Hendrik Witboii

Born into a family of leaders in Nambia in 1830, Hendrik Witboii was the Chief of Nama. He led his people into South West Africa in 1885 in an effort to fight the German colonization there. Appearing on most Namibia bank notes, he was inaugurated in the Heroe’s Acre in 2002, of which the founding president stated, “Kaptein Hendrik Witbooi was the first African leader who took up arms against the German imperialists and foreign occupiers in defense of our land and territorial integrity. We, the new generation of the Land of the Brave, are inspired by Kaptein Hendrik Witbooi’s revolutionary action in combat against the German Imperialists who colonized and oppressed our peoples. To his revolutionary spirit and his visionary memory we humbly offer our honor and respect.”

Al Shabaab executes 3 men accused of spying

Al Qaeda-affiliated Al Shabaab group said it has publicly executed three men, accused of spying on the militants for  Kenyan military, serving with AMISOM and American Intelligence agency (CIA), Garowe Online reports.

The men identified as Abdullahi Ahmed, 51, Liibaan Hussein, 21, Mohamed Salad, 31 have been shot dead by Al Shabaab firing squad in an open area in Saakow district of middle Jubba province on Friday afternoon.

A self-proclaimed judge for Al-Shabaab's Saakow court said the three had been spying for Kenyan defense forces (KDF) in Somalia and the CIA, and threatened other informants in the rebel-held areas that they will face similar punishment.

The local residents of Saakow town had been forced by al Shabaab to gather at an open square to witness the live execution of the three men who were collectively murdered by the militants, sources said.

Early this month, Al Shabaab has carried out similar executions against Kenyan and Somali nationals in the town of Jilib whom the group has accused of providing intelligence information to MI6 and Kenyan military.

Despite being defeated in the battle and pushed away from the capital Mogadishu in 2011, by SNA and  African Union force (AMISOM), the group continues to carry out sporadic attacks and execute civilians on suspicion of working with Intelligence agencies.

ARREST OF BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS COLLABORATORS

As part of measures to stem the tide of livestock rustling which serves as another means of funding Boko Haram terrorists activities, Operation LAFIYA DOLE, in conjunction with other security agencies has taken measures to stop the criminality.

These measures have led to the arrest of some persons involved in aiding and abetting this heinous crime in the Theatre of Operation.

So far, 21 suspected persons have been arrested.

Preliminary investigation and profiling of the suspects has commenced.

Such actions by these unpatriotic elements are likely to jeopardize our collective efforts of clearing the remnants of Boko Haram terrorists in our country.

Although investigations are ongoing, it is important to state that this is a warning to all those collaborators that aid and abet terrorism in the north east generally and Borno State in particular, to desist forthwith.

The Nigerian Army and indeed Operation LAFIYA DOLE would not tolerate such acts of sabotage from anybody.

Meanwhile, the general public is hereby encouraged to report any known or suspected illegality with regards to Operation LAFIYA DOLE to the Security Agencies.

Thank you for your kind cooperation.

CNS FLAGS OFF OPERATION TSARE TEKU III, INSPECTS COMMANDS

The Nigerian Navy’s anti piracy operations code named ‘Operation (Op) TSARE TEKU’ has been extended by 3 months with effect from 20 October 2016. This follows the successful conduct of the first and second phases of the Op which were launched on 25 April 2016 and 22 July 2016 respectively. TSARE TEKU which is an Hausa phrase means ‘Safe River’.

Ships and platforms of the Nigerian Navy currently participating in the Op include NNS CENTENARY, NNS OKPABANA, NNS SAGBAMA, NNS ANDONI and NNS KYANWA. The Task Group is supported with a robust intelligence network from the Regional Maritime Awareness Capability Centres (RMAC) and the FALCON EYE located at Yenagoa, Calabar, Lagos, Oghara and Abuja.

At the flagging off ceremony of phase 3 of the Operation held on 20 October 2016 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas said that prior to the commencement of the Operation in April 2016, there were about 40 successful cases of piracy attacks in Nigerian waters. According to the CNS, this trend stopped as soon as the Op was launched.

Giving an assessment of the Op, Vice Admiral Ibas noted that during the first phase from April to July 2016, only 2 successful cases of piracy were recorded, while 1 successful case and 1 unsuccessful attempt were also recorded during the second phase of the operations between July and now. He maintained that this significant achievements as evidenced by marked reduction in successful piracy attacks and other maritime crimes has no doubt enhanced shipping activities and protection of oil and gas infrastructure. It also provided support for Op DELTA SAFE as a viable platform to cover the whole of the Niger Delta region and surrounding waterways.

Additionally, Op TSARE TEKU has continued to enhance the tactical and technical capability of Naval Ships and personnel. In the course of these operations, the Nigerian Navy has partnered with other maritime stakeholders in order to improve efficient intelligence sharing and compatibility for the benefit of maritime security.

In a related development, the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok Ete-Ibas has embarked on annual inspection of Nigerian Navy Ships, Bases, Units and establishments as part of strategies to mitigate operational and administrative challenges being faced by the service.

Al-Shabab seizes Somali town after peacekeeper pullout

Warsameh/AP]
Fighters from al-Shabab have seized control of yet another town in central Somalia after it was abandoned by African Union peacekeepers, according to a spokesman for the group and a local official.

It was the third time this month that the al-Qaeda-affiliated group moved into a town in the region after the withdrawal of Ethiopian forces.

On Sunday, an Ethiopian contingent abandoned the town of Halgan in the Hiran region, allowing the group's fighters to enter soon after, Abdiasis Abu Musab, al-Shabab's spokesman on military operations said.

A military offensive launched in 2014 by African Union forces and the Somali army pushed out al-Shabbab of major strategic centres, but the fighters, who once held sway over much of the Horn of Africa country, still control some settlements and rural areas.

Mapping al-Shabab attacks in Somalia

The fall of Halgan was confirmed by Dahir Amin Jesow, a member of parliament from the region, who said residents are being subjected to reprisals at the hands of the fighters.

"Each day, civilians are being beheaded over suspicion that they are government supporters," he told the Reuters news agency. "We do not have a government that is effective enough to protect our civilians."

The reason for the peacekeepers' withdrawal was not clear. Officials in Ethiopia were not immediately available for comment.

Somalia has been embroiled in conflict and lawlessness since the early 1990s following the toppling of military dictator Mohamed Siad Barre.

Propped up by the African Union-mandated force known as AMISOM, Somalia's military and central government have strengthened their grip on the country but a relentless campaign of violence by al-Shabab persists.

The group regularly attacks AMISOM's troops, which is made up of about 22,000 soldiers and police from African nations supporting Somalia's government and army.

Al-Shabab aims to drive out the peacekeepers, topple Somalia's Western-backed government and impose a strict version of Islam.

Your are a special breed of tribalistic Nigerian,
CNS is not from the North not to even assume his Hausa, yet u came with ur useless rant on operation code. Ur insults shows ur immaturity and indiscipline.

The military has moved ahead of ur tribalism check the NA under Buratai key operational positions in Army are held by so called outsiders(Using ur tribalistic view) bc the had the qualification to hold such (eg OPs lafiya Dole).
giles14 the people of Ops Lafiya Dole theater are not hausas yet the operation to liberated them is in Hausa. It doesn't change the reality on ground.
