Obasanjo dances in joy at airport

Shola Adekola, Lagos
Wednesday, January 21, 2009
AS President Obama took his oath of office on Tuesday in Washington DC, former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, entertained journalists and workers at the presidential lounge of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, with dance to show his happiness for the inauguration of the first black American president.

The development is coming even as the former Cross River State governor, Mr. Donald Duke, said the inauguration of the US president provided opportunity for Nigeria to be ashamed of itself for failing to recognise its potential at home.

Obasanjo, who arrived at the airport aboard a presidential jet with registration number 5N-FGO at 3.05 p.m., however, did not answer reporters’ questions on the impact of the Obama presidency for Africa and Nigeria. Rather, he chose to give military salute to amuse journalists and workers at the presidential wing.

Duke, who arrived at the presidential wing in company with Obasanjo, wished away all excitement over the euphoria of the new US president, saying that there were many people in Nigeria who had the capacity to perform like Obama but had not be given the chance.

Was such a quote made in front of OBJ? Cos that would have been embarassing. Why didn;t reporters ask Duke what his former boss did to ensure that there were credile elections (as opposed to do or die) which would have enabled the people who are not bing "given a chance" to be elected into different capacities like senators, govenors, house of rep members and president? Maybe he should have thought a bit more before speaking?

How did hausa stop Obasanjo from ensuring that the a stable, objective and grounded electoral body was formed to handle election affairs? The elections didn't just creep up, how could it possibly have happened asa surprise? It was known by all when it will happen just like we know that hopefully there will be an election in 2011. So with all the ample timing what was the excuse for the disgrace that were the elections? So terribly organised that printing of the ballots had to be apparently "outsourced" to South Africa or so we are led to believe and i have not even gone into the massive recording of electoral malpractice which was in some areas police and army assisted. I am guessing someone was also in control of Obasanjo's mouth when he informed the populace that the elections were a do or die affair, right? How on earth can the president of a "democratic" country make such a statement which was so irresponsible and from then on served to bring into question wether there was actually any intent to allow the will of the people to rule? You sure you aren't letting him off to easily? Are we also going to continue to let Yar Adua ignore the electoral reforms he was talking off prior to his selection and then ait to be caught "surprised" again by another election we know of 2 years in advance?

Talk is cheap. You don't know how difficult it is to work and reason with Hausas until you are in the same Obasanjo's shoes. undecided

Whether hausas prevented him or not, OBJ should be ashamed that he pledged to lead Nigeria honourably and never did so. If I was in his shoes, I'd be ashamed.

I actually feel a sense of shame that Nigerians live in squalor in their own land and a few rich are rejoicing over what is happening in foreign lands.

Isn't it ironic how almost every inauguration speech in the US starts with "we are once again witnessing the peaceful transfer of power".

Now factor in our African style elections and the hypocrisy begins to feel like heartburn.

How dare a man who rigged elections dance to this occasion.
Re: Obasanjo Dances In Joy For Obama by BOSS7: 7:04pm On Jan 21, 2009
It's not even funny any longer. This man should be dancing in some sort of cell.
Oh well, that's the way the cookie crumbles in Nigeria.

shamelessness is the worst thing that can happen to any human being.
obj is not surposed to be seen in public talkless of dancing in public.
he represents shame. he is nothing less than a deciet.
if u refused to organise election and decided to select yar adua why will u be dancing for someone who organised election and the rightful person won election.
he is mocking himself and nigerians.

The moronic hausas can't be used as an excuse at all for OBJ failures and embarrassment. When the Hausa lash out like animals and u succumb to their stupidity u are just as bad as they are.

Quote from Obama inauguration speech

"To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history"

Did Obasanjo cling to power?

yeah through 3rd Term agenda that thank God and AIT did not work.So since he could not stay on he had to appoint someone in his place. i am guessing this prompted the 'do or die' statement.

Obasanjo should be dancing in shame, infact bowing his shapeless head in the pit of shamefulness.
Donald Duke gave a perfect answer to the question raised. Obasanjo rigged our election, imposed Yar'Adua
on us.

look we(nigerian) are all guilty it is not only obasanjo and co, how many of us voted for pat or chris here? someone like me did not even register embarassed(i no i don repent), but when the people believe that certain "PEOPLE"(AS IN THE PEOPLE HEREBY REFERRED TO IN PDP) have all the power to decide who rules and do nothing to stop them, then in real sense they have given does people the power.
