Go to Japan at your own risk, that place is a radiated nuclear wasteland since the 2011 Fukushima nuclear disaster which is still spewing radiation in the air and ocean ever since, and for a thousand years to come. But the real information about the scale of the disaster is supressed to avoid panic.

While many Nigerians may have known visa fees of different European and American countries, not many take interest in what the country charges other nationals for the document.

But the fact is that the Nigerian Immigration Service has a long list of the fees on its website, indicating clearly the differences in terms of countries, the visa type and number of entries.

If what the NIS displays on the website is anything to go by, nationals of Mauritania, Monaco, Morroco, New Zealand, Panama, Uruguay, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Burma, Dominican, Chile and Colombia are charged between N100 and N 200 for a single-entry Nigerian visa. For those applying for multiple entries, the fee is multiplied by the number of entries they are seeking.

Weighed against the current exchange rate, it implies that a Nigerian visa is still going for half a dollar or a little above that.

Applicants from the United States are charged the highest. They pay N14,000 for either a single or multiple-entry visa.

Russia and other former members of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics are next to the US, and a visa application from the region attracts N10,500.

A traveller from the United Kingdom, who is applying for a single-entry Nigerian visa, pays N9,700, whereas a multiple-visa applicant is charged N16,200.

Interestingly, UK nationals picking up temporary employment in Nigeria pay N9,700, which is less than what their multiple-visa counterparts are charged.

A British woman married to a Nigerian has the option of obtaining an “indefinite” visa at N40,800, according to the NIS’s fee schedule.

Most European countries, such as Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Romania, Belgium and Spain, pay a little above N6,000 for a single-visa application. Multiple-entry visa application fee in most of the listed countries is N9,000 plus.

Based on the fact that the immigration service deals with many people in different parts of the world, it is expected that the facts presented on its website are valid as this is a major platform where potential visitors to Nigeria can access it.

Many Nigerian establishments have, however, yet to embrace online operation as an essential part of their corporate integrity. Hence, what such organisations, especially federal ministries, departments and agencies, tag new information are, in some cases, one or more years stale.

Even the NIS is not free from the practice, which visitors find worrisome. For instance, what the Service calls “news”, as of Sunday, is a notice of a recruitment exercise examination that was to be held on March 15, 2014 in the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory.

Also, a document by the Service says it has in the past 10 years cancelled no fewer than 1,288 passports.

But an Internet search by our correspondent shows that the list has not been upgraded since August 2013 when it was uploaded despite a promise that it would be “updated regularly.” This is apart from the fact no reason is given for the cancelation. This, indeed, leaves visitors in the dark as to the number of the ‘green-back’ that have been cancelled in the past two years.

An online document obtained from the NIS portal on Sunday also says it started compiling the list in 2005. There is nothing anywhere on the site to show the updated status of the two-year-old document.

Good leaders alone cannot make much difference. But with Good Leaders and Good Citizens, a Transformational Change sweeps every sector and can make a country to belong in the first world country within a decade.
Nigeria have Leadership as well as Citizen problem. There is need for a paradigm shift in the perspective of the masses and remodeling of the leadership structures and systems of this country.
A new system & kind of government such as regionalism, true federalism, full resource control, confederacy e.t.c doesn't hurt either. Something gotta give

I hope you stop calling Nigerians backward. What do you gain from calling people mentally backward ?. The difference between the Western World and the Third World to me is simply leadership. Good leaders are needed for the country to move forward. Name calling doesn't do any one any good.

I will be glad if we didn't enter #one chance# motor driving by Buhari! I will be glad if we are taken to our dream land and make GeJ a fool for not performing even though, he was sabotaged with northern brain child(boko haram). Let Buhari bring the changes he promised and we shall trek to Otuoke to whip GEJ. But, to start now to give excuses is not what we want to listen. Most of this people commenting here do not have international expose. The countries listed that are N200 for visa are countries with strong diplomatic ties with Nigeria and some of them are free Visa to Nigerians. Nigeria is just charging for the cost of printing so according to Nigerian Immigration law no country is visa free to Nigeria expect West Africa countries which practically we are using the same passport. Stop saying Nigeria is cheap and GMB will perform magic there are laws in Nigeria which the president will never be able to touch.
Learn before you comment.

Who are those saying Nigerian visa is easy to get? Lol!

I have a friend who has been denied Nigerian Visa since last two years. He has even stopped trying. I used to think it was very easy too. They said he hasn't satisfied them as to the purpose of his visit. Visit forums where they offer advice on what to say as purpose of visit when applying for a Nigerian Visa. Apparently if you say business, there is an 80% chance you will be refused.

Don't mind them.

Why not look at it logically, US and UK visa are so expensive and yet queues for visa not only from nigeria but many other countries, and yet Nigerian visa so cheap and no queue and you are talking able increasing the price. Ever heard of demand and supply?

Getting a Nigerian visa is actually hard, but it's due more to the inefficient system and people which frustrates you rather than because there is huge demand for it.

Even as a Nigerian Renewing my passport in Nigeria housd in London is a frustrating annoying task.

couldn't agree with you more...people on here just comment without proper knowledge of what they saying...that's how someone in one thread claimed oxygen tanks work with electricity...phewwww..
.

Those fees are inaccurate:

I visit 9ja with European friends. Multiple visa depending on European nationality is up to $260. Then comes £20 embassy processing fee.

The anomaly of issuing a Visa in UK and putting visa fees in dollars shocked

Many Arab countries pay very little fees.

Black diaspora countries like Jamaica, T & T pay little or nothing, naturally to encourage tracing their African roots.

Germans, French far less than British, Irish, USA & Canadians.

Now, the anglophones who are more likely to consider visiting Nigeria for leisure have to pay more, why? Are really serious about tourism?

I fly to Morocco, Tunisia visa free with European passport. The Visa fee for 9ja visa alone buys you a ticket to Marrakech, Fez, Cassa in Morocco. So where do you think the average European would prefer to visit on holiday? Even before considering our security challenges, no light, expensive yet poor quality hotels.

All this gragra about raising visa fees, when nobody buys oil anymore our eyes go clear. Serious developing countries like Kenya, Uganda, even Ghana & Benin Republic have simplified visa regime and cost to encourage tourists from high income/strong currency countries.

Nigeria is still sleeping and beating chest because of oil.

Punch Newspaper is writing nonsense as usual,Nigeria Visa is not that cheap,i always apply for a visa to come to Nigeria and the fees goes like this,(First i apply online Paying 120 Dollars to NIS and later payed 50euro at the Nigeria embassy before the Visa is issued.

Nigeria Newspaper are always very lazy to verified News before writing them.

Good leaders makes a lot of difference. The buck stop at the leadership. The leaders are the trailblazers. Nigerians are overwhelmingly good and honest people that have to deal with corrupt and inept leaders for several decades. That will have effects on people psychologically. Americans are not the easiest people either but the leadership is what makes America what she is today. When Nigeria leaderships rise up to the occassion, I believe the overwhelming good and honorable people of Nigeria will follow the trail. My point of disagreement with Mr Knowitall was him calling Nigerians mentally backward people. That's uncalled for.
