Nigerian John Legend singer and renowned horse rider 9ice – says he has no problems with criticism from fans who slammed him for losing his voice.

Speaking in a recent TV interview, the faded music star blamed his loss of voice on the absence of “good music equipment” in Nigeria.

He said:

Get it right; in 2008, 2009 and 2010, imagine someone screaming for three years, how e no go lose him voice?

Most of our productions are not good and most of our speakers are not good. Hear me, I am not saying the DJs or the sound managers are not good. But the equipment we have (in Nigeria) are not good.

So imagine me (singing) on top of my voice for three years. How I no go lose my voice?

In 2008, I was maybe 28 or 29 and now I am 35 years old. So I would definitely lose my voice and now I am a more mature person. So criticism based on those aspects, I am sure they are right. But you have to take me as I am.

9ice also talked about why he chose to venture into politics.

Some musicians don't do voice training. It's very important. I don't know if we have professional voice trainers in 9ja.

As angelic as Whitney Houston's voice was, she still did voice training. Virtually all Opera singers do it. Even some actors do it.

That's a useless reason for losing his voice. Does this guy think all Nigerians are dumb? Most Nigerians may be st*upid but not all.

In fact, bad musical equipment will make you sing better because you'll work harder to make the bad equipment unnoticable with your voice!

Some musicians do lose their voices temporarily due to one reason or the other, while few lose theirs indefinitely.

Nice, if yours is indefinite, go look for another job.

9ice, you no try for this thing wey you talk o. KSA never lose voice, Obey still dey sing, Oliver de coque sing till he pai, Barry wonder voice no die leave am, even Shina omo Peteru still dey sing till now. Adewale Ayuba still has a good voice, Omo rapala still dey, Pasuma still dey sing. All these people wey I list, na "hello tue tue" equipment dem take start. Why you wey use "check one, two" equipment go come dey blame equipment for loss of voice? Even Dan Maraya wey no dey use mic sef no lose voice. I have always said that it is better to just keep quiet if one is not sure of what to say.
