As far Nigeria is concerned, almost all these first class students were professional crammers in school.

Not beefing them though because I also tried to cram my way to first class only to get 4.35 as final GP.

Hard work pays because cramming is really hard work

congratulations to all of them.

170m Nigerians with a geometrical no. of ethnic groups? We have to share things to the best of our ability for fairness to prevail, there exists a balance of equality and competence for your info. The criteria for pressid is a 1st class degree and its not too hard to find in any part of Nigeria.
There are thousands of first class graduates in the country, they have to go through a series of tests to select the best 100 from the thousands.
Those you saw there are the best 100 of the first class graduates that applied.
Hope you understand now?
Your poor reasoning already shows why northern names are few there.
Did you expect all the first class graduates in the country to be in a list of 100?

No Calabar/Akwa Ibom name in the list? And to think Northerners still filled the list even after betraying Mr. President?

Do you see a single northern name there?

Why is it that 60% of the people that passed and qualified for scholarship in list are Igbos?

..and other 5 regions sharing paltry 40%?

This list is a 'fraud' wink

Liar. Which 60% Count them and let me know? Your arithmetic must be poor

The Presidential Special Scholarship Scheme for Innovation and Development has recommended 102 persons for President Goodluck Jonathan’s approval for the award of foreign scholarships for the 2015/2016 academic session.

This is contained in an update on the scheme as presented by its panel Chairman, Prof. Julius Okojie, during a closed-door session with Jonathan at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Monday.

Our correspondent exclusively obtained a copy of the document.

According to the document, the 102 comprise 78 males and 24 females.

Okojie explained that the successful candidates were from the 2,840 applications and out of the 940 persons shortlisted for an aptitude test, which took place last December 8.

He recalled that in the first edition, which was for the 2012/2013 session, scholarships were awarded to 101 scholars, comprising 81 males and 20 females, including one physically challenged beneficiary.

He stated that the authorities released N1.7bn to the National Universities Commission to fund the scheme for that session.

This, he explained, comprised N1.09bn from the Petroleum Development Trust Fund and N602.4m from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund.

He put the total disbursement so far for that edition at N1.3bn.

He added that for the second edition, which was for 2013/2014 session, 104 persons, comprising 76 males and 28 females, enjoyed the scholarship.

The scheme instituted in 2012 Jonathan is part of the Federal Government’s efforts towards achieving the goals of Vision 20:2020 and the Transformation Agenda.

The beneficiaries of the scheme, our correspondent gathered, would serve as catalysts of change and agents of scientific and technological advancement.

This exercise is one sided and politicized. Are Nigerians only in the south? We will call on the new government to look into this partial scholarship scheme.

FOR ALMOST 3 OR 4 YEARS NOW THE HAUSA-FULANI AND OTHER NORTHERN ETHNIC GROUPS HAVE BEEN CONSPICUOUSLY ABSENT ON THIS PRESSID LIST, FOR FAIRNESS WHY DONT ALL STATES PROVIDE 2 CANDIDATES? NO SHAKING THOUGH WERE BACK IN POWER SO THIS IS THE LAST TIME WELL SEE A TRIBALISTIC AND PARTISAN LIST. GMB BE REST ASSURED WILL GIVE ALL CORNERS WHAT IS DUE.

This is exclusively based on merit. There is the PTDF scholarship which caters for fairness and all that. Note that nobody from Bayelsa state won it last year and I don't think it changed this year.

I was supposed to apply for this scholarship, but i was busy helping my reaction engineering lecturer with his PHD research that i completly forgot about it, and it still pains me till date.
My younger sister, a physics genius in her own right , applied, wrote the aptitude test ,and passed.
Her name is right up there.
She is going to major in nuclear physics abroad.

Ignorance is really a terminal disease.

Those names are Muslim names from the SW. And not every Nigerian Muslim is a northerner.

It baffles me how scholarships are awarded in this country of ours...
I have gone through and through this list and wasn't able to find any name from the middle belt...hmmmm!

I hope this list of so called first class candidates does not involve those who bagged theirs from all those private universities through settlement packages (didn't mention any name o).
There are several names from the middle belt; Kogi and Kwara e.g Onimisi

I think there are one or two issues on which Yoruba and Eboes need to unite and this is one of them
This programme must NOT be ditched in the name of "federal character"

The Person in the photo with Buhari is Dr Ahmed Adamu he has called for the programmed to be scrapped
http://www.punchng.com/politics/scrap-n100bn-foreign-scholarships/

and now some youths are calling for him to be made minister

Why is it that 60% of the people that passed and qualified for scholarship in list are Igbos?

..and other 5 regions sharing paltry 40%?

This list is a 'fraud' wink
How did you get 60%? Trouble maker

80% of list was selected through slots given to ministers, senators, governors & 20% made it by merit...
There should be more northerners in the list because they have
more senators
more ministers
and more governors

There are thousands of first class graduates in the country, they have to go through a series of tests to select the best 100 from the thousands.
Those you saw there are the best 100 of the first class graduates that applied.
Hope you understand now?
Your poor reasoning already shows why northern names are few there.
Did you expect all the first class graduates in the country to be in a list of 100?

All of your likes that talk of the North do NOT know the North, most have never been there but comfortably sit behind a keyboard and talk rubbish like yourself.

Even if Federal character is pushed aside and whatever criteria is deployed in a selection process, the north will have ample representation. The population is superior to all other geographical zones, regardless of poverty and almajiris that wonder about, a decent portion can challenge on an international level talk less of national.

This stereotype of ignorance in the North and intelligence in the South which you promote says alot about how poorly wired you are my friend.

The PRESSID list is unacceptable and it stinks of foul play. Mark me next years list is going to be very very different.

As far Nigeria is concerned, almost all these first class students were professional crammers in school.

Not beefing them though because I also tried to cram my way to first class only to get 4.35 as final GP.

Hard work pays because cramming is really hard work
