I think that instead of playing contractors and kickbacks.....Governor Rochas would do well to fund educaiton better in Imo state.

A system whereby students are given a HP 4GB or ACER 4GB computer...and pay back the state govt at the rate of N5000 per month (or N2500 per month) might be better.

I even think those are notebooks like 11" not laptops as per d sizes how do dey expect to use discs wit notebooks? For me I think the good gesture alone is worthy of applause, if they ain't of good quality, that man might have given out the contract for supplies and maybe d company did d tricks, u didn't expect the gov to go n purchase them himself.. and for some Nigerians if its not a known make like hp or dell den it's rubbish...moreover they called dem Toys yet that ameachi obioma wants to sell his own for 20k you see Nigerians?

In fairness to Rochas....nice thought, but...he could have gotten better computers for the students.Those computers look like something for primary school kids....not university students. A student needs a 4GB computer...or a 2GB with a 16GB flash....for all those projects/assignments/papers.

The problem is getting 4GB PC's costs money...and at the end of the day....someone has to pay for the computers...and it won't be the govt alone...

In my opinion....Rochas should have bought 4GB HP computers....and should have given it to the students. IMSG pays half....students pay the other half either in a lump sum....or at a rate of say N5000 monthly(like a hire-purchase agreement)

Modified at 8.45 am.....5000 HP laptops at N120000 per laptop (that is the market price for a 4G laptop)= N600million naira.....which is more than the budget of the state for the tertiary institutes.

My suggestion is that instead of the toys....IMSG should liase with a computer manufacturer to produce cheap laptops that cost N50000...but without most of the frills (eg cameras, ability to watch film, etc).

Instead of distributing sub standard laptops, he could just use the money to get good laptops and distribute to hardworking students in each dept.

Did he force anyone to take the Laptops? It was given free for Pete's Sake. Moreover until we see a screenshot of the Laptop given we cannot conclude on its memory size/other specifications.

Let's not forget that Rochas has serious opposition in the PDP, and they'd be quick to spin his acts of goodwill to make Rochas appear bad.

well said.it sounds more like an android laptop than a real laptop. can't imagine a laptop with 128mb RAM in this age being useful to anyone except kids.
would like to examine such tablets though
