The Chief of Air Staff, Oladayo Amao, says it will require the collaboration of the armed forces and other security agencies to end insecurity in Nigeria.

The Chief of Air Staff, Oladayo Amao, has said the Super Tucano fighter jets recently acquired by the Force alone cannot end the country’s security challenges without the collaboration of the ground troops.

The Air Chief stated this on Wednesday in Abuja at a meeting with select editors of Nigerian newspapers.

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) had last month taken delivery of the second batch of six A-29 Super Tucano aircraft from the United States.

The first batch also comprising six aircraft was delivered in July.

Before taking the delivery, the Air Force had disclosed last year that air fighters from Nigeria were already in the U.S. receiving additional training on the usage and the applications of the jets when eventually added to the fleet of combat aircraft.

The aircraft are expected to aid the fight against insecurity in the North-east and other parts of the country.

After extensive discussions with the U.S. government, President Muhammadu Buhari in April 2018 placed an order for the aircraft.

He had said the procurement would help strengthen Nigeria’s national security, as well as a timely end to the Boko Haram war.

In a letter he wrote to the National Assembly, the president said the Nigerian government transferred $469.4 million to the U.S. government for the purchase.

The matter then became a subject of controversy when the funds were released before approval by the National Assembly.

Apart from the Tucano fighter jets, Nigeria is also expecting other fighter jets from Pakistan.

Super Tucano alone not sufficient

Explaining the efficiency of the aircraft, Mr Amao, an air marshal, stated that the Super Tucano aircraft alone cannot do the fight without the ground troops.

He said the armed forces are already in collaboration to put an end to the lingering insecurity bedeviling the country.

“Yes the Super Tucanos have brought in a lot of bites to the fight and I can tell you for a fact that as we speak now, the airplanes are operating in the North-east.

Just yesterday, I had a meeting with the commander out there and the vendors who supplied us the air planes to review the operations of the aircraft and I can tell you for a fact that there is a very positive response as to the effectiveness of the operations of those airplanes in the theatre of operations.

“I also want to clarify something here that air power alone cannot win this war, it will take a collective efforts like the Chief of Defence Staff has said, the military, civil society organisations, and all other stakeholders.

“So while the Super Tucano is going to play a very prominent role, let’s not sit back and think that the Super Tucano also is going to end this war. It is not going to happen, it is going to be a collective effort,” the Air Force Chief said.

The Nigerian Government have been coming out to deny there was a massacre, even the army denied they were at lekki toll gate grin

But me don move on sha cool

Well, Super Tucanos can't end the insecurity problems we have in Nigeria right now.

Bandits still dey challenge the army to a duel with all this Super Tucanos grin

Wetin concern Yardua amnesty program for MEND with Boko Haram, IPOB and Bandits?

So OBJ was not using overwhelming force against MEND? grin

GMB have not been using overwhelming force against ISWAP and Boko Haram too abi?

There was a time, if IPOB members dey organise a peaceful protest, Nigerian army go don show up immediately and start shooting straight at them.

In fact, IPOB members that were organising a peaceful meeting in a school, soldiers and Policemen went to the school and start shooting them dead. A foreign media house tried to show GMB the video of security personnel shooting dead armless and peaceful IPOB members, he refused to watch the video.

What kind of overwhelming force should dey have used back then?

During OBJ, almost all the necessary weapons you can think of were used in engaging MEND. We saw one of the result of the brute force in Odi, the incident in Odi didn't stop militants from attacking security personnel, it just embolden them the more.

If a full blown war start in the Niger Delta, the economy of Nigeria will totally collapse, there is no way the military will stop MEND from unleashing hell on the pipelines.

Thank God Yardua was a smart man.

GMB was thinking like you and decided to stop paying the militant... Who begged him to start paying again? He saw Operation Crocodile was not effective in stopping Avengers from bombing the pipeline.

See, facts dey ground... No argument for all this talk.

GMB didn't handle the IPOB issue well at all just the way he failed to address the issue of Fulani heardsmen. The man is incompetent.

Nigeria Receives Last Batch Of A-29 Super Tucano Aircraft

The new arrivals are part of a deal comprising 12 A-29 Super Tucano Turboprop aircraft from the United States to boost the capacity of the Nigerian Air Force.

Nigeria has received the last batch of A-29 Super Tucano turboprop aircraft manufactured in the United States for the country’s Air Force to support combat operations against armed groups.

