Its GEJ all the way!

‘Why Jonathan’ll get majority votes in South-West

By gbenga oluremi

Two recent developments may have altered political calculations in the South West, changing the tide in favour of President Goodluck Jonathan in the general elections.
The first was the profound forays into the South West political spectrum by the Jonathan campaign group, led by the President himself. The second was the aftermath of a series of post National Conference Summit convened by Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State, who is also the South West Coordinator of the Jonathan Presidential Campaign Organization.
Prior to the postponement of the general elections, the zone was a practically locked down territory for the APC. The reason is not far-fetched. Over time, the opposition was able to hoodwink south westerners with their unmufflered propaganda machine into believing that Jonathan was running an inept government that could not boast of any concrete achievements.
Quite a large number of people swallowed these lies and deceits hook, line and sinker. The APC propaganda effectively veiled unprecedented achievements of the Jonathan Transformation Agenda, while poor grassroots communication strategies on the part of the Federal Government allowed these lies to stand.
As a consequence, the President lost considerable grounds in his erstwhile stronghold. His support base in the South West ebbed and his popularity waned considerably.
A shift in election date by six weeks therefore presented Jonathan an opportunity to make amends. The President pursued it with great determination and candor. He made the South West his second home, traversing the nooks and crannies of the region preaching the sermon and spreading the gospel of his veritable achievements.
The incursion into the zone was as intense as it was persuasive, with facts and figures to convince his numerous audiences that he remained the best president in Nigeria so far, having performed better than all his predecessors in office.
From town hall meetings to one-on-one parley with traditional rulers, to interactive sessions with the youths and other segments of the society, the President was able to articulate intelligently his laudable achievements in office so far and the need to be re-elected for a better tomorrow for Nigerians.
He was able to inform a cross section of Yoruba political and opinion leaders such as Yoruba Council of Elders, market women groups under the aegis of the Iyalojas, the Oodua Cooperative Alliance and representatives of other ethnic groups, about how he had worked tirelessly to deliver on all his major promises to Nigerians in spite of the huge distraction presented by the Boko Haram insurgency and other forms of violent acts.
The President told them how he had developed the economy and created millions of jobs; created greater access to quality education and improved medical care; how he had given special attention to the agricultural sector to enable it play its role in ensuring food security and massive job creation for our people, the significant progress he made in establishing more federal universities so that every state in the country can boast of at least one federal university in its domain, rehabilitating and expanding national rail transport services, reconstructing, resurfacing and expanding our roads.
He further told his audiences at different fora how he has given Nigerians the opportunity to choose their leaders without hindrance or harassment, how he provided the platform for a National Conference of the Nigerian people that would bring about greater cohesion and peaceful co-existence, how he eradicated guinea worm, stopped Ebola in its tracks, successfully privatized power generation and distribution etc.
Another issue at play was the strategic Yoruba Post-National Conference Summit that took place in turns across the South West, a veritable campaign strategy to garner votes for Jonathan.
The parleys were convened to sensitise the Yoruba people and by extension the general public about the advantages inherent in the implementation of the national conference reports, that putting the confab resolutions into effect, only could guarantee the overarching sustainable changes Nigerians have forever been agitating for.
A direct consequence of these post confab conferences was indeed to drive home the imperative of continuity of a government that convoked the confab and promised full implementation of the confab reports which would eventually restructure Nigeria, something that Nigerians, particularly the Yoruba nation had forever been agitating for.
For example, federalism, which the Yoruba people have always advocated formed a major aspect of the confab resolutions, the implementation of which would put the nation on a steady path of development.
Furthermore, majority of the challenges confronting Nigeria as a nation would be tackled, thus creating enabling and conducive atmosphere that would promote overall growth in the polity and address all peculiar problems inhibiting the greatness of our dear country.
This is the change we want. This is what the Yoruba people want. Is it the opposition that boycotted the national confab that would be committed to implementing what they never supported or believed in?
The bottom line was that this sustainable changes can only be achieved with the full implementation of the National Conference Report, which the President did not only promise to implement, but has started the process with the Federal Executive Council’s approval for implementation of the 2014 National Conference Report to commence in full gear.
This was why Yoruba leaders at the various summits unanimously endorsed Jonathan for a second term which in a subsequent manner, triggered off a gale of endorsements from all segments of the society in the South West.
These two developments have not only activated the panic button in the APC’s South West enclave, but has proved to be an eye opener to the fact that Nigeria would be better off with continuity of the Jonathan administration that is doing well and moving the country forward, than to accept the APC’s “Greek” offer of “Change” that would only draw us back.
For Jonathan, the ovation is getting louder, resonating across the South West, while the once reluctant cheers for him have begun to crescendo and set to translate to garnering South West majority votes for his re-election.

