Thirteen political parties have pledged to work with the main opposition party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), to ensure that the general election is conducted in a free and fair manner.

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM), Dr. Bashir Ibrahim, who led representatives of the parties on a solidarity visit to the APC presidential candidate, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), Wednesday in Abuja, said they would stand with the APC by insisting that the right thing is done to ensure a credible election.

“We are here to collaborate with the APC. It is unfortunate that some political parties have decided to serve their masters rather than the country. We are here to inform you that we will stand by you and on the side of the truth,” he said.

While receiving the parties Buhari expressed gratitude to those who had agreed to enter into a working relationship with him and the APC.

“I honestly appreciate how you arrived at this decision to cooperate with us in this election. This decision is very patriotic. We have to appreciate the stage we are in. We have to realise that we can save the system and our country if we come together,” he said.

He also accused the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of sentencing Nigeria to economic and political underdevelopment since it assumed power 16 years ago, adding that the country had made more money between 1999 and 2015 than it made between 1914, when amalgamation took place, and 1999.

He challenged the ruling party to tell Nigerians how it had utilised the resources it made in the last 16 years it has been in power.

“We challenge the PDP, let them account for their stay in power for 16 years in terms of the fundamental objectives we have been talking about in the areas of security, the economy and corruption.

“We have been very consistent about these issues but people who are sitting on the periphery have kept on making noise and wasting our time. Let them come and defend themselves on what they have done in the last 16 years with the incredible resources they made within this period, the incredible resources this country realised within this period, which is much more than what the country made since amalgamation in 1914. If you like, go and get this record from the central bank.

“The type of money we made in the last 16 years, we have never made it before. We used to have Nigerian Airways, the Nigerian Shipping Line, Nigerian Railways, etc. But what do we have now, nothing.

“Look at the state of our naira. Now you have to get N220-something for a dollar. How can we develop under this system?” he asked.

Some of the parties present during the visit included PDM, African Peoples Alliance (APA), KOWA Party, Social Democratic Party (SDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Hope Democratic Party (HDP), Democratic Peoples Party (DPP), United Peoples Party (UPP), Accord Party (AP), Independent Democratic Party (IDP), Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) and Action Alliance (AC).

I wish I had the privilege to see Buhari and these other candidates.

I'll shake them, hug them dearly and say, you all are THIEVES, maybe Jonathan is just a bigger THIEF

Personally, I don't believe in all these endorsements. CHANGE IS HERE and even if all the parties align with PDP, it will NOT stop CHANGE!!

Now, a minute percentage of the politicians might be doing this selflessly, but we know most of the are doing it for their pockets.

The politicians and people giving these endorsements for their own benefit are of 2 classes;

(1) GEJ Endorsers: these are the SHORT-SIGHTED ones who can not afford to have the share of dollars pass them by. They tell themselves they have to eat from the national cake now, today, this moment. They are the ones that form useless groups like "association of okada riders that use yellow helmets" grin grin Some of them know for sure GEj will lose but they want to quickly collect their own and go. Short-sighted.

(2) GMB Endorsers: They have not been many for obvious reasons (No dollar to share). But these are the ones that think Ahead. They KNOW BUHARI is going to win. So they want to be part of the winning team quickly (Not the millions that will defect after the elections) They are risk-takers and largely have some integrity because the easiest thing is to quickly collect dollars and clean mouth. They are far-sighted.

Where do you belong?

@Barcanista, come and see your SDP pledging to work together with GMB and APC. GMB victory in this election is going to be convincing in such a way that GEJ will have no choice but to admit defeat and congratulate the winner.

2015 elections: SDP to support Jonathan OCT 2014
Abuja – The Social Democratic Party (SDP) says it will support President Goodluck Jonathan during presidential election in 2015 because of his performance in his first tenure of office.
Mr Rafiu Salau, the National Secretary, SDP, said this in Abuja on Saturday during an interview.
He said the party’s primaries to elect candidates for the National Assembly and the State House of Assemblies would begin on Nov. 16 and end on Nov. 30.
According to him, the party will begin to verify the credentials of various candidates after the primaries.
“There are some people that have shown interests but we, as party members, are contemplating accepting Jonathan as the party’s candidate.
“He is carrying out the dream of our founding fathers, Chief Obafemi Awolowo and we are going to adopt him and work with him,’’ Salau said.
He said the party was also working to educate Nigerians on the essence of building a pure democratic platform, where the electorate would dictate who would rule over them.
He urged the electorate to ignore the habits of some politicians who were fond of inducing the public with stipends to get votes.
“The politicians should be the servants while the people should the bosses in this case; receiving N5, 000 from a politician is because the voters do not know their values.
“If the voters realise this, politicians will desist from teasing the public with stipends at the expense of national development,’’ he said.
He, therefore, urged the voters to use their powers to bring people that will govern them well into power in 2015. (NAN)

SDP adopts Jonathan; Gov. Aliyu forgives Buhari

The Social Democratic Party (SDP), on Tuesday in Abuja endorsed the candidature of President Goodluck Jonathan in the Feb. 14 presidential election. The National Publicity of SDP, Dr Abdul Isiaq, said this at a news conference in Abuja.
Jonathan-austerityHe said that the party reached the decision following the report of a committee set up by its National Executive Committee on adoption of presidential candidates. The National Chairman of the party, Chief Olu Falae, had hinted of the party’s decision to adopt a presidential candidate.
He said that the development followed the inability of the party to produce its candidate. Isiaq said that the committee, in the report presented to the National Chairman of SDP, observed that of all the presidential candidates, only that of PDP formally requested for the party’s support. He said that the committee also observed that PDP had also accepted the SDP’s required conditions to warrant the party’s support.
Isiag said that part of the conditions was that PDP would faithfully implement the 2014 National Conference report as a basis for restructuring Nigeria. Others, he added, were adoption of policy of zero tolerance for corruption and intensification of efforts to defeat insurgency in the North East, among others.
“Based on the foregoing observations, the committee has unanimously recommended that SDP should endorse and support the candidature of Jonathan. “This is to enable him to complete the restructuring of the polity based on the report of the National Conference 2014. “The party has accepted these recommendations and hereby directed all its supporters and members throughout Nigeria to vote for Jonathan’’, Isiaq said.
Isiaq, who was also the Chairman of the committee, however, stressed that the support was limited strictly to the presidential election. According to him, it does not extend to any other elections, adding that SDP has candidates for other elections. “SDP is determined to contest and win all the elections for which it has sponsored candidates throughout Nigeria and thereby become the credible alternative which it aspires to be.’’

Gov. Babangida Aliyu of Niger on Tuesday said he had forgiven the presidential candidate of the APC, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, for truncating his political career in 1983. Aliyu stated this at the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential campaign in Minna “Many people think I have sympathy for Buhari, my career was truncated by him. In 1983, the people of Minna elected me into the House of Representatives, but he truncated it.
“I was annoyed before but I have forgiven him because it gave me opportunity to go for my masters degree”, he added. “Buhari may be honest and we may admire his personal qualities, but that does not translate into public qualities”, Aliyu added. He called on members of the party not to be intimidated by the opposition, adding that victory was certain for the PDP in the elections. Aliyu commended President Jonathan’s revolution in the agriculture sector of the economy, adding that agriculture would soon replace oil money.