The last batch of six Super Tucano aircraft landed at Mallam Aminu Kano International on Wednesday, Sept. 29, after departing U.S. Moody Air Force in mid September, leapfrogging through several stops enroute Nigeria.

The aircraft arrived about two months after the first batch of six aircraft in desert and jungle camouflage scheme alongside a Donier support aircraft arrived at Kano Airport on July 22, 2021.

U.S. Department of Defense officials attended the induction ceremony of the last batch in late August at the Presidential Air Fleet Apron, Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

“This ceremony symbolizes the strength of our unique partnership and underscores the value of training and working together,” said Gen. Jeff Harrigian, U.S. Air Forces in Europe-Air Forces Africa commander.

The A-29 Super Tucano is considered a reliable and cost-effective solution for basic and advanced combat flight training, close air support operations, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR), armed overwatch, counterinsurgency, and irregular warfare.

In 2018, Embraer Defense, Security and Sierra Nevada Corporation were awarded the contract to manufacture and deliver 12 A-29 Super Tucano to the Nigerian Air Force.

The deal followed payment for the aircraft and support services by the Nigerian government from the security intervention fund withdrawn from the country’s Excess Crude Account (ECA).

The aircraft will be stationed at the Air Force base in Kainji, Niger State, North-central Nigeria where support facilities have been constructed after a $36.1 million contract to the US Army Corps of Engineers, Europe District.

OK then, enjoy what your country has become. Just remember to parcel about N1tr as amnesty for bandits every year. A number of them should be made billionaires and get contracts guarding the forests their operating from. The worst of the kidnappers should be turbanned. All this because they were "armed by politicians during elections and the guns were not collected from the hungry and jobless boys after elections"... or whatever other nonsense your country has accepted as a valid argument for crimes against the state in the early 2000s.

Many of them will definitely go rogue, even within the police force and the military we have lot's of rogue personnels, but with adequate oversight and management, meaningful results will still be achieved.
And these militias will be under community leaders and traditional rulers so if a particular section is giving you problems, you know who to hold responsible or go after.
I don't know how Osun state did it with the harmonized vigilante group which is under the supervision of the police force and they've been really effective.

. Bro you and I know there's no such thing as Adequate oversight and management in Nigeria. If we had oversight we would have predicted all these insecurity challenges long before now and duly plan appropriate techniques to manage the situation. Nigeria can't even properly oversee and manage it's armed forces.

Nigeria's Security Challenge is no doubt a serious concern everywhere now with Banditry, Kidnapping, Assassination and Crisis across the nation. And this blowing scourge has shown that no one is safe anymore including our leaders.

This video of the country's Defence of Minister, Gen. Bashir Magashi carrying a gun himself, when he has tons of Army Officers around him shows that self defence may be the in thing in no distance future.

The Big Question now, is that if the Minister could carry Gun, what becomes the lot of many helpless and Defendless General public? Will they allow us to be securing ourselves too?

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the continuation of recruitment of 10,000 police officers annually for the next six years.

Buhari stated that the move was part of efforts to strengthen the security agencies in the fight against banditry and other criminal activities ravaging the country.

The Nigerian leader made this known on Friday in his speech delivered on national broadcast as part of activities to mark the 2021 Independence Day.

The president also revealed that Nigerian armed forces have recently recruited over 17,000 personnel to tackle the security menace.

According to him, “To support our surge approach to fighting banditry, the Nigerian Armed Forces have recruited over 17,000 personnel across all ranks.

“Furthermore, I have also approved for the Nigerian Police Force to recruit 10,000 police officers annually over the next six years”.

DAILY POST recalls that the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, on Tuesday, hinted that the Nigeria Police will soon begin the recruitment of 20,000 junior police officers.

The IGP who gave the hint when he paid a working visit to Governor Seyi Makinde in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, revealed that the force has been able to overcome all the issues that had been delaying the recruitment process.

For those recommending negotiations and dialogues with some of these armed groups, we first need to understand that for any negotiation to be successful, the country must be willing to give the armed groups some things. Now what do these people want, can the country give it to them, what else can the country give that will satisfy them?

Southern Kaduna Christians are the most prayerful people in Nigeria. I know they will become more secure the day they wake up to the reality and arm themselves. The bandits see them as easy prey.
