This is a business mogul actually the richest black man on earth who sees business opportunities where average business men don't. He has investments in south west and north and north central even across Africa. But none in igbo land.

Does it literally mean south east is unfavourable for big enterprises to rise?

That place has nothing to offer that business man called Dangote or any other business men in terms of human and natural resources.

No business man wants to invest his money where tribalism is their watchwords.

These people don't realise the level of damages they ve done to themselves and still doing to their unborn childs until they are on their own with no FDI in their newly found country called Biafra. Sudan ll be like New York to them.

Naturally, humans loathe people with chest beating attitude even heaven is not left out when it comes to chest beating people like Apes over nothing.

Honestly, most Nigerians have some aversion to staying or doing any business in the SE, as even compared to the SS. If I may ask you: Are you welcoming and not hostile to strangers?

I can assure you that Igbos would do worse than what South Africans are doing if opportunity present itself.

They treat strangers like........ except their girls.

In summary he has two plants in the north central, one in the South west.
Why not ask for his investments in his home region the North west before asking about the South east? What about North east? What about South south? He is only planning to set up one in Calabar, as of now he doesn't have any investment in the South South.

Stop using question to answer question monkey.

If you guys claim that your region is what you portray it to be which is obviously not, why is everybody running away from there like a cursed land?

Apart from Dangote, no other Nigerian from other part of the country has ever established any business in the East except your kinsmen. Doesn't that ring a bell to you?

Come to Lagos, Ogun, Ondo (not much) and Oyo states.

Haha lol!!!! Slowpoke on the run.........

The last time I was in your region, there is no difference btw that place and Juba in South Sudan for real. The only thing that exist as business at that place are guys with their normal shops like Alaba market or Wuse market

Hotels and shopping malls are the only business in the whole region and that was when I realised the reason why kidnapping became a good business in that part of the country.

No point arguing with you. Dangote controls the cement market in all regions in Nigeria followed by Larfage that comes in a distant second place. Ibeto accounts for less than 10% of the Nigerian market and they are not market leaders in any region.

So, when you talk about competition, don't mention Dangote and Ibeto in same sentence cos they are miles apart. Finally, if Dangote controls the cement market in the south east, I don't see any reason why he should not invest heavily in the region. In essence, he his short changing the south east by producing and creating jobs in another region and selling only to them. Stop the excuse please.
.
I was just reading through. Though I neglected your post initially, but I felt I should correct you of this impression.

I must say that Dangote cement does not have any say in the south east. I'm not here to argue, but just telling you facts.

I have supervised many construction works, in the south east, locals there prefer Ibeto then any other brand in fact they don't want to hear you talk about other brands because they feel that Ibeto has better quality than Dangote cement and that is true, I have tested it. Even so with evidence u hardly hear of building collapse in the south east.

From business and profits point of view, the SE is not and never the ideal place for any meaningful investment. The critical factors are not present to even start with? This is the reason why the little businesses they have in that region are not thriving.

1. Availability and access to raw materials

2. Safety and security

3. Access to major markets and consumers.

4. Conducive business environment and investment friendly local authorities

5. Access to skilled, motivated and educated labor.

Apart from Lagos state where igbos also hold elective positions. Which yoruba state presents anything near these above points you listed

Ofcourse, he is! A quota system billioniare who would have been an ordinary trader without the endless arm-twisting federal government policies that more or else turned him into a monopoly. . That guy moves around with a huge question mark the size of olumo rock hanging pricariously on his head. There is no competitive business/trade where he won't be manhandled and out-hustled in the east. But then if there is a word , your dangote loathes with passion, it is competition.

In economics, Dangote would be called a rent seeker.

This is someone who makes money through favouritism extended to him by government connection.

He may not be involved in contracts but getting the government to ban the importation of certain goods creates an unlevel playing by killing competition especially in an industry in which the nation lacks comparative advantage.

Other acts of rent seeking is when people buy government assets or licenses below their true value or those who benefit from import waivers.

With Ibeto,Guo,Innoson and very numerous businness tycoons already domiciled there it would be bad idea for Dangote to start there(he will be chewed raw by the stiff competition).....tis like asking GM to go fight for market dominance in Japan, the hometown of Honda,Toyota,KIA,Mitsubish etc....Tis good thinking to fight for dominance in the neutral grounds of Southwest and the rest of the country....You know how those slaves enjoy paid employment and pean nuts....no businness acumen, industry or competition.South West is every industrialist wet dream.

That post does not make sense. It's like asking Toyota, Suzuki,Nissan(Japanese cars), Citroën, Peugeot(French cars), Mercedes,BMW, Audi(German cars), Tesla, Jeep, GM(American cars) not to come to UK cos of Vauxhall and Ford.

The same Dangote took his business to countries where cements are being produced locally to compete with them.

The truth is bitter, you guys are just tribalistic people who would do everything to frustrate strangers from your land. Like I said earlier, South africans and you guys are the same but what makes the difference now is that you guys are yet to be presented a platform to do your own thing like south africans.

The irony is Dangote makes much of his profit via his distribution chain which isn't exclusive to his company but is deregulated to independent marketers......are you pondering what we are pondering?? Independent marketers....What tribe is massively invested in trading and businness?? Igbos...thus a wealthy Dangote means a healthy, wealthy marketing chain dominated by igbos especially in viable economic hubs of Southern Nigeria..It keeps getting better and better for the igbos.

Thanks my brother. I wonder how some of these people reason. If Dangote employs his brothers and he is paying them 100k and the igbo distributors are selling his products and making profits in millions, who is having a better deal here?

And if Dangote manufactures, will the product sell itself? Even Dangote will laugh at these people's stupi.dity because he knows the importance of distributors to his business. Ok i remember u called them conehead.

These haters and their foolish reasoning. Na wa for them.

Good question.

But before you ask why the richest man in Africa is not investing in the Southeast region, you must first ask why southeastern people are not investing in their own region. When you get the answer to that question, you will automatically know the answer to your Dangote question.
This can pass for the best response ever received on nairaland from inception.

Even I could remember when Otedola was fighting him because he was using his connections to avoid competition by taking people's businesses away through government directives

The politics of import license comes to mind. This guy benefitted heavily from that. At a point almost monopolising the import/supply of rice to hundreds of millions of Nigerians. And they tout him as some kind of model business guru. What is so inventive about this corrupt process, apart from the sadistic debauchery that motivated the policy makers to tow this line of action?

CapitalOil is currently constructing a 250bpd refinery and so is Dangote who is constructing a whooping 400bpd refinery coupled with v viable petrochemical plant all in the.............................................LEKKI FREE TRADE ZONE.
