Re: Salary Structure Of Etisalat, Zain, MTN, Glo? by member32: 6:54am On Apr 07, 2010
NO!

You have to have more than that at your mid-30's. Associate certification are for fresh grauduate. It's an evidence that they are trainable, and they a basic knowledge of basic networking technology. At mid-30's, most company requires experts with professional certification. You have to work really hard, get a CCNP, MCSE and a Security+. Don't forget, you are not the only on running the race, you must make it before you are 40, else, you just keep managing you present job until you start you own business.

Good luck!

By the way, do anyone have an Idea about the salary scale of huawei nigeria?

I don't have figures but from all the talk going on they don't pay well. Think Ericsson or Nokia Semiens Networks if you can.

TO THE AUTHOR OF THIS POST: this is a most cruel way opf answering a question which wasn't even directed at u in the first instance. we dey fight or we dey compete? i don't even know u. am working and heading somewhere, just seeking better grounds. dat doesn't mean am homeless and roaming. at times people just say things as if life is all about competition. what about collaboration? ok. i agree, am too old to seek jobs, abi? all well and good. when i finish d CCNP in a couple of mths, i will apply again, shebi? dats why old men reduce their ages to find jobs. now banks don sack dem finish. i didn't deserve such a cruel reply to an honest, eager question. thanks all the way, as being in my mid-30s makes me an unachieving Methuselah

@Ajanlekoko many thanks for your useful insights inspite of the assualt against you, you were still so civil and composed. It is a sign of maturity. I have been invited for interview in Zain as a team lead. Any ideas on what to expect at the interview and salary scale for the position.
Need help urgently.

I am not so sure about Zain these days. The six-level structure has been abandoned, and they have, as I hear it, four levels now.
Team lead I am not sure what that means these days anymore. In the old days, it was a term used in Customer Care, now the old 'manager' levels across the company are now referred to as team leads. They even have a position called 'team member' in Zain these days.

Will try to ask though. Which department are you being interviewed for?

*Update. Just asked. Team lead is generally around N6m. It's comparable to manager level in MTN or Etisalat, though of course you don't get a car like in MTN.

@ ajanlekoko Thanks for your prompt response its within the finance department main purpose is supervision and management of forensic services including investigation of corporate frauds in Zain. The requiremnts are ACA, CFE and at least 4 years experience.

That was fast! I'm really not interested in the car aspect i've got my own fleet. Any ideas on what to expect? I'm asking this because I was once invited for a chat somewhere only to be given a test to write. I wasn't prepared for that. Don't want that experience to repeat itself.

They may do an assessment center, i.e. sk you to do a presentation, or group discussions on an unrehearsed topic, and also test reasoning/logic and business skills. generally that is how assessment centers go.

slight correction, 6m is still team lead in MTN, although they were phasing out the term team lead for manager.
anything that is level 2H is around that 6m. level 3 which is proper manager is above 7m.
all that is before tax, so nothing to be excited because it also includes lots of silly things monetised and the tax is world class.

i have one quick question.

what percentage is ones salary is tax in nigeria dis days ?
Re: Salary Structure Of Etisalat, Zain, MTN, Glo? by mbulela: 6:39pm On Oct 12, 2010
^^^
it depends om your employer.
the foreign ones (read multinationals) play by the rules and you have around 25% as taxes.
but with the Nigerian ones, the books are so bend that it is alarming.
with them, you can pay as little as 5% or even less.
Re: Salary Structure Of Etisalat, Zain, MTN, Glo? by candylips(m): 1:46pm On Oct 13, 2010
5% wow . thats very low.

Is that what is obtainable in the banking or telecoms sector

@GoldCircle, pele!
Okay, all monies are in naira.

Entry Level: Generally these are call center agents. But can apply anywhere in the company.
MTN: ~2.5-3m
Zain: ~1.5-2m
Glo: ~2.5m
etisalat: 900k

Specialist:
MTN: 3.5-4.5m
Zain: 3m-4m
Glo: Not specified, can be anything.
etisalat: 3-5m

Manager:
MTN: 10m, car and other benefits can take it all the way to 12-14m.
Zain: This is tricky. Zain just killed their organogram, so there's no manager on the same hierarchial level as other telcos. But this is around 9-13.5m inclusive of everything
Glo: Not specified, can be anything. In fact there is no hierarchial structure in Glo. But managers can get anything between 6m and 25m.
etisalat: 8-14m. no car, and exclusive of medical.

Senior Manager:
MTN: 15-25m inclusive of car and medical.
Zain: 14m-20m, inclusive of car, exclusive of medical. I believe this is the level now referred to as 'manager' in zain.
Glo: Nothing like Senior Manager in Glo. Just like Manager.
etisalat: 14-21m. No car, and exclusive of medical.

Director/GM/CxO:
This one is across board. Can be anything from 25m to 50m depending on experience, negotiation skills, etc.

These are all starting salaries. There are some exceptions, e.g zain specialists earn anything between 3m and 8m, but generally speaking, if you can command an 8m salary, zain will probably offer you a manager cadre job.
Hope this will help somewhat.
P.S. I have worked in 2 of these companies since 2001, and have at various times been offered positions in the other two, so I know exactly what each and every one of them pay.

Please, are these figures after tax figures?

How have they changed in the last 2 years? Up or Down?

@ Ajanlekoko
What it means for employees on the technical side is that a few of them will keep their jobs but will now work for an Ericsson rather than MTN, and will now probably earn more money and do 5x more work. But many will lose jobs.

Having carried out (external) audit of one of the big telcos in Africa, I will say you might want to consider Revenue management, Revenue Assurance, BPR. You technical background will give you a competitive edge

Nah.
I am looking towards a finance or business development/new markets/investment role these days.
Revenue Assurance is way too operational for me.

Since the salary structure provided is for IT/Technical employees, does anyone know what the Telecomm companies pay Finance Managers/Financial Planning Managers or a Finance Director? Do their salaries come with a car + driver, healthcare, housing etc? Thanks for your response.
