When Gej said, 'stealing is not corruption. ' he was quoted verbatim. Now give me the exact link quoting Buhari of this exact comment on making the value of Naira equal to Dollar

70-80%? Me thinks that's patronizing. 98% of nairalanders are brain-dead goats who only know how to spew balderdash.

Its a cool evening and I'm in the mood for a bet. I hereby make a challenge to anyone who can quote Buhari verbatim as saying HE WILL MAKE THE NAIRA EQUAL IN VALUE TO THE DOLLAR.
I also challenge anyone here to quote Buhari verbatim as saying HE WILL STABILIZE THE GLOBAL/INTERNATIONAL PRICE OF CRUDE OIL.
If u do, I'm gonna pay N10k into ur account and tender my apology here on nairaland. U're gonna put ur account number on nairaland here and if by tomorrow u do not receive an alert, then I'm the worst slowpoke to ever exist on planet earth. However, if u accept the challenge and quote me, but cannot offer incontrovertible proof, then u'll pay N10k into my account. Deal?
Since a lot of u nice 'brilliant' folks here are 100% sure that Buhari made those statements, then why not accept my challenge and make free N10k? All u need to do is quote Buhari (which won't take more than 4 or 5 lines) and the N10k is urs.
Now, if none of u who has been making brouhahas about GMB's statement accepts this challenge, then y'all are imbecilic weaklings and should bury ur brainless heads in shame. But me thinks u can't be that brainless, so someone pls prove me wrong. Somebody quote me oooooooo

27 pages, 866 posts and no one can accept this simple challenge 2 make very easy 10k? grin
Those e-warriors who've not been paid, at least collect this 10k na make e be say sth enter ur hand after ur battles on behalf of Oga and his party.
Still waiting.....

Welldone prof....
PapaBrowne:

Are you serious Your speech just gave you off as someone who lacks complete understanding of Economics>

Illiteracy no be moi moi oh!! Ha! So if someone tells you he will equate the value to the dollar you would just swallow it hook line and sinker??
What were you doing when others were attending Economics class??

For the Naira to be equal to the dollar, you would need to see our dollar reserve rate go to something like a trillion dollars!! Even with 20 years of 20% economic growth rate, we would probably not be there!!

Now the bigger lesson for you is that a very strong Naira is not good for our country especially if you want to produce goods and export competitively..
Now let me explain that to you:
A bag of Dangote cement sells for 1500 Naira.
When the dollar was 160 Naira, that bag of cement was equal to $9.
At the new rate of 215 Naira, that same bag of cement is now equal to $7.
That means if Dangote wants to sell his cement in Albania, he has a better price point than he would have had 5 months ago.

Now imagine the Naira is exchanging at 5 Naira to a dollar.
That same bag of cement would now be equal to $300. Where on planet earth would he be able to sell his bag of cement at that price??

Any country that desires to produce and export to the rest of the globe, prays for a weaker currency to allow its goods better pricing amongst competitors. If Buhari understands economics, he will never pray for a very strong Naira except of course he wants us to keep importing everything!!

One can't shout 'corruption cease' and it stops!
You can't even unlawfully/lawfully lock up some corrupt official and it ceases.
This is democracy n the courts can set free a corrupt guilty official.
Strengthening our institutions is a way of checking corruption/stealing
Jonathan had done it in IPPS, e-wallet fertilizer/seed distribution etc, he's tackling them one at a time.

If GEJ is fighting corruption, why has it taking him so long to publish the PWC Audit report of the NNPC?

This man is burying a report that can expose corruption and people want us to vote such a person to fight corruption. A man who pardoned Alameiseigha. A man who could not sack Stella Oduah (an appointed member of his cabinet) despite evidences of misappropriation of funds.

A man who cannot tell that Embezzlement is corruption, how can he fight it?

Redenomination if it's done, the naira will be strengthened against the dollar, but it would n't take long before the naira begins to fall against the dollar to its pre-redenomination value inasmuch as we only depend on crude oil as our source of foreign exchange in d country; when oil price falls, that new naira will fall.

It can be done. That is the first point. So all the illiterate talks is myopic.

Now, before, during and after the redenomination, there aresteps that can be taken to maintain the sstrength of the redenominated currency. Like diversifying our nations source of foreign exchange and reducing inflation rate.

