I don't know why people react negatively to positive issues.

America visa used to be like that and today, it's costly.

America simply allowed foreigners to come and contribute to their development and it paid off. Now, even with a visa fee of 100k dollars, there will still be queues in their embassies and they will continue to deny people.

Any wise developing nation needs its borders open for awhile so we should stop being pessimistic about this undecided

While many Nigerians may have known visa fees of different European and American countries, not many take interest in what the country charges other nationals for the document.

But the fact is that the Nigerian Immigration Service has a long list of the fees on its website, indicating clearly the differences in terms of countries, the visa type and number of entries.

If what the NIS displays on the website is anything to go by, nationals of Mauritania, Monaco, Morroco, New Zealand, Panama, Uruguay, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Burma, Dominican, Chile and Colombia are charged between N100 and N 200 for a single-entry Nigerian visa. For those applying for multiple entries, the fee is multiplied by the number of entries they are seeking.

Weighed against the current exchange rate, it implies that a Nigerian visa is still going for half a dollar or a little above that.

Applicants from the United States are charged the highest. They pay N14,000 for either a single or multiple-entry visa.

Russia and other former members of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics are next to the US, and a visa application from the region attracts N10,500.

A traveller from the United Kingdom, who is applying for a single-entry Nigerian visa, pays N9,700, whereas a multiple-visa applicant is charged N16,200.

Interestingly, UK nationals picking up temporary employment in Nigeria pay N9,700, which is less than what their multiple-visa counterparts are charged.

A British woman married to a Nigerian has the option of obtaining an “indefinite” visa at N40,800, according to the NIS’s fee schedule.

Most European countries, such as Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Romania, Belgium and Spain, pay a little above N6,000 for a single-visa application. Multiple-entry visa application fee in most of the listed countries is N9,000 plus.

Based on the fact that the immigration service deals with many people in different parts of the world, it is expected that the facts presented on its website are valid as this is a major platform where potential visitors to Nigeria can access it.

Many Nigerian establishments have, however, yet to embrace online operation as an essential part of their corporate integrity. Hence, what such organisations, especially federal ministries, departments and agencies, tag new information are, in some cases, one or more years stale.

Even the NIS is not free from the practice, which visitors find worrisome. For instance, what the Service calls “news”, as of Sunday, is a notice of a recruitment exercise examination that was to be held on March 15, 2014 in the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory.

Also, a document by the Service says it has in the past 10 years cancelled no fewer than 1,288 passports.

But an Internet search by our correspondent shows that the list has not been upgraded since August 2013 when it was uploaded despite a promise that it would be “updated regularly.” This is apart from the fact no reason is given for the cancelation. This, indeed, leaves visitors in the dark as to the number of the ‘green-back’ that have been cancelled in the past two years.

An online document obtained from the NIS portal on Sunday also says it started compiling the list in 2005. There is nothing anywhere on the site to show the updated status of the two-year-old document.

OP for UK you are slightly wrong
The cost of Visa to Nigerian from UK is

£70 for visa turn around in one day or £20 pounds for 5 days
plus £72 OIS fee and also the cost of the postal order .

so convert to Naira using exchange rate let say 300 Naira to the pound
we are talking minimum payment for visa is (assuming postal order is 10 pounds)
is 30,600 Naira minimum for 5 day service or 45,600 for one day service.

That is why most Nigerians with British passports have now obtained Nigerian Passports which are cheap for about $60.

.Remember all visas are now processed by OIS

Chai!!! This made me remember my Business maths lecturer who oneday told us about his conversion with a chiness man whom was one of the workers of a construction company working on the school compound. He approached him and asked him this question; How can you compare our school with your schools in China?. He said that the chiness man whose english was very bad replied him that,' over there in China, we dont think of comparing our schools with schools here in Nigeria. We compare our schools with schools in countries like US, UK and other well developed countries'. The Chiness man then futher said,' if not for the signpost that is at the entrance of the gate that has the name of the school on it, we wont have known that this place is a school, and that assuming the signpost is removed, the gate of the school is just opened without any hindrance, "going by the length and breath of the school, it is nothing but a farm settlement" Na so we just use our two hands grab our head, we con shout, ' yeee!!! So to u, 6yrs of GEJ rule out of 55yrs of Nigeria's existence is what brought Nigeria to these level of under development, infrastructural decay, high rate of unemployment, lack of electricity and the economic breakdown of our country. Did u forget Obasanjo, Shagari, ur Buhari, babangida, abacha, and obasanjo! Now, 39 yrs of mis ruling this country is what u expected GEJ to fix in 6 yrs. I'm kinda lost & want to ask this honest question, all the peeps saying "I can't wait for Buhari to come do this & that" even to the most trivial stuffs, are they for real?
Better if the answer is ŊO̶̷̩̥̊͡, but if yes... I'm afraid they are the jokers of all time & may never experience the least in change, so sorry to say. Becauuse it baffles me to hear someone saying Buhari will change even things that is within the reach of the person to change in his/her household or immediate environment.
A lot of people just heard the change slogan & joined without giving it a second thought that yes change is possible but not without the creator's help.
Peeps let's make our expectations realistic so we don't get extreemly disappointed & let's accord our Almighty creator His place in all we desire for our lives & dear country so we won't end up putting the president-elect in the place of the Almighty thereby contending with Him as that may cause his (president-elect's) fall.

Last week, i needed to go to Eboyin state liason office in Lagos. Information on their website had the address at "1324 Bishop Oluwole street, Victoria Island".
I walked the whole street like "John Walker" looking for the aforementioned address. Not until some passers-by told me they've moved to "Housborne Estate, Obalende". (see suffering that day).

Nigerian ministries and agencies need to embrace the sine qua non of the internet.
