Thanks so much for your contributions. We are running around trying to raise funds. Meanwhile, she would be coming to Ibadan to book at UCH. don't know what their charges would be but we are still hopeful.
my prayer now is that she doesn't fall into labour on the election day cos her EDD is 29th (Sunday).

We would appreciate help from anyone who can. even with baby items please.
My dear!!! I can understand what ur sister is going through o. Had my baby a year ago thru CS. I have about seven fibroids, made up of the three types of fibroids and V-birth was not even an option for me at allllll. My doctors said they couldn't even let me fall into labour, so they fixed my date for 2 wks b4 my due date, when it seemed like we wld have issues with baby's life, the moved it closer again anoda 2 weeks. Yes I believe in miracles cos even they conception and birth of my baby was one, but pls pls pls prepare for CS. But her doctors shld have told her of the possibility of a V-birth. I still have my baby things and won't mind sharing at all with your sister. But don't know whether u can still be able to pick it up within this short time. Don't worry abt election, only a mad man would try to stop woman in labour going to the hospital. Let me know if u r interested.

and you think nairalanders are in the best position to advice you, some of them who are stupid enough to shout 'gej till 2019' you better go and see a doctor in a general hospital. It will be relatively cheaper. Go to lasuth if you are in lagos but I don't know if they are on strike

LASUTH, that is Ikeja general hospital, their CS is expensive. Orile-Agege Genaral Hospital, Ikorodu general hospital are cheaper. The charges at AYINKE HOUSE is almost like private hospital as regards CS.

Reading through your post brought tears to my eyes and I can feel your pains and what you and the whole family is going through now cos I have been there too.

Like how much do we need to get her through CS? You can inbox me and let's see how we can raise funds for her to do the CS which is the best option. I am already discussing with some of my doctor friends. One is a professor of Med and he is an obs and gynae specialist.

The Lord will see her through and turn the situation for you,for her,for the whole of your family and every one of us. It is well. Take heart,be strong and always encourage her. I am with you in prayers

Thanks for your kind heart. Ask the guy to state the amount. CS is expensive in Lagos, I had all my kids through CS, the last one, it cost me 200k. The guy should meet the sister and inquire from the doctor that will do the CS and we can try our best for her.

A case like this happened in luth some years back. The woman also had fibroid along side pregnancy, c/s was done for her by a particular surgeon that was invitedd from ikorodu to perform the operation. After some years the same woman was pregnant again, still having this fibroid. They call on this same particular surgeon to come and perform another operation, the surgeeon came and examined the woman and asked them " who told u this woman cannot do v delivery" the people there were surprised . But to the glory of God she had v delivery. If u had been based in lagos i will have recommed the hospital to u. But to be at a safer side iis better u prepare ur mind for c/s.

Hmmmm.... Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread. I'm in tears as I type cos, I love my sister sooooo much and would want to see her happy at all times.

I may not be able to quote every poster, but I would explain. She registered in LAUTECH but even her ante-natal sessions according to her, were not as thorough. Mum insists she comes to book in UCH while we run around for funds.

My number is 08128520564.

She would be in Ibadan today to book at UCH.

Very important if she is going to UCH to deliver she needs to present her medical history from the former hospital where she attended antenatal. Without that I really doubt if they will be willing to admit her. I have seen women in labour turned back because they didn't register antenatal at the hospital they want to deliver.
Just tell her to get it inclusive of doctors report and tests she did.

I don't believe you Mr. Once a c.section is not always a c.section I'm a living witness. My first child was a CS while two was normal delivery. And I also had fibroid growing with d baby. My sister God be with her just that we are all different it goes well with me might be different to another. It's well she will come out of it in Jesus name. Amen
Yes, I agree that quote is not all encompassing. A few might escape from it depending on the reason for the first CS and the conditions of the current pregnancy.
As a doctor I will not try VBAC on my patient with a coexisting fibroid unless the fibroid is very small and located in the upper pole of the uterus. And I will be ready for emergency CS.
You said you have a fibroid, what is the location and size? What is the reason for the first CS?
The quote applies to two or more previous scars.

Once a C-section, always a C-section. Add dt to the fibroid she's carrying which we don't know the position, and you won't need me to tell you not to gamble with your sister's life.

Best case scenario, she goes back to C-section as an emergency.
Worst case scenario, she gets a ruptured uterus.

That being said, I must admit that miracles still happen.

The choice is yours.
i disagree with your opening statement, provided the same indication for the CS reoccurs or other contraindications to SVD,but without these she can still have a successful delivery via SVD...

Good day nairalanders,
I'm writing on behalf of my sister who happens to be pregnant and due for delivery in less than two weeks.
She has fibroid growing alongside her baby. Her first child was birthed via caesarian but as it is now, she doesn't have the financial capacity to go for a caesarian and insists she would try out the vaginal.
Apart from my parents and my younger sister, she happens to be all alone in this race as her husband had been violent and now has lost his job.
We wouldn't want to take a risk, but the teaching hospital where she is located is on strike which leaves her with the alternative of using a private hospital.