I would have loved to do a detailed analysis of your post but its late in the night for me, but l will summarize.

Dont know how old you are but l can tell you that l was old enough to handle a Dollar, when the Naira was EQUAL to the Dollar..... and our reserve was not anywhere a TRILLION, not even a Billion Dollars, back then.
Check the exchange rate in the early 70's and confirm my point.
Back then, Nigeria was exporting a lot of Cocoa, ground nut, Palm Oil, Rubber, e.t.c

It was done then, it can be done now... Period!

2.) To say a very strong naira is not good for Nigeria, to justify the worse-than-Zimbabwean "Naira' we are spending today, is not doing "full justice" to economics!
I wont go on a long analysis of Dangote or Ibekwe but let us just "invert" your statement and see how it pans out.

Can we say "A very strong Dollar is NOT GOOD for America"?.....
.....and despite at almost #240 => Dollar, has it stopped Nigerians from importing from America (most of our imported cars are from there, just to mention one item) or scrambling to buy the Dollar?
More importantly, has it STOPPED America from exporting its products all over the world, especially to Nigeria?
Answer is obviously NO!

Finally, as educated people, we must refrain from espousing what l will call "half knowledge", deliberately or otherwise, especially when doling out "economic precepts". Our analysis has to be "balanced" and reflected on all possibilities.

Let me make bold to say that what YOU THINK may be LOST from a "strong local currency" can be, .....and IS actually NEGATED by the following:

a.) Superior Products (which are always in demand, irrespective of higher prices)

b) Reputation (E.g, America has a "reputation" for "full options" vehicles thus, despite the additional cost, people will rather inport an "American Spec", than one from japan or Europe.

c.) Strong Local Market (Countries with Big population which has "HIGH PURCHASING POWER" can still take advantage of their strong currencies without much negative effect as MOST products from their Factories get consumed locally)

4.) Selective Production (This is similar to (a) above but here, emphasis is on producing goods that are either termed "luxury" or very 'high-tech" and or "uncommon" e.h high class armaments, expensive cars that gets Russians buying , e.t.c.

Bottom line: A Strong currency is NOT a disadvantage to a nation or its export (as you asserted) ...... if you have the right people managing the "MIX" of Economic policies!

I understand that such economic "management" is beyond a "I know Nothing" President or his thieving cohorts, more so in a Nigeria where the leaders stiLl dont recognize the fact that calling you "economic giant of Africa or ranking you #1 on some utopian index" MEANS NADDA, IF YOU CANT EVEN POWER YOUR HOMES OR FACTORIES FOR AT LEAST 12HRS IN A DAY! undecided undecided

We have been trying to do two things since the days of Shagari, without success!

1) Convince foreign INVESTORS that Nigeria is 'the country' to invest. Except for a few "crooked" investors who themselves are only here to scam our system, with the collusion of their local crooks, l have not seen any serious investors in Nigeria, for decades! Some are doing what is called "window-dressing", being around "on paper" .... just in-case something crops up undecided undecided

2.) Export Promotion by keeping a weak currency: This one is a no-brainer! What do we really produce in this country, that is "competitively" worth exporting, ..............using Generator and Diesel as the source of industrial power?

Please, our leaders should stop scamming the populace!
It will not happen, not with Buhari, certainly never with GEJ......unless power becomes at least 80% stable.

Please bring forward a press release pre and post CBN where he said such. Till then, STOP regurgitating that link.

The Prof said it. Yup. Its not an assumption by a blog.
Prof. Soludo Unfolds the Strategic Agenda for the Naira-Tuesday, August 07, 2007:

The Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Prof. Chukwuma C. Soludo, has announced the Strategic Agenda for the Naira. This, according to him is to complement the 13-point agenda initiated in 2004. The strategic agenda is anchored on the issues of realignment of currency redenomination, ensuring its stability and global integration.

My source is from the news archives of CBN itself, not a blog. If u doubt that, u can verify for urself. Visit this link: http://www.ns2.cbn.gov.ng/News/newsarchives.asp, click on 'news archives', go to page10 and u'll see the article. Secondly, population growth can lead to inflation. Yup. There's a relationship. U need sources too?

