Saraki, Akume Jostle For Senate President Seat by Mickop(m): 7:33pm On Apr 02, 2015
Abuja - With the All Progressives
Congress (APC) winning majority
of the seats in the Senate in the
next dispensation, behind the
scene moves for leadership
positions in the upper chamber has begun, reports Daily Trust. Senators Bukola Saraki from
Kwara, George Akume from
Benue and Abdullahi Adamu of
Nasarawa are in contention for
the Senate President seat. The APC had tentatively zoned
the position of the Senate
President to the North Central
after its national convention in
December following the
emergence Muhammadu Buhari, who is from the North West, as
the party’s presidential candidate
and his running mate, Professor
Yemi Osinbajo, from the South
West. Incidentally all the three Senators
jostling for the seat are former
governors of their respective
states. The North East APC Senators are
also making a case for the
position of Senate President to be
zoned to their region. The party’s National Executive
Committee (NEC) is expected to
take on a power
sharing arrangement next week

The sweet thing about being in the opposition is that , except if they are able to arrive at a consensus , the position will be determined by the pdp delegates if put to vote

George Akume would win the seat. He has been the leader of the APC senators in the upper chamber since 2011. Naturally he would get their support while saraki would be chosen as the deputy.

They should zone it to SS (Edo). APC won some senatorial seats there.

Igbos would have automatically occupied that seat but for the reason(s) best known to them, they voted out their senator in APC.

So the position can't go to SE/SS. Change has really come by marginalising some region.

If one of them becomes the president, there is no way the other will be deputy.

One can go for Senate President while the other will go for Majority Leader.
