AIR MARSHAL AMAO WINGS 25 NEW PILOTS TO ENHANCE NAF’S COMBAT READINESS7 September, 2021

Pilot training in the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) received further boost with the recent winging of 25 additional pilots comprising 20 Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) pilots and 5 fixed and rotary wing aircraft pilots. Speaking during the winging ceremony at NAF Headquarters, the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Amao specifically expressed his delight at the winging of UAV pilots as UAVs, unlike manned aircraft, offer relatively lower costs of procurement, operation, and maintenance as well as a capability to undertake high risk operations. With the recent acquisition of new platforms for the NAF, the CAS noted that the increased manpower base of both manned and unmanned pilots would be critical to NAF’s future operations. According to Air Marshal Amao, “All these efforts at pilots training are aimed at maintaining combat readiness at significantly higher levels to counter both domestic and foreign threats to the nation’s security and wellbeing of our people.” Air Marshal Oladayo Amao also disclosed that more pilots as well as personnel from other specialties were attending various trainings both at home and abroad. These efforts, according to him, are expected to place the NAF in a dominant position to deliver on its constitutional role especially in the light of its involvement in several counter insurgency and anti-banditry operations across the country.

Speaking further, Air Marshal Amao noted that the NAF currently has a total of 169 officers and airmen/airwomen undergoing diverse training courses overseas cutting across several specialties and trades. Out of this number, according to the CAS, 44 are student pilots who are undergoing training in South Africa, the United States as well as in NAF training facilities in Kano and Kaduna. The CAS also revealed that a set of 21 officers will soon resume UAV training at the 401 FTS, Kaduna and are projected to complete their training by March 2022. He added that, under his watch as the CAS, the NAF has also developed a formal capacity to train UAV Pilots from Ab-Initio to tactical level of flying. Despite these achievements, the CAS noted that the NAF cannot afford to rest on its oars in training its personnel for improved operational effectiveness. “This is in view of the Federal Government’s determination in acquiring state of the art weaponry to enable the Armed Forces of Nigeria combat the numerous security challenges in the Country”, he added. Air Marshal Amao also paid glowing tribute to the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari for his unwavering commitment and support to the development and enhancement of the entire Armed Forces of Nigeria.

While giving the highlights of the training content, the Chief of Training and Operations (CTOP), Air Vice Marshal (AVM) James Gwani disclosed that of the 25 winged pilots, 17 had completed the UAV Course 3 while 3 completed the CH-3A UAV Operational Conversion Course locally at 401 Flying Training School (FTS), Kaduna. The 5 fixed and rotary wing pilots, on the other hand, completed the L-39 Basic and Advanced Pilot Training at the Centre of Flying Training of the Czech Air Force, Czech Republic. They also underwent training at the Basic Military Helicopter as well as Mission and Tactics Training at United States Army Aviation Flight School, Fort Rucker and Western Army Aviation Training Site, Arizona, United States. For the UAV training, AVM Gwani further stated that the Course was divided into 3 phases; the ground academics, UAV initial flying and Basic UAV training phase and entailedd each officer flying the minimum requirement of an average of 45 hours comprising 10 hours actual and 35 hours simulator flight hours at the initial flying phase. “The Basic UAV training phase involved 40 hours internal UAV pilot training on UAV mission planning and execution, emergency procedures, position reporting as well as external and internal pilot coordination amongst others”, he said. The L-39 Basic and Advanced Pilot Training was however conducted in 2 phases: Basic Flying Training and Advanced Flying phase. According to AVM Gwani, the officers flew an average of 60 hours on the L-39 aircraft in the Basic Flying training phase before proceeding to the Advanced flying training phase. He further stated that the Advanced flying training phase consisted of 80 instructional flight hours covering medium and low-level formation flying, Strike training comprising single and two ship as well as introduction to basic fighter manoeuvre offensive and defensive. In all, according to the CTOP, the officers had an average of 140 hours of actual flying. I am glad to state that the average pass mark of the entire course was 80 percent.” he concluded.

Recall that barely 2 months ago, precisely on16 July 2021, the CAS winged 6 young NAF helicopter pilots, who had completed their basic flying training at Draken Helicopter Academy, United Kingdom. These trainings are part of efforts to enhance the operational readiness of the NAF as noted by the CAS when he stated that, “The most critical airpower capability that must be enhanced and sustained for effective and efficient performance is the human being that operates the air platforms"

I say again, the only answer is to wipe them out or else they will keep spreading like a cancer. We must purge our land of ALL terrorists.

I've never believe Nigeria can be islamise or christianise.

GMB was treating this guys with soft hand, while he was dealing with IPOB that were not killing anybody with iron fist.