Your advice would be highly appreciated please. Thank you.
i understand what you and the family are facing but the fact is that if the location of the fibroid is not obstructing the passage of the baby then she can have a SVD. However if there are other contraindications to a SVD apart from the fibroid then my dear, its a CS....Please let her be well evaluated by an obstetrician/Gynaecologist....its well

My sister in law lost her baby last week.
She had a big size fibroid and also gave birth vaginally. She was in labour for about 5 hours before the baby came but the baby didnt cry after she came forth.
The doctors did all they could to make her cry e.g. I Was told theres an injection they gave her but she still didnt cry.

We discovered the baby had mucus in her nose, ears and eyes.(What could cause that)?

Dont know how that came about.
After about 10 minutes, the baby pooed and peed but stopped breathing thereafter.

It was very painful. She cried her eyes out. I had advised her to do a c section but she was obstinate.

I understand she took a very huge risk.

So @ op i advise you try everything within your means to raise the money.

How much have you been able to raise? Lets see we can help out.

God will make a way for her in Jesus name.

THE BEST OPTION STILL REMAINS CS PLEASE. DONT RISK YOUR LIFE AND THAT OF THE BABY. THE FIBROID MAY BLOCK THE BIRTH CANAL SO THE BEST THING IS TO OPEN YOU UP, BRING OUT THE BABY AND THE FIBROID. GOD GUIDE AND PROTECT YOU AND THE BABY. REMAIN BLESSED.

Vbac is not impossible but with her EDD around the corner, a repeat CS would be safer if she hasn't gone into labour by her due date, especially since she hasn't had a vaginal delivery before. Attempting Vbac in an unsafe setting is risky becos of the risk of uterine rupture. So if the place doesn't have an experienced obstetrician, anaesthetist, blood banking facilities and facilities for emergency cs at all times, then attempting vbac there is unsafe. Delivery either by cs or vag delivery can be complicated by postpartum hemorrhage from the fibroid

I wouldn't advise normal birth due to her medical history, my neighbour's GF died last year because of this.
They attempted a normal birth and it was complicated finally before they could perform the CS she and her baby died.
Really sad, i know some general hospitals would still accept her due to the seriousness of her case, please raise
funds and let her check into a reputable general hospital ASAP...off topic, a pregnancy is planned and
even when unplanned we have 9 full months to prepare and save towards it, women learn to save and
plan ahead please.

Thanks dear. She actually did plan. But so many things have happened in a short period of time which I can't start explaining. It is well with all.of us. Evil shall never know our dwelling by God's grace.

It depends on the location of the fibroid and the size too. What was the reason of the 1st c/s? was it due to the fibroid or other reasons such as CPD, fetal distress, maternal distress, medical conditions such as pre-ecclampsia, GDM, cardiac prom etc?
2ndly what is the interval b/w the previous c/s and now?
3rdly shd follow her doctor's advise to avoid regret all b/c of money that will come out when the inevitable happens.
4thly, is better to borrow money or enter agreement with the doctor if in a private hospital on the mode of payment (I do so with my patients here in P/H, even though few disappoints) than regret later.
5thly, enjoy ur day(according to my radio pal Muyiwa Afolabi frankly speaking)

Thats misinformation my dear ?doctor. U can have normal delivery after one c/s as far as the interval is up to 2yrs. But is risky inducing a previous c/s patient. If the fibroid is in the lower segment, and with previous c/s, it is a big risk trying vaginal delivery.

The fact that a myomectomy can be combined with the CS adds credit to the CS option.

This is very wrong. I have fibroid and I had my first baby via CS. 2 years later I had my second baby via vaginal delivery. I didn't have any C-section emergency or ruptured uterus. The fibroid is still there, and my next Baby will be via vaginal delivery too, unless the doctors advise otherwise. What I will advise the Op's sister is to seek medical advice. If the doctors examine her and find her suitable for vaginal delivery, she can go for it.

Hi zikkie, if u can get nairaland charity group(THeN) to verify this, pick the hospital and options you are comfortable with and send me a personal message. I should be able to help with part of the funds.

Money is not enough reason to make you guys settle for a less safe option.

She had fibroid with her first but that particular pregnancy was very eventful. Swollen legs, general weakness, and her water broke before EDD but no contractions. It was an emergency CS. The baby came out with jaundice and was put inside a cot with blue light (rays)

The previous CS was four years ago

Hello zikkie, how is ur sis?. At my first trimester, I noticed sharp pains all over my waist, unable to get up or sit. I had to see a doc and scan was done, fibroid of a small size was seen, not close to baby and I was under observation. doc say dat I should not worry, with prayers, my scan at 3rd trimester showed dat it has disappeared and I gave birth safely.
pls try and ask ur sis these questions.
where is d fibroid located?
What size is the fibroid?
What did the doc say abt her delivery status?
When did she register for ante-natal clinic?

I think the fibroid is in the uterus. She registered at lautech some months ago. She started spotting two months ago while at work and she was admitted, given some injections and drips. The doctor told her she was okay but needed bed rest.
