Fellow Nigerians I need your help. I have been in America for 6 years now, and during those six years I have realized that I love women instead of men. I am more complete with a woman as my partner than a man. Rachel the love of my life, and I have now been together for two years; and through a sperm donation from the hospital she is now carrying our first child. My problem is that my mom is coming for treatment in the states and she will be staying with us. she doesn't any of this. I have been so worried thinking about this that am losing sleep over this. I just don't know what to do. How should I break this to a Nigerian mother? 1 Like |

mubaraqqq: If she is not going to be with you guys for too long and you are not ready to break the news to her, then don't tell her. Let her just believe that you two are flatmates and that Rachel has agreed to share her bed with you so that she (your mum) can be comfy in "your" room. Coming out is never easy, especially to the parents. Another option would be to let your mum come over and get to like Rachel and then break it to her gently. There is no real easy way. dont tell her, first she is coming 4 medical treatment and this is the last news she wants to hear and it may even give her more high pressure or worst heart attack. so just let her rest maybe if she happens to come back when is recovered then you might tell her. but dnt just dnt do it now abeg cox it is not easy 4 for some folks especially a mother and a nigeria with her culture to hear such news from her daughter she thought would marry prince charming or a rich man however make her get to knw rachael very well and like her cox then whenever u decide to tell her she will not be harsh on her. |

I hope as a mother that God gives me the wisdom to accept my child no matter their sexual orientation. In fact I know that no matter what lifestyle my child chooses as long as they are happy, healthy and a contributing member of society that i will accept them. You're mom comin over for treatment might not be the ideal time to tell her about your sexuality. Pick the right moment to tell her, and make sure it comes from you FIRST. |

She will be grateful that you had a nice person who saw you through it all and who loves you nevertheless and unconditionally (Again, this option is not advisable and should be used only as the very last resort. . . once she has come round to the idea, you can tell her at a future date that the abuse/rape bit was not true but you did it because you knew she would not accept your sexuality otherwise).