A media house even tried to show him a video of policemen shooting at unarmed civilians in one of the state in the south east, the man refused to watch the video. But this same man challenged the Governor of Oyo state in the early 2000, accusing the Governor of not doing anything about the way Fulanis were been killed in the Oke-ogun axis of Oyo state

But he was doing absolutely nothing about fulanis wrecking havoc all over Nigeria. I'm not sure again sef, you're one of the people saying both farmers and herdsmen are the cause.

I saw the kind of havoc this guys caused in a community in Ekiti. Dem go carry cows com chop your farmlands as if is thier right to do so. And the FG under GMB go dey find stupid explanation give. It got to a point people were abandoning their farmlands and in some places, people were even leaving their homes.

MACBAN go even com out boadly and defend the atrocities been committed by the heardsmen.

The Governor's in the NW like El-Rufai even came out and said the FG is not doing enough about the Bandits issue.

It seems the major reason this operation is taking place is because the NDA was attacked, because, a lot of communities have been ransacked, people sent away from their communities with their properties and farmlands been destroyed.

In a community have forgotten the names in Benue state, they chased fulanis away from their community because of the way they do destroy their farmlands boadly and still kidnap locals of this community. The Fulani militias attacked the community and sent everybody from the community away. Fulanis occupied the community with their cows, while the indigenes of the community became IDPs in another community. In fact, I think there is a video evidence of this on channels if anybody interested in knowing about it can search.

Just imagine say nah IPOB dey overrun towns this way grin

Make we forget this matter jawe.

Day Lam Adesina clashed with Buhari, Marwa,
November 18, 2012

By Agbaakin Kehinde Olaosebikan

Alhaji Lam Onaolapo Adesina,Oyo State governor from May 29, 1999 to May 29, 2003, passed on to glory on Sunday, 11, November, aged 73 years. Lam rose to the pinnacle of all his callings in life. He got to the zenith of his career as a teacher; as a social crusader, he got state recognition and was tagged a ‘prisoner of war’. Politically, he did not only realize his ambition of becoming the governor of his state, he achieved the extra ordinary by installing a governor, not while in power but eight years after he had left office.

Since Sunday, torrents of tributes have been pouring in from various quarters all extolling the virtues of Alhaji Adesina . He has been described in many superlative words, establishing the fact that he was a great man. But how great really was the husband of the benign Alhaja Sarat Adeola Adesina? As his Chief Press Secretary while he served as the governor of Oyo State, I will transmit a story of how he disciplined a former military Head of State and prevented what could have led to the Nigerian second civil war.

It was on 13 October 2000, when words went round that General Muhammadu Buhari was leading the Arewa team to the governor’s office to confront the state over alleged killings of Fulani cattle rearers in Saki, Oke Ogun Area of the state. Buhari did actually telephone the governor that he was leading a team to his office.

In less than 30 minutes after the general informed the governor of his visit, we noticed that the entire secretariat was already filled with lorry loads of our brothers from the North. This created some tension but we kept our calm. At about 2 p.m., Buhari arrived in a long convoy at the governor’s office in company of the former governor of Lagos State, General Buba Marwa, Alhaji Aliko Muhammed, Alhaji Abdulrazak and Alhaji Hassan. They all wore long faces. In fact, the anger in them was palpable as all pleasantries extended to them were ignored. “This is trouble” was the expression on the faces of all of us in the governor’s office.

Shortly afterwards, the state Director of State Security Service (SSS) and Commissioner of Police arrived. But their presence did not change anything particular on the fears that had already gripped majority of us. The two security chiefs did not come with any operatives, they came almost alone.

Late Lam Adesina Photo NAN
The meeting was called to order after Lam walked into the Executive Chambers. Introductions over, Buhari spoke on their mission to the governor’s office. Emitting fire, the general accused Lam and the government of Oyo State of complicity in the killing of over 68 Fulani people in Oke Ogun area and perversion of justice.

His words: “Your Excellency, our visit here is to discuss with you and your government our displeasure about the incident of clashes between two peoples… the Fulani cattle rearers and merchants are today being harassed , attacked and killed like in Saki. In the month of May, 2000, 68 bodies of Fulani cattle rearers were recovered and buried under the supervision and protection from a team of Mobile Police from Oyo State Command.

“ That some arrests were made by Oyo State Police Command in the massacre with their immediate release without court trial. This was said to have been ordered by Oyo State authorities and they were so released to their amazement. The release of the arrested suspects gave the clear impression that the authorities are backing and protecting them to continue the unjust and illegal killings of Fulani cattle rearers…”

According to the general, they therefore wanted immediate stoppage of the killings, justice and compensation to the Fulanis.

As weighty and indicting as Buhari’s allegations were, Lam remained unperturbed. He fired back with his own well coordinated arsenals.

Lam identified all the points raised by Buhari and simply asked the heads of the organizations directly involved to respond to the allegations.

First to speak was the Commissioner of Police who debunked all the claims. Instead of the allegation that the natives were killing Fulanis, the commissioner said pointedly that the opposite was the case.

