I beg to differ
That is, to me the least of it. The budget of the Army is too weak to support their operations, welfare and modernization. The ideal size of NA based on its purse should be quite less than what we have now

All the arms of the military and other security agency budget size is too weak/little for a country fighting terrorism.

But see what the airforce is doing through R & D and it's really paying off. Yes the armies budget is weak but little one they are given is not properly used lipsrsealed lipsrsealed lipsrsealed

OPERATIONAL VISIT: CHIEF OF AIR STAFF TOURS NIGERIAN AIR FORCE UNITS IN KATSINA STATE, EXPRESSES SATISFACTION WITH ONGOING OPERATIONS IN THE NORTH WEST

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, on 28 August 2018, undertook an operational visit to Nigerian Air Force (NAF) units in Katsina State to get first-hand updates on the progress of Operation DIRAN MIKIYA as well as assess facilities at the Presidential Helipad and NAF Quick Response Wing (QRW) in Daura. The CAS, who was accompanied on the visit by other senior officers from NAF Headquarters, was received at the Umar Musa Yaradua International Airport Katsina by the Air Officer Commanding Special Operations Command (AOC SOC), Air Vice Marshal Samson Akpasa.

While briefing the CAS in Katsina, the Air Task Force (ATF) Commander Operation DIRAN MIKIYA, Air Commodore Ayoola Jolasinmi, noted that the Task Force had flown over 300 hours since the operation began on 31 July 2018 and had recorded several successful missions, neutralizing many of the armed bandits and destroying several of their camps. As a result, the bandits had been denied freedom of action and could no longer mass up to attack innocent civilians. This, he noted, had resulted in substantially restoring peace in the affected areas.Responding, the CAS expressed satisfaction with the progress of the effort and urged the ATF to sustain the momentum of operations.

The CAS, along with other senior officers, then proceeded to Daura where he expressed satisfaction with the state of facilities at the Presidential Helipad and NAF QRW Daura. The CAS also paid a courtesy visit to the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Farouk Umar, at his Palace. During the visit, the Emir expressed delight with NAF’s tremendous achievements in the war against insurgency in the Northeast as well as the significant strides recorded in the fight against armed banditry in the Northwestern part of the country, through Operation DIRAN MIKIYA. He said he was also impressed with the humanitarian services provided by the NAF in various crises areas including the medical outreach undertaken for over 2,000 flood victims in Jibia, Katsina State from 25 – 27 July 2018 as well as the medical outreach for about 4,500 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Shinkafi, Zamfara State in early August. He therefore commended the CAS for his admirable leadership of the Service and prayed for continued wisdom for the successful execution of his laudable initiatives.

The CAS had earlier thanked the Emir for the continued support the NAF had enjoyed from the good people of the Daura Emirate and pledged the commitment of the Service towards ensuring peace and stability in the country. He stressed that NAF’s achievements were made possible due to the immense support given by the Federal Government under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari. He stated that this had facilitated the acquisition of 18 brand new aircraft, with an additional 12 being expected. Air Marshal Abubakar noted that the last time such a large number of aircraft was inducted into the Service was in the early 1980s. He said the increase in number of aircraft had enabled the NAF to effectively project air power in multiple theatres of operations with tangible results. He concluded by assuring the Emir that the NAF would continue to fulfil its constitutional mandate while working assiduously towards the overall development of the nation.

CAS TASKS OFFICERS TO GENERATE INNOVATIVE IDEAS, AS NIGERIAN AIR FORCE WAR COLLEGE GRADUATES THIRD SET OF PARTICIPANTS

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Baba Abubakar, has tasked officers to generate new ideas and provide innovative solutions that would give competitive advantage to Nigeria over its adversaries. The CAS gave the charge today, 31 August 2018, during the graduation ceremony of the third set of participants of the Nigerian Air Force War College (NAFAWC) Makurdi. The 19 graduating participants, who are of the rank of Wing Commander and its equivalent in the other Services, had undergone 6 months of intensive training in the application of Air Power in both joint and independent operations. They comprised 16 senior officers from the NAF, one from the Nigerian Army (NA) and 2 from the Nigerian Navy (NN).

Speaking during the graduation, Air Marshal Abubakar, who was the Guest of Honour at the ceremony, congratulated the graduating participants for surmounting yet another hurdle in the quest for excellence. He noted that the current NAF leadership placed high premium on capacity building initiatives aimed at developing competencies and skills of personnel of all specialties in order to add value to efforts at ensuring the security of lives and properties of Nigerians. The CAS further stated that the quality of personnel would, to a large extent, determine the effectiveness of the Service in meeting critical considerations for Nigeria’s defence and national security imperatives.

