GEJ gave this woman a blank cheque to operate the economy and she ran it aground. Now she is in Wshinghton enuciating policies she could not practicalize in the over five years she was in complete control of the Nigerian economy. Perhaps her thinking is that if she spoke from the citadel of the World Bank she would suceed in getting the in-coming administration so mesmerised that they would renew her appointment. Ngozi Wahala its better you realise finally that your own done finish for Naija. You better remain in Washinghton for the rest of your gaulible life. The only person you could ever hope to mesmerise is Jonathan from whom God hs already rescued us. You better stay where you are, when we need you to account for all your misdeeds we shall send for you. I know Obama would not hestitate to ship you back.
dis was deir plan if GEJ had won because dey would have nothing to lose.

The issue is, in what way has her staying on made us become better?

Why stay on when you're hardly able to make any meaningful impact?

Do you know that she has lost a lot of respect and honour by staying on with GEJ's regime which is known to be a failure generally?

Do you know that Barth Nnaji who resigned for some personal reasons (which we know had to do with how the government was handling the power sector privatization) still has his honor and respect intact?. Same can surely not be said of NOI.
So she sacrificed her reputation to serve her country and "do her best" rather than return to her enviable position at World Bank. You just made my point!
Barth Nnaji is in his village with his integrity, while Prof. Nebo is calling the shots (For better or for worse; don't really understand power reforms). NOI has made a positive impact on the Nigerian economy. She's fought hard for many reforms. Some battles she won, some she lost understandably because she ain't an elected office holder. She published FAAC remittance to states. She introduced e-payments to eliminate graft via ghost workers. There was a time she even held up NASS members allowances. She has always been a vocal campaigner for greater punishment meted for corrupt officials (Her view of corruption is distinctly different from GEJ's own). My point is she did the best she could. Her legacy lives on.

Dis woman na one kain BABA OLORIBURUKU...

I don't even know where to start with this bi(t)ch. First of, increasing VAT is one of the fastest ways of increasing inflation. I remember vividly when Obasanjo pulled that stunt shortly before his exit in 2007. Prices of goods shot up by that corresponding 5% extra. Telephone tarrifs, hotel bills, consumables you name it.

Second, she confessed her fault by admitting that they sqandered evry little fund that came the governments way as against the practice during Obasanjo's regime when they built savings. Madam, we no be Reverend father, and this is no confession time id.iot

Next she was very narrow minded in her options. Before oil, on what was Nigeria surviving? Was it not the neglect of the real sector that led to the overdependence of oil? Why cant the government exploit other sectors of the economy like agriculture, solid minerals, tourism, etc?

Lastly, I am not against the government exploring the tax option. My take is that they should place more emphasis on luxury goods/items. e.g if you own a private jet, yatches, then be ready to pay thru your asss.

Stooopid, overhyped woman that has done nothing other than to inflict pain on the common man.

The foreign tax consultants' impact was $500m? Was this net of their commission or gross increase?
That's what we are saying, give Alpha Beta or the likes of it in Nigeria the contract......the tax net will be much more expanded (local knowledge), consequently more tax receipts; importantly, both the tax receipts and commission will stay within the Nigerian economy.

Mrs Iweala should seek for a position as a lecturer in a University so that she can mouth off on economic policies.

That's where she belongs: The talkers that cannot do squat.

Theory and Practical in social sciences dwell in two different worlds.

You are comparing a World Bank position with an annual salary of about $250k/year with a job as a minister in Nigeria where you have millions of dollars you can loot with a single stroke of pen and no one raises an eyelid? World Bank where she was a boss vs. Co-ordinating minister where is the boss of the bosses.

You don't know the meaning of sacrifice. The propaganda really worked on some of you

Increase taxes so y'all can get fatter, while we get thinner?

It's funny how y'all can quickly point to what obtains in sane countries with rose-tinted glasses . . . "5% . . .lowest in the world", in what world?

Oh she meant in those worlds where billions of $ don't evolve legs and wings, and elope?

Or those worlds where power, water, and other basic social amenities are readily available?

Or those worlds where the law is above everyone?

Never mind all the cacophony for diversification would soon whittle away: oil is $62+ and rising presently, and y'all would soon go back to looting unabated.

Naija be on the brink. Citizens don't m ow it but those in charge do. I am sure GMB peeps have told him and honestly I hope that they have started working on a plan to cushion the nation.

Its not going to be easy but the fear if being caught for corrupt practices would go a long way.

He should tackle the reps and senators then the top civil servants on account of monumental fraud that would be a good start.

Okonjo Iweala is clueless. The FG will have enough revenue if it blocks leakages. It takes a thief to catch a thief. The main reason why Lagos State was able to boost its revenues was it blocked leakages. e,g In the past with vehicle licence revenues were paid to government now you pay in the bank. This is the case for many other taxes and I wonder how mny offices in LASG still handle csh. Certainly there was a huge boosst with the Alpha Beta arrangement but I do not think this wiill be accepted at the FG level (but who knows this is Nigeria) Anyway the point is if we really focus on the Customs alone the FG will more than double its revenues if not even quadruple. There are many other agencies Like Lagos Airport I wonder whether it send returns to government. If Lagos state can do it how much more the FG that has all the power.

"She said considerable political will was exerted in the Olusegun Obasanjo administration to set funds aside for the Excess Crude Account and save for the rainy day. The then government was able to pull that through because there was no strong opposition then, pointing out that the vibrant opposition in the present dispensation and the tendency by the governments at the states’ level to always insist on sharing all government revenues, have combined to deplete the Excess Crude Account."

I'm sorry but WHAT THE ACTUAL Bleep is this wokka flokka ,polka dota talking about??

Did this woman really attend Harvard or was it their Abakaliki campus was studied at? Where and how does a vibrant opposition cause a country to lose money abeg? Jeez after this woman and her ilk removed fuel subsidies "partially" to better the lot of the common Nigerian but last I checked ...

You know what, she doesn't deserve my vitriol. All she deserves is her spot in Kirikiri Max.