Guys i really don't understand the bone of this argument. our question to him should be how he intends to achieve this? and how realistic? but is possible it is definitely possible and is there sense in what he is saying there is definitely sense in it. I read someone's post that says how can achieve this, within his time frame in office. the truth is that he cant achieve it in within his timing in the office, but he can start the process. i think in Nigeria what we need is for our leaders to really have that kind of thinking for real not for talking. with that kind of thinking we will surely get there. where one Naira will equal one dollar. and our production and economy will be on the increase. that development we looking for will take place. In as much as i know he was saying it for politics. i still appreciate him for bringing it up and making us the youths know that there is still hope for development.

Omooba77:
Owerri – The All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, on Monday said he would ensure that the Naira was equal to the dollar in value, if voted into office.
Buhari stated this during the South-East presidential rally of the party at Dan Anyima Stadium, Owerri.

“It is sad that the value of the naira has dropped to more than N230 to one dollar; this does not speak well for the nation’s economy,’’ he said.
He urged the people to vote for APC, noting that he would ensure that corruption was tackled headlong if elected.

Earlier, Gov Rochas Okorocha had urged APC supporters to vote for the party’s candidates at all levels, noting that a vote for Buhari without support to others at the state would amount to nothing.
Okorocha said Buhari would address the problem of electricity, bring back the kidnapped Chibok girls and promote industrial growth.

He said that Buhari was loved by the people in the region and urged them to elect him and other APC candidates during the March 28 and April 11 general elections.

Former governor of Anambra, Mr Chinwoke Mbadinuju and former Minister of Education, Chinwe Obaji, were formally welcomed to the APC at the rally.

The rally was attended by APC supporters from Abia, Ebonyi, Anambra, Enugu and Imo. (NAN)

Do u kw y PDP n APC will continue 2 fabricate lies against demselvs? Cos they kw u guys are daft and will fall 4 it. I pity d youths more. They are like animals dancing 2 their slaughter.
Do u know y no one can offer any proof of Buhari's alleged statements? Cos they've google-searched and searched but can't find it. I doubt if 10% of those spreading d hogwash have even watched d campaign or interview video. Bunch of iddiots.

what stupid issues do u have that someone is scared to address? is it Buharis issues? you are the one amongst both of us who made buharis 'issues' serious issues that u you have to challenge. Are you not the one quotting over 10 people just because they made negative comments about Buhari which you are not comfortable with? so who is the partisan here? this is an open forum and people are free to make comments as they desire. so let me put it to u that you are the dogmatic partisan here.

i also think that u are not only memory challenged but also highly unintelligent and for these reasons i wouldnt have replied u but i need to make u understand some things so that next time u start quotting people u will take ur time to first understand them.

u said i'm beating around the bush but scared to address the issue head on? did i attempt to agree, disagree or address ur 'challenge'? u need to go back n read what the discussion has been like ehnnn.

people like u, brainwashed and brain dead are the problems we have in politics in this country. it is only people like u who claim not to be partisans but cannot bear criticisms of your candidate. Or what else is your explanation for quotting several people at once? people like u are not even honest to themselves how can other pple see u as honest? did u say u will be watching movies on that day? lol. you must be Liar Mohammed or his son. dont worry. i am not trying to believe u. i just want to let u know that u speak from both sides of ur mouth...like a typical partisan politician.

he claims he is not a partisan politician but goes around listening to video clips of Buharis. hehehe. pls who is the 'non partisan' who has time for whatever the politicians have to say but u? Even though i support GEJ for continuity i dont go around listening to clips of what he says or what not. i am not even interested and i can say i havent even listened to any before. unlike you, isnt it? so i can categorically say that amongst us, u are d daft guy who engages in campaigns of calumny and double standard. u are d one who cant bear criticisms.

i therefore still maintain that Buhari didnt pass his economics in waec and if u claim that he did, show us. that is your own challenge and since u so desperately want to claim some money, i 'll put 10k for u to claim when u do the job.

like you, i will be indoors tomorrow even though my desire is for Gej to be victorious. he might not be the best but he is better than old buhari.

since i have taken my time to reply u, i wouldnt be expecting from u and i wouldnt reply u even if u do. advice for u-
QUIT MY MENTION AND QUIT PARTISAN POLITICS
