. Chris Onunwor, stated this in in Osogbo, Osun State while parading illegal immigrants arrested by officials of the command in the state capital.
Onunwor said the illegal immigrants would be repatriated back to their countries for violating the immigration law. He said while Nigeria welcomes foreigners, the government frowns at entering the country through illegal routes and without proper documentation.
Onunwor further stated that the NIS had begun a clampdown on foreign nationals who did not have proper registration, stressing that the illegal immigrants arrested would be repatriated. He said so far the command has arrested 30 illegal immigrants in the state.
He said, “We are also calling on those habouring illegal immigrants to bring them out. It is in the interest of every Nigerian that we don’t have illegal immigrants living in our midst. In the course of the exercise, 30 persons who migrated to Nigeria without following a due process have been arrested and they will be repatriated to their countries soon.
“The aim of the mop up exercise is to ensure that there is zero tolerance for the participation of non- Nigerians during the forthcoming general elections.
“The mop up exercise is a continuous one and it aims at securing our society from possible build up which might result in instances of insurgencies.
“It will also enable the NIS to identify the regular immigrants amongst us while the irregular ones will be repatriated. Those who do not have valid travelling documents are not supposed to be in Nigeria, they are to be flushed out. We are fishing out the illegal immigrants and repatriating them back to their countries.”
