Experts in the house, how best can i label a multi-storey network ports. Switches are placed on the middle floor of a 2 - storey (3 levels) building. Face plates are placed in the rooms of the building. i have 2 48-port switches. |
Re: Thread For Cisco Networking by persius555(m): 3:57pm On Dec 09, 2015 |
ptoall1000:let the numbers on the corresponding faceplate match with the numbers on the patch panel cable, if not you will have to label the patch panel ports yourself. If floor 1 face plate is F1A for example, let the labels on the terminated patch panel cable (RJ45) be F1A. The network ports on the switches attach to the ports on the panel. Because you have a 48port switch, you would have to label according to the ports on the panel. |

Re: Thread For Cisco Networking by ptoall1000: 6:07am On Dec 10, 2015 |
persius555:Thanks. That is exactly how they did it . They labelled the patch panel instead of switch it is now difficult to locate the ports on the switch. But what is the best practice for labelling? |
Re: Thread For Cisco Networking by persius555(m): 1:30pm On Dec 10, 2015 |
ptoall1000:ports on the switch cannot be labelled since carry port inscription. If the switch is enterprise like cisco, Dlink high end switch, juniper, novell, mikrotik etc they all have descrption capabilities that lets you label the ports in the terminal console. Ethernet port 1 can be inscribed as "decsription FA1" and so on. |
Re: Thread For Cisco Networking by ptoall1000: 3:46am On Dec 12, 2015 |
Ogas, is this IP address range valid? 192.169.1.0 255.255.255.0 |
Re: Thread For Cisco Networking by baba11(m): 7:54am On Dec 13, 2015 |
ptoall1000:This is a class C IP address . It has the subnet mask 255.255.255.0 and IP address range 192.168.0.0 to 192.168.255.255 192.168.255.255 is the broadcast of this range while 192.168.0.0 is the starting point of the class C address. As you might have known,we need to reserve the starting and ending IP address for resolving hosts, therefore, our first valid host is between 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.255.254. So with the subnet mask of 2^o=1,the address is invalid. |
Re: Thread For Cisco Networking by Fulaman198(m): 8:19am On Dec 13, 2015 |
ptoall1000: That isn't valid for a couple of reasons: 1. That IP address range is for public IP address assignments only. 2. The specified IP address is a network address Typically speaking for internal private LANs, you want to use 192.168.X.X or 172.16.X.X or 10.X.X.X Let me know if you need further clarification |
Re: Thread For Cisco Networking by NoriegaQ(m): 10:04am On Dec 13, 2015 |
Fulaman198: If he wants to know if the address range is valid then yes, it definitely is. 1) It is a valid class C network address for routing on the internet 2) The address range would be between 192.169.1.1 to 192.169.1.254 since it's a 24 mask. 3) The valid range for private class B networks is 172.16.X.X to 172.30.X.X 4) In conclusion I think it just depends on what he needs an internet routable address range for + if he was assigned that address block by his ISP. CHEERS. |
Re: Thread For Cisco Networking by baba11(m): 2:55pm On Dec 13, 2015 |
NoriegaQ:It's definitely 172.31.X.X not 30. I sent you a pm maybe I'll get some videos from you,sir |

Re: Thread For Cisco Networking by Fulaman198(m): 4:26pm On Dec 13, 2015 |
NoriegaQ: I believe he was referring to it being a valid host address, in which it is not. It's just a network address. Your host range is correct. In addition, the 192.169.X.X IP address range is reserved for public IP addressing and not private IP addressing. Cheers |
Re: Thread For Cisco Networking by Fulaman198(m): 4:26pm On Dec 13, 2015 |
Folarinibrahim1: I did, let me know if you need anything else |
Re: Thread For Cisco Networking by NoriegaQ(m): 6:43pm On Dec 13, 2015 |
Fulaman198: Exactly. Public IP address = Internet routable address |
Re: Thread For Cisco Networking by NoriegaQ(m): 6:51pm On Dec 13, 2015 |
baba11: Got your pm bro, funny enough I didn't practice with videos. There are some CCNA preps Android apps I used though, could direct you to get those. Videos are extremely good learning tools and I'd advice you get them if you can, but if not double up on your Lammle and PT, you'll be good. Also look for other online CCNA blogs and forums like this one , there's so much practical knowledge to learn off them. My favourite is still packetlife.net. Good to see you are on the right path bro, keep up the hard work. Regards. |

Re: Thread For Cisco Networking by DonTim1: 6:15pm On Jan 14, 2016 |
Seems the thread is dead, @fullaman good job Quick suggestion, why not we make this thread a "how to" or 'post your problems here " then another thread could be opened where selected professionals / volunteers could treat cisco topics chapter by chapter, learners could then ask questions in the how to thread only in the chapter currently being discussed. PS: there was a very in depth thread for Cisco networking professionals, I believe it's still here. |

Hi everyone, I'm so happy to find this thread here because I've been having some issues as regards computer networking. By the grace of God I would be joining the next batch for NYSC and I have planned to actually serve in a place where I can gain some working experience in computer networking. Can you guys recommend a place for me, I would really appreciate it. Thanks as you do so. |
