One thing that is becoming very apparent in both the NA and the NAF is the orientation towards Drones as a means of an Intel gathering machines. The NA and NAF will do well as a matter of National Security to have a dedicated Military Satellite with two Intel gathering centers one in Abuja and the other in Lagos. |

20 suspected Al-Shabaab members arrested in Mogadishu At least 20 people suspected to be members of Islamist group Al-Shabaab were arrested in an operation in the Somali capital of Mogadishu on Saturday night, police said. Banadir region police chief, Bashir Abshir Gedi, told journalists that troops from the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) and Somali soldiers carried out the operation in Hamar Jajab and Waberi districts in Mogadishu to hunt down Al-Shabaab suspects. “These people (suspects) were planning attacks on the city but our intelligence helped us arrest them before they could do anything,” Xinhua quoted Gedi as saying. Al-Shabaab has been fighting against the Somali government for years, staging frequent attacks in the country. The operation comes as Mogadishu prepares for presidential election scheduled for November 30. Parliamentary elections are ongoing in various parts of the country. AMISOM and Somali forces have beefed up security in Mogadishu ahead of the election, erecting security barriers and putting up checks on vehicles during day and night. |

bidexiii:the buttstock can be very confusing |
Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by Nobody: 12:43pm On Nov 21, 2016 |
bidexiii: The problem is the buttstock. The rifles born out of the AK-47, still share those roots. Now, Soldier preferences determine what sort of finishing would be best suited for thier rifles. These are custom job carbines. The FG only ordered rifles from 2 countries. Upgraded AK-74 rifles from Arsenal CO, Bulgaria for the Army, and 2000 Beryl carbines from Poland for NSA. |

Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by bidexiii: 2:29pm On Nov 21, 2016 |
Odunayaw: Exactly. And it will be a standard issue for every infantry soldier :- something similar to the AK-74M. It comes it polymer with rails for optical sights. And the only way to achieve these is by getting a king of patent right to produce an AK version from Russia or China and we are good to go. 1 Like |

East African Community launches joint military training Defence Cabinet Secretary Defence Raychelle Omamo on Friday launched joint field training for over 2,000 military officers from East African Community (EAC) member states in Kwale County. The one-week exercise aims at training the officers in planning and conducting peace support operations, disaster management, counter-terrorism and counter-piracy. Speaking during the launch of the exercise, called "Ushirikiano Imara 2016" at the Matuga School of Government on Friday, Ms Omamo said the region shares the same history and culture and also has the same aspirations for peace, security and prosperity. She noted that the excellent cooperation between EAC defence forces is a key driver of regional integration. “This training exercise is aimed at enhancing the participant’s capacity in collectively addressing the emerging complex security challenges confronting our region,” she said. The minister said the distinct goals of the exercise are to improve inter-operability between EAC military forces and other key stakeholders and enhance their readiness in response to complex challenges, to strengthen cooperation and to practice commanders and staff of the employment of combined joint forces. REGIONAL APPROACH “Learning has no limit. Indeed trainings such as the present one are to continuously improve the performances of our defence forces. "By the end of this exercise we expect participants to be endowed with new competencies and capabilities in the furtherance of peace and security in the region,” she said. Vice-Chief of Defence Forces Lt-Gen Joseph Kasaon said that with increasing terror threats, the training is crucial. Mr Kasaon singled out Somalia-based terrorist group Al-Shabaab as the major threat in East Africa, saying it can be dealt with through a concerted regional approach. “I am so glad that the exercise has captured the area of terrorism, piracy and disaster management so that we can continue to strengthen our ability to intervene as a region,” he said. Peter Kiguta, the director-general of customs and trade at the East Africa Community, said participants are trained on the EAC protocol on operations in defence affairs. He added that the exercise is in line with a series of similar operations conducted in different EAC member states, with the last edition having taken place in Burundi in 2014. “I would like to wish the participants a very successful exercise and also ask them to take the training very seriously considering the challenges we are facing,” he said. Odunayaw: If you look at the buttstock you'll get confused. Always look at the muzzle break. If the muzzle break is different, then you'll know it's a different rifle. |