“ The killing of the natives by the Fulanis was duly reported to the police and, of course, we can’t make arrest because, as soon as they kill, they migrate to other areas. Who are you going to arrest? That is the problem”. On the killing of Fulanis, which he said was as result of “piled up anger”, the commissioner disclosed that arrests had been made and the suspects were in police custody.

Next was the Director of SSS, who equally debuked the allegations by Buhari. “The natives don’t have problem with the Fulanis who are resident but those who are coming in, they don’t care about anybody. They just go ahead and when they graze the natives farms, whoever cares to challenge them runs into trouble. You said 68 people were killed , and people driven away. I am not saying there were no killings but they cannot be more than five. The petition is on the harsh side, there is nothing like that.”

Not done yet, Lam called in his Deputy, Barrister Iyiola Oladokun; his SSG, Chief Michael Koleoso, both from Oke Ogun, and the chairman of one of the affected local government areas, Mr Ademola Alalade. They stated the true position of things, corroborating the submissions of the security chiefs. At this point, all the tensions and apprehensions evaporated.

Trust Lam any day, he must rub it in. He spoke for about 20 minutes and the generals were at the edge of their seats for the entire period. They were like chicken that had just been thoroughly beaten by the rain.

Lam said: “ Before I thank you for this visit, you have come to tell me something. I also want to tell you something and that something is to make an appeal. General Buhari has been a former Head of State, Brigadier Marwa has governed Lagos for some time and with credibility… so you are national leaders of this country. Even though, by accident of birth, you are from the North, you can be born anywhere; may be next time when I am coming to the world, I will be born in the North or the South-South.

“My appeal will be that effort must be made to unite this country and that will be ïn the best interest of all Nigerians. I am appealing to the Arewa Consultative Forum, under which auspices our distinguished Nigerians are here; in recent times, they have been sending wrong signals to a number of us who believe in the unity and peace of Nigeria; you have been too critical of the efforts of the Federal Government. I am saying this because Nigeria, at this point, cannot afford to break and the words you northern leaders utter are very weighty, at the South here, we normally analyze them critically”.

On all the allegations, he said: “From what they have written in the petition, this government is completely blameless because we don’t interfere either with the judiciary or with the police functions. I always preach peaceful co-existence in Oyo State and Nigeria as a whole. We are all Nigerians and that is what we have been preaching all along and we shall continue to be Nigerians , no matter the present or immediate problems which will be solved by the grace of Allah.

“I want to say also that we really have to appeal to our people, the itinerant Bororo people, that they should observe less aggression. It is not good , it is not right just coming from somewhere then you just pass through farm lands cultivated may be with the person’s life savings and then over night everything is gone. That is not right, even Allah does not approve of that.

We even wonder when they talk about this people carrying dangerous weapons, I say do they really believe in Allah? When you just take life like that and go away! Are we not forbidden not to take human life? So I think General Buhari, General Marwa, you have to be educating them… It is my pleasure to inform you that at the Presidential Lodge, we have made some arrangements for refreshments so that before you go we can refresh together”.

Buhari and his team did not wait for any refreshments. They came in angry and left bewildered. ADIEU! GREAT LAM!

Make we forget this matter jawe.
grin As I've said, Justice or something close to it is probably the best form of reconciliation in this country. As far as man remains he'd have his bias even when justice is served

Foreigners killing Nigerians in Nigeria shocked i blame Immigration for not for doing their jobs
The chicken is always coming to roost in Nigeria. If MDAs were simply doing their constituted jobs, this country would have been a better place

There is farmers-herders crises and then there is the issue with banditry. They are two different things. Herders have been existing in the south for several decades largely without conflicts until about 30 years ago when we started seeing a rise in farmers-herders crisis. This was why GEJ released around #100 billion to state governors in 2014 to establish ranches, the state governments collected the funds and today are preventing herders from going about their businesses without establishing the ranches they received money for.

On the other hand, the herders are one of the biggest victims of bandits who started with cattle rustling and who have rustled thousands of cattles owned by herders, throwing many into poverty and killing others

The banditry issue became worse after being neglected for several years. Some of these bandits have been killing and stealing as far back as 2008. And it has also been receiving a lot of media attention in recent years unlike before.
Below is a link to a BBC report of bandit attack in 2012.

We just politicize every issue in this country and shy away from addressing them.

You de whyne yourself. 98% are what? You think you're talking to a novice? They're mostly traditionalists.

I dare say there is almost an equal number of Christians and Muslim in the Fulani community.
they are Muslims sir. Nigeria is not the only. Country that has this problem..

Fulani and dozo tribe in Mali are at war cuz of this. Dozo are mainly traditionalists and they blame Fulani for imposing jihad on them. They are Muslims, the ones in aghfanistan, Syria, Mozambique, Somalia, Mali, etc are all Muslims. Let's stop telling lies to our selves.

Fulani are majorly Muslim. In fact, I have never heard of Christian Fulani in my life before.