While challenging the graduating participants to bring to bear the skills and lessons acquired during the course in their future deployments, the CAS stressed that they needed to exploit clear and critical thinking to produce vigorous, thoughtful and innovative approaches, thereby adding value in the way things are done. He opined that the complex battlespace in counterinsurgency and counter terrorism operations, requires precision in targeting as well as effective coordination with surface forces while understanding the limitations of Air Power. The CAS stated that he was happy that the College had adequately equipped the participants with the knowledge to navigate this complex landscape. Speaking further, Air Marshal Abubakar said the Service, on its part, would continue to support the activities of the College, within the limits of available resources, to provide realistic and result-oriented training. According to the CAS, the College was established to bridge the gap in the quality of workforce that transit from the tactical to the operational and strategic levels in the NAF. “I am happy to note that the pioneer graduates of this College who recently graduated from the National Defence College (NDC) performed excellently on the course. I am therefore, optimistic that in the near future, the Service will begin to feel the impact of establishing this College through better application of strategic planning and implementation of doctrines to move the NAF to greater heights”, the CAS said. Air Marshal Abubakar appreciated the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Muhammadu Buhari, whose support and exemplary leadership in the face of contending economic priorities made the establishment of the College realizable.

Earlier in his welcome address, the outgoing Commandant of the College, Air Vice Marshal James Baba, thanked the CAS for his initiative and tenacity that led to the establishment of the College on 5 September 2016. He equally expressed the appreciation of the College for the encouragement and support that had enabled it to continue to broaden the knowledge and capacity of successive sets of participants in air operations while also providing impetus for enhanced inter-Service coordination during joint operations. He advised the graduands to continue to build their capacities even after graduation, as knowledge acquisition is a continuous process.

The Air War Course 3/2018 was inaugurated on 15 February 2018 to equip participants with general knowledge on warfare with emphasis on Air Power. The NAFAWC, which is the highest military training institution in the NAF, also seeks to equip officers with in-depth understanding of how to translate national strategic objectives into operational directives. During the Course, participants were taught Air Power Principles and Concepts, Warfare Studies, Fundamentals of Strategy, Warfighting and Wargaming as well as Land and Maritime Warfare Studies.

One of the highlights of the ceremony was the presentation of prizes to participants who had distinguished themselves during the course. Wing Commander Abdullahi Abu received the CAS’ Award for emerging first in order of merit on the course and also bagged the Commandant’s Award for the Best Individual Research Project. Wing Commander Valentine Oraeki won the Best in Air Power Award while Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Adamu won the CAS’ Award as the Best Graduating Participant from Sister Services.

The earlier the better; personally I didn't want Nigeria buying hardwares from United States, they are very expensive.

The earlier we start doing serious business with Russia, China and eastern European countries. We should learn from Egypt, they are no longer buying hardwares from the United States again like before.

NIGERIAN AIR FORCE DESTROYS BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS VEHICLES, NEUTRALIZES SEVERAL INSURGENTS AT ZARI IN BORNO STATE

The Air Task Force (ATF) of Operation LAFIYA DOLE, yesterday, 30 August 2018, destroyed 2 gun trucks and neutralized several Boko Haram Terrorists (BHTs) at ZARI on the fringes of the Lake Chad in Borno State. The air strikes were conducted sequel to intelligence reports indicating that dozens of BHTs in 5 vehicles had withdrawn to a location underneath some trees about 5 Km Southwest of ZARI, after an engagement with own troops at ZARI. Accordingly, the ATF deployed Alpha Jet and F-7 attack aircraft as well as an Mi-35M helicopter gunship supported by 2 Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platforms to conduct a massive attack against the insurgents.

Overhead the target area, the BHTs, who were initially seen assembled by their vehicles along the road, rapidly dispersed to disparate positions within the general area, with some of them seen firing at own platforms. The NAF attack aircraft therefore struck the various positions in successive coordinated waves; destroying 2 of the BHTs’ vehicles and neutralizing several BHTs in the process. Some of the surviving insurgents were seen fleeing the location in different directions. These were accordingly mopped-up in subsequent follow-on attacks.

The NAF will continue to deploy its platforms to conduct intensive ISR missions in the entire Northeast aimed at discovering the possible locations of remnants of BHTs and neutralizing them.