Very funny.

He really had to go around telling people what he has done... oshi ati iranu jati jati!

As a serving president who has 'done well', he shouldn't be spending this much on campaign for reelection. His achievements should be doing the campaign not him going about to tell people what he has done or doing everything possible not to have a strong opposition.

Abi una don see pregnant woman announcing herself to people? The pregnancy would eventually announce itself even if she is denying it.

People only announce pregnancy at its early stage. If our president is announcing his achievements, then it must be at it's early stage making it a rush hour thing in a bid for second term. 6 months(6yrs tenure) pregnancy need no announcement and can never be veiled like they claim APC did. Even the blind would be able to feel it

I laugh in Baruten dialect!

Thank God Jonathan/PDP knew of the fact that the SW was already locked down for APC

But to think that his 90th minute gri-gri and unending pilgrimage to Lagos( 10th time under 2months) and the poisoned chalice called CONFAB report have suddenly changed people mind towards him is the height of delusion and ogogoro-induced tomfoolery

So SWners have suddenly forgotten about all the 6years of DO-NOTHING presidency and the 6weeks fire brigade performance

So PDP believe that SWners will forgive them of crowning a Musiliu Obanikoro as a Minister again after the Ekitigate scandal

Jonathan is living in paradise of the unwise if he thinks SWners will vote for him having seen him allegedly bribing some Traditional Rulers,Pastors, Cleric and trying to corrupt and set us against each other on the basis of religion and Ethnicity

The SW voters are well informed and very observant
They know who, what is going on around them

They are not religious bigots, tribalist and hateful
They believe in the future and see beyond today

We, the SW, have decided long before 14 feb, 2015
nothing have changed

90% of Yorubas will vote Buhari
at the end of the day, Buhari would have scored
70% of SW votes come saturday

Stay in your hamlet and think for the Yorubas

Lol!! I'm glad more of you keep admitting SW is/was on lockdown for GMB before Buhari something none of you agreed to before then. Let me tell you something though, nothing has changed. Again like I said the dollar fest didn't get to everyone, so what they gained in the SW ended where the dollar stopped. You guys keep taking about grassroots, I really hope you guys are talking to them. The grassroots that I'm talking to are asking "what has changed since February?" Spoke to one of our iron suppliers today, he's an Orile guy and he said APC owns Lagos. The quote above was from a meat seller today as well.

If you notice PDP has started raising alarm, don't believe me check their handle

Some people are just to obsessed with this buhari of a thing. Buhari has nothing to offer other than his cohorts like Tinubu and co wants to convert Nigeria into their private venture. The resolution of national conference is what can change Nigeria and Gej took a gallant step by achieving that. Any government getting it right in terms of economic development is on the right path and with time everything will be fine. I remembered watching a documentary about Shagari when he celebrated his last birthday. The senate president of the first republic said the only challenge shagari was facing was the dwindling economy and if the administration were allowed to learn from their mistakes then, Nigeria would have being better of today, but what happend? Buhari and his cohorts used that as opportunity to truncate democracy and up till date we are still suffering as a result of that incidence. It obvious Gej government had challenges dealing with insurgents as a result of moles that has being created by past leadership. Thank God this administration is getting it right and in no time bokoharam will become history. I would love to admonish Nigerians to learn how to be patient because this change they are shouting will make things worse. Vote Gej! vote for Continuity and sustainability. Apart from bokoharam which is already becoming history nothing else left for the criminals to change, so change warriors should kindly help convey this message to buhari and others that there's nothing to change because as soon as Gwoza is recaptured by the military this week buhari should relax and enjoy the transformation and fresh air because definitely it will reach him in Daura. Come saturday, come out in mass and vote for a true democrat Goodluck Jonathan ! Sai Gej till 2019
